I'll confess that I cheated on all my check rides (I had a friend fly all my ILS approaches, formation flights, ELPs, etc). It's a wonder I never got caught! I think one of my IPs was suspicious though because I'm white and my friend is black.

Sadly these Air Force leaders demonstrate why no one wants to stay after 10 years First off - no your not an officer first your a pilot - a good officer and a bad pilot can equal death and frankly your enemy wants you to be a great officer and a horrible pilot so this colonel has it backwards - like most of the current military leadership Second - Jesus F could they make it a bit more inspiring ? Like how about - sign up and do your best and there is a 90% chance if you try your best your gonna get wings And then you will have an exciting career - until you make O3 and then it all goes to shit with desk jobs and the needs of the Air Force which don’t care about your family needs That aside here is the real deal - join the guard or reserves look for a unit that is hiring and hit them up first Active duty sucks and is like being in prison but you get let out an hour a day to fly If you have any questions about UPT or think you want to join the Air Force Email me Sweinstein42@gmail

so, in other words, this guy is like the Tom Cruise's character in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, where an older pilot, in for 3 decades, is STILL teaching trainees. So it IS a plausible plotline as to why, after @ 35 years in service, Pete Mitchell could be "only" a Captain (officer level O-6) in the Navy, when Kervin Waterman is a Lt. Colonel (O-5) in the Air Force.. hmm.

Swervin had a 33 year flying career in the USAF. I had a buddy named CWO5 Steve Hubbard who had a 45 year career flying in the US Army Reserves. I served as a Major in the active duty USAF and respect Swervin for making Ltc. as an active duty USAF officer Major and then making Ltc. in the Reserves.

When all you do is fly airplanes, it is extremely difficult to get promoted. Remember that there are LT's and Captains who can also fly airplanes. Promotion to Colonel or General takes a lot more then flying airplanes. You have to attend SOS, ACSC, and AWC in addition to holding down many extra responsibilities in the Command structure.
