How I Cleaned Aluminum Foil Off the Bottom of My Oven
Praying the Gospels with Martin Luther.wmv

Amazon link: amzn.to/2kBX3o1 If Martin Luther preached today what he preached in the sixteenth century, there would be another Reformation: Love is to be the interpreter of law. Paul Meier has written prayers based on Luther's sermons of the Church Postils to revive these teachings in a form that makes them accessible to all.
This taking too long to see progress.
They say not to use the heavy duty Easy Off (the lye containing version) on aluminum because it damages aluminum. But that is EXACTLY what you want in this case. You want the aluminum eaten away. Just keep in mind that it produces hydrogen in the process.
The Easy Off can instructions say never spray in a heated oven. Let it cool down. Of course, it doesn't work if sprayed on cold, but I was terrified of having fire shoot back into my face.
8:20 let Oven Off set for 24 hrs 9:00 Take a spatula from Dollar Tree and scrape off 13:02 2nd Easy Off Round. 8 hrs 16:45 blade from box cutter. Scrape gently. Will take some time.
Did you see this: ua-cam.com/video/rV4amDmEnDk/v-deo.htmlsi=UY4w0lWIyZ2Vfzb3. And I’ve been wondering why my new airfryer/toaster oven says NOT to use foil on the bottom crumb tray - due to overheating? Must be so?
Cheap jar of tomato sauce will eat the aluminum off. Pour it on and leave it alone for a couple of days.
Finally with my people. I'm a dumbass and ended up here too. Lol thanks for the hope
Did any of you have a melting plastic or chemical smell before you used the easy off?
LOL, the COVID mask isn't going to protect you from the fumes.
why dont you just replace the bottom pan????
I will be starting this process tonight. Thanks for the excellent video. Ordered my silicone oven mat also.
Easy off worked… thank you for researching!!!
Thanks for your effort to demo this process. It looks better without the melted aluminum, but unfortunately future food spills will be much more difficult to remove since you removed the protective bottom pan enamel or porcelain coating with which the aluminum had fused. I would closely monitor and be very hesitant to use the self cleaning function if so equipped. I've read online comments from a number of appliance dealers advising people against using self clean due to extreme heat resulting in premature failure rates. And your pan is no longer fully protected with a contiguous coating. In your case I would just replace the bottom plate with a new one. Easy and affordable fix to like new condition. My whirlpool dbl oven unfortunately does not have replacable bottoms so I will be testing cook cycles after cleaning with easy off and plastic putty scraper only. If i don't like the results, out goes the entire $1,500 unit. Big ouch in that case 😬
I repaired ovens for Sears for 35 years. Using the selfcleaning cycle DOES NOT result in early failure. The oven is designed to be that hot and is built for it. Selfcleaning is a feature that you paid extra for and you can certainly use it. Read the instructions-remove the racks, open windows and doors to ventilate the area, wipe up the ash left on the surfaces. BTW the porcelain oven floor surfaces cracks because of the extreme heat trapped between the floor and the foil. The porcelain has already been irreparably damaged before you scrub it or scrape with a razor blade.
@@gregoryrice7685 I did this & feel really stupid. However, I think with my GE wall oven I can replace the bottom which I'm waiting to hear back from the repair guy after the holiday weekend. I did manage to get most of the foil off but there are areas that look like his above after the easy off where I'm thinking the foil fused with the bottom. Is it safe to use the oven if it looks like it does above? I'm reading there can be toxic fumes. If I can't replace the bottom I'm thinking I'll have to get a new oven.
I am just buying the part easy to install under 100.00
The problem is that you take off aluminum and you damaged the finish of a self cleaning oven
My appliance guy came and saw mine, said I was never supposed to put foil on there, and it was actually fiberglass that was going to get in my food because I scraped like you did he said never use that happen again
It looks like the T-1000 had an intimate relationship with your oven
Had my brand new stove an entire 5 hours and did the same thing! Neither me nor my daughter noticed the big bold words that said DO NOT PUT FOIL ON BOTTOM! Caught 75% of the foil before it stuck. When it cools down, I’ll try to get the rest……
WHere did you see the warning? Was it on the stove? I think they should have warnings on the foil box and the STOVE.
@@amylambert2365 it was not n the front base inside of the oven. You wouldn’t see it unless you look straight down as soon as you open the door.
@@amylambert2365 I just did the same thing to a brand new stove in a brand new rental. It says, 'Do not use foil on bottom', but not in a way that you would ever see it unless you were looking for it! I can't believe Frigidaire would not make the letters stand out from the rest of the oven bottom (or any manufacturer for that matter). I've ALWAYS put foil on bottom of oven to protect. Ugh.
So sorry that happened. I can't use the oven because enamel is still peeling off. I called Bosch and they told me not to use it. Seems they should have clear warnings on the stove. I bought the oven in 2017 and I don't even normally buy aluminum foil - bought some this summer, 2023 and used a sheet on the bottom. DId not even see damage until the sheet was pulled away. CHIPPED - totally chipped in areas. The Bosch tech said that sounded right - you may not even see the damage until you pull foil away. The foil looked normal but underneath it ruined the oven. I wonder how much of the enamel we ingested in our food! Pathetic that they don't offer more warnings - the warning in the maunual is in the SAFETY section. I may have read it but for many years - I have not even bought aluminum foil. I did imagine how difficult it must be if you have a renter - they may not know and hard to trust they will heed warning. Sorry that happened to you too. @@fitnavygirl1
I just can’t get mine totally removed! I’ve tried everything except the oven cleaner. Guess that will be next.
Thanks
One word - EDITING.
Only problem is that will cause toxic fumes
Same thing happened to me!!! I gave up and just cover it with the sheet pan I should have used from the beginning 😩😩😩
Is yours an electric stove, because mine is, and the heating element is right under that area. If I knew how to pay attention and read, I would have seen that it says on the bottom of my oven to NOT use aluminum foil on the bottom.😮
YOU are lucky. THat should be on all ovens. I had NO idea. 6 years later - after it ruined my oven, I see it in the manual.
I don't agree to use a metal scrapper to scrape the bottom of the oven as it will leave scratches.
If you watched at least thirty seconds of the video, you'd see I used a non-metallic spatula.
Did that Easy Off take the coating off the bottom of your oven though? I had 2 cans of Easy Off..one with no fumes that said it took a minimum of an hour for the spray to work and the other can was the extra strength. Both cans had instructions that said NOT to use on aluminum. 🥴
I don't remember if my can of Easy Off said not to use it on aluminum. Maybe that's why the aluminum foil finally came off. If you look at the end of the video, you will see how clean I was able to get it. And I have had no trouble with the oven bottom. Also the video shows that I had to let the Easy Off soak overnight about four times, scraping with a razor after every time.
Looks like the entire finish is gone, gone, gone!
I was amazed that when you got to the shiny silver layer that you saw that as aluminum foil. I was worried it was part of the oven structure. You are lucky - mine has terribly rusty chips and I have enamel metal dust that seems to never end each time I clean and then turn on the convection fan. New dust. Can't use oven safely.@@pwmeier
I've always lined my ovens with heavy duty aluminum foil and Never had this happen until I recently bought a new oven. Luckily it only stuck in a couple of small places. Thank you for the Easy Off tip!
Exact same with me!
My Bosch manual says do not use easy off but they do make easy off product that says safe for self cleaning ovens. Just a heads up though. I checked my manual from a 2017 purchase and it says do not use aluminum foil but I don't recall having read that...I used to NEVER use it for years so it would of easily been lost in translation! Stupid loss. Probably will have to replace with another Bosch so it matches my kitchen appliance investment. Glad you were able to get yours removed.
Same here!
New ovens are notorious for this and I didn’t know since I had always used aluminum and now have the same mess ! I won’t use a razor but several coats of oven cleaner until clean and ordered my oven silicone mat.
We lined our oven for 35 yrs in our old home without any problem. We have a New home , we did this and our brand new oven and the oven surface is ruined.
Three weeks after we moved into our new home I did this with both ovens 😩😩😩
They should have clear warnings to the public. I had no idea. RUined an expensive Bosch oven. All chipped and micro enamel dust particles keep appearing. Can't use the oven.
thanks
😮 😍 wow your oven is clean - glad you got the foil up
Suggestion: Remove bottom by taking out 2 screws in back. Take pan to garage, put down cardboard and bottom pan on top. Spray and scrape. Use cushion under your knees. Clean and re-install in oven. Less fumes.
Or...Easy Off comes in a toxic fume free can as well
@@susidefour5257strips the enamel off. Replacement is only $84.
These would be helpful to comment what actually worked so we don’t have to watch the whole exhilarating 20 min…
Wow. Pout much?
Oh Gosh!!! Thank you. I did this same thing to my brand new oven and have pouted ever since.
I think there should be warnings on ovens and also - the aluminum foil box. I had no idea. Ruined my Bosch oven.
Ughh this is terrible we have to even goggle something like this!! I bought a brand new house, brand new stove was just like this! Have know idea who did it but Ughh! Been at it for a month doing exactly what you are doing! Thanks for not making me feel crazy!
Do you think it's safe again to use the self cleaning function of the oven after scraping all the foil off?
I know how well I cleaned the aluminum foil off my oven so I would be comfortable with my oven in using the self-clean feature. I'd probably stay out of the room and then air it out the first time I did it. I also suggest asking an appliance person to get a professional opinion.
NO. Not safe to use - toxic for animals and humans - releases chemical fumes. Bad for your oven too.
I am not able to use oven cleaner due to my lung diseases. I am not able to use anything sharp as I take blood thinners. Would appreciate what may work for me.
Have someone do it for you
Contact manufacturer. Buy new bottom tray. Remove damaged one and replace. Never put foil in the bottom of the oven again.
Tomato sauce eats aluminum.
Thanks!
Can't hear
I’m in the same situation because I misread the pizza box instructions too 😭 whyyyyyy
😭 why did I put foil down 😭
I just put foil down last night I'm in tears did not know this would happen and it seem to much work to clean it smh
To save time cleaning later. I did the same. Now spending my “saved time” to figure out how to remove it😭
My oven has a heating element over the bottom. Aluminum foil will not melt😄
You can always order a new bottom for your oven, approximately $147.00!!
Where to order from?
This happened to me also… I will try some of your techniques!! Thanks for the easy off idea!
Mike, did you try using the self-clean feature? Did you cook in the oven at all after the foil stuck? I have the same problem so just doing more research. I may just buy a new stove bottom for around $110
For all the work it takes, it might be worth $110 - if it doesn't take as long to replace the heating element.
Same thing happened on my end. I did try the self clean feature. It didn’t help. I didn’t know a replacement bottom was an option. I will look into it.
The self clean feature will bake it on even more. And inevitably make it more difficult to scrape out.

Thank you! You saved me hundreds of dollars in replacing the stove / heating element.
The bottom replacement plate was $84 on Amazon.
Pastor Paul, your book is a faithful and helpful application of Scripture and Luther, in truth "afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted." Thank you!
this is wonderful--I'm getting ready to review your book; Christ Is Risen, alleluia!
