Elisabeth das Musical full show, English & German subtitles, Essen 02, Pia Douwes' last performance
Elisabeth: Pia Douwes
Der Tod: Uwe Kröger
Lucheni: Carston Lepper
Franz Joseph: Andre Bauer
Rudolph: Jesper Tyden
- The german's there because it is a lot easier to do german first and then translate, it always confused me why english subtitles tend not to have subtitles of the original language.
- English isn't completely checked for typos etc yet but wow that took forever I'm not looking at it again for a while. (I did get round to fixing the big gap in the wedding scene and some stuff though, and the translation itself should be fine)

Bei 2:11:19: Mach die Nacht zum Morgen... Viel höher kann man nicht singen oder? Ich könnte mir das 100 x hintereinander anhören.
Add Darren Wang The Wolf to the list
In my Elisabeth era, am I late? 😭
Bro me too😂😭
I discovered this video a few months back and have fallen in love with this musical since then. I would’ve only been a year old when this performance originally took place. Wish I could go back in time and watch this live ( tho I would need to learn german first ). Which this musical has inspired me to learn since I know theirs no english version of Elisabeth unfortunately.

Ich mag Jesper Tydén als Rudolf sehr.
looks like there was a little "Plan B" staging during "Ich Gehor Nur Mir" the bridge/slope (whatever it's called) looks like it didn't come down,
At the end of Uwe's Der Letzte Tanz, he reaches for Elisabeth with single-minded focus, like the manifestation of her depression and suicidality that he is, grasping at her even as she tries to repel it. In the newer versions he's doing weird moves like he's Rod Stewart commanding an invisible rock band. It's so goofy and misses the entire point of the character and story, just to cater to audiences that want to see a generic "sexy forbidden mystery man". Elisabeth will never again be what it was from 1992-2002.
Her english rendition of I Belong To Me is gorgeous <3
Does *ANYONE* have a rpugh idea of when the high note at the end of "Ich Gehur Nur Mir" was introduced?
the best version imo
2:12:10 OMG!!! THIS HUG IS SO DIFFERENT
Elisabeth.
Sehr ergreifend!
40:02-43:52 = *WOW*

Immernoch unglaublich!!!
I saw the original in Vienna Austria 3 months after it opened in Jan of 93. At the time I spoke very little German, but was fully moved by the performance. Fortunately I purchased the cd at the time and have listened to it many times over the years. I now speak German and look forward to seeing the show once again.
Pia Douwes is sooooooo cuuuuuuute exactly like a innocent little girl at the beginning!
i don't know who did the set design but hats off to them! it looks incredible <3
my jaw dropped at 1:56:34 i'll forever be impressed by Uwe's strength
Saw the same production back then in Stuttgart and I have to say it's the best production of Elisabeth I've ever seen! great stage technology, especially in the scene "on deck of the sinking world" when the stage turned and lifted... super cool!! Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to experience uwe as Death in Stuttgart, but Pia as Elisabeth!!! it was just gorgeous!! it is my absolute favorite musical!!!

As for the subtitles, thank you for having them in the Original language! Subsequent languages are soooo much easier to do after the original, not only because getting the text there to translate from is helpful (which it is, immensely so, I feel that) but also hecause all the timestamps are there and one just has to do that translation after. Also, anyone know who played Young Rudolph? His voice gives me chills with its innocence
her hair at the end truly magnificent
Pia is hand down the best Elisabeth ever! The little details she puts into the performance are a treat to watch. Her voice is just right, not too high and pitchy but also not too dark, it's just right, and sound convincing enough as both young and old Elisabeth. And her acting as young Sisi is so adorable! I notice she tries to make her voice sound younger for the young Sisi scenes too, the dedication... And her older Sisi is also perfect, not overly melancholy and weepy or outright cranky, but bitter and exhausted in a very subtle way. Overall Pia's older Elisabeth thrives in subtlety, which I find to be a lot more fitting and enjoyable than some other actresses whose acting are too obvious and kitschy.
I *WISH* we could get this show over here in the USA, but, with the whole "Rebecca" disaster, I doubt it will *EVER* happen.
Thank you so much for this! The English subtitle is amazing and the german subtitle helps too. Hats off to you for making the subs <3
I love the 2002 production, big crinolines, big hair, big voices, my gay heart reaches extasy.

Uwe was so...odd? It was too much. They were trying too hard because it was her last performance. Pia was shouting more than usual. More isn't always better ;) But it was very good all in all.
💖Danke💖 Danke💖 Danke💖 Danke💖
1:42:00 - Die Schatten werden länger. What an absolute banger of a song! Love it! (Also, very sensual sene between two amazing male actors/singers)
In the end, there is an extra version of Ich Gehor Nur Mir (I Belong To Me) sung by Pia in English and German! hadn't noticed this before!
Oh my god. I finally found it! Before, I couldn't find a video of Pia in Elizabeth. Is this video on a DVD? Or just this video left?
From what I've heard, it was shot by Pia's father semi-professionally for archival purposes and got leaked from there! But you can find it other places in the internet - there's the exact same video up on UA-cam just with Chinese subtitles that's been up since 2014
@@redjenny8652 Oh, that's happened! Thanks for answering. If so, it seems that where Pia was filmed there is no Elisabeth DVD and only live recording CDs have an official license... So sad.
@@왐왐-v8l There is a professionally filmed version with Pia and Uwe in the 1992 original Vienna production, also available on UA-cam.
Does anyone know where I can watch this in high quality with English subtitles?
there's a few dvds, and the 2005 one with Maya Hakvoort and Máté Kamarás definitely has English subtitles if that's what you're after! QueenCosette uploaded a subtitled version of that one on youtube in two acts, and I've found it on vimeo, but they're never that high quality but they are proper pro-shots. This is the highest quality version of this particular performance you're likely to find I'm afraid, as it's only semi-professional and from 2002.
If you want, Imdezembervorjarhen upscaled and color-corrected this 2002 video, it looks quite a lot better, but very unfortunately there's no commercially released proshot of this production. ua-cam.com/video/WHiZqM9MU8s/v-deo.html
I wish they had Eljen Erzebet in there, but it's still perfect 😍
I wouldn't be surprised if Death was actually (which would make for an unsurprising, yet fun and amusing plot twist) Sophie and Rudolf's father(and possibly Marie Valerie).
It's German
Wer spielt die Rolle von Sophie? Jederman in diesem Cast ist Perfekt. (Bitte verzeihen Sie mich.
Pia is still the one and only Elisabeth! 😍 Love her so much!
