Porsche GT3RS - Spa Francorchamps - 2:29.58
This is the lap coming from our latest tire comparison video between the Pirelli Trofeo RS and the Nankang CRS. If you haven't watched this, you are missing out some great info!
Few mistakes as this was near the end of the session and the tires were starting to slide a bit more.

Nankang CRS vs Michelin Cup 2N - Porsche GT3 992 Tire Test @ Spa Francorchamps
Переглядів 19 тис.7 місяців тому
Brace yourselves for a long yet very useful video! We finally manage to get our hands on the much anticipated tire from Nankang, the new CRS and we put it to the test against the best of the OEM fitment tires, the Michelin Cup 2N. For the simulation we are using our Porsche 992 GT3 as it currently is the only model from our fleet that has available OEM tire sizes. Our car is equipped with Girod...

Not the first 992 GT3 RS that I see losing control there? Is it better to keep throttle at 25% minimally to not upset the front of the car (due to weight transfer)?
Good time but a 991.2 GT3 has been round there in 2:30 on CUP2 R 😀
Seems like you needed more camber on the Trofeo. CR-S always overperforms on these tests against soft sidewall tires when they don't add extra camber for A052, Trofeo, etc
I'm happy to donate my time if you have a spare Porsche at Spa 🤣
🎉🎉
Did your Nankang CR-S tyres have a rim guard? The set I purchased do not, which at first led me to believe that they were somehow defective. I don't think I've ever seen tyres without a rim guard in 2024. They sit very awkwardly on the wheel.
There is no review of these tyres which mentions the fact that they do not have a rim guard, which is very odd in itself!
@@ericn7698 Hello and thanks for watching! No the tires don’t have a rim guard indeed. I am not sure why Nankang do design them like this but I am guessing that this is less of a “need” on a race track specific tire. Rim guard makes more sense on a road tire maybe? I am just guessing here!
very nice.
@@Sebull Thank you !🙏
@ I m pretty sure that with pirelli rs the 2:27 is possible 👌
@@Sebull Absolutely right! The driving itself could do with a bit of improvement!
so how much older was the Nankang CRS used in this test?
@@footageaerial3447 Hello! It had one heat cycle and 90kms of track use on it.
@@footageaerial3447 Hello! One heat cycle and 90kms of track use them.
@@wdp_racing so it wouldn't be much different if both were fresh tires. Assuming 13 laps are kill laps, that could take off 8 tenths on the next cycle

What about ad09? Did you try it?
Great video !!!

Congratulations to the driver and this 992 RS for this very nice time!!! Do you know what tires (brand and model) were used in this video??? Very impressive !
@@JCPAZERTY Thank you very much! It is decent but it’s not really fast! 😊. The tires in the video are Pirelli trofeo RS.

Thank you for giving both tires the most fair opportunity the day allowed. Alignment and tire pressures were helpful too. Loved the best lap footage and the analysis at the end. Nice driving! Yes, more comparisons please.

@@Pepinozaur 🤣🤣 Hope you like it fast guy! Let me know what you think when the pop corn is done :)
Great stuff! Trofeo RS doesn't exist in any size that I can use, but I know from Cup 2R that it is also more understeered in slow corners compared to the CR-S. Probably because the Nankang is just ridiculously good there, in medium and high speed corners the other tire is faster but on tighter tracks with more chicanes I can see the CR-S being the best option.
Hello Jan! Glad to see i am not imagining things when it comes to how good the front end feels when driving the CRS tire! It feels so rigid and so responsive! Really if you have the opportunity to drive the Trofeo RS you will see such a big difference between the two! Again, i am not SO sure IF the Trofeo RS is actually faster if both tires are brand new. Unfortunately that traffic messed up the experiment a little bit.
@@wdp_racing I also don't know how the grip evolves on each tire after X heat cycles, but it is probably not the same for both tires. On my car the 245/305 CR-S combo seemed more grippy on the second time of use. I needed more rear grip if anything. Next year I will try 265 + 325 in 19". The Nankang also seems to prefer ambient temp of at least 15C, if it's too cold they don't work at all. So an excellent tire for summer. In cold weather (or a damp track) probably the Yokohama A052 would be king but they melt if you push several laps in a row.
@@JCviggen1 Nice feedback. If anything i definitely felt less grip on day 2 that i drove them as opposed the first day. Maybe the heat cycle, maybe the ambient temperature but the tire CERTAINLY did not provide the same grip as it did on the hot session of day1. Haven't tried the A052 as it is not available in the sizes of the cars available so don't have any real personal data. So you think the A052 is at the same wear range like the Cup2R and Goodyear RS?
@@wdp_racing Hard to say about the 052, but comparing tires is a pretty imprecise science at the best of times. The Yoko does not have a super fast layer at the start like the Cup2R, so the lap times do not really peak at the beginning rather they are roughly the same for the first 4-10 cycles. I never tried the Goodyear. I ran the Yokos on my GT4 a few years ago, very nice lap times but they need to cool down every time and the best laps are after a few heat cycles. Amazing in light wet conditions, like a Michelin 4S or better. They definitely do not wear down as fast as the cup2R but that is not a very high bar to clear :) At least in some tests with some kind of cars, the Yoko is slightly faster than the CR-S. But its main strength is traction which a GT3 is not really very short of.
Nankang is 10 min from my house. In Taiwan we have 2 tracks and both have heavily biased toward slow to medium speed corners. Also, the entire culture of driving here revolves around touge time attack (think Best Motoring videos in Japan) which are tight mountain turns. I'm not surprised at all that the CRS is awesome in tighter turns.
Don't follow the brown line ;-)
I tried not too!
i bet there was more than one brown line after he settled the car 😂
Keep the green line they said 😃

@@PROofHAPPYWHEELS Thank you for taking the time to comment and for the productive input! Something to keep for the future and hopefully, weather allowing before the end of the season we will come up with another video!
perfect test 👍👍 thank you very much. BTW did you try testing on 991.1 GT3RS and what camper figures do you recommend please.
@@MrSuliatkdc Hello and glad you found the video useful! As we do not own a 991.1 GT3RS for the time being we can’t say we have tested it ourselves. But @k.zannos has plenty of experience with all kinds of Porsche platforms as a performance driving coach and he can confirm same findings as on the current video. As for values, due to the McPherson layout at the front, all generations up to the 992 love camber. So if we are talking about track use and optimising grip and tire usage, then you can be looking at even values of 3.4 at the front and something more like 2.8 at the back. Hope this helps!
How do you get those bars for tire temps?
When is the alignment test? How much negative camber did you add to maximise the CRS performance?
🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥
Very good and very detailed video. Would be interesting to see your insights with other brand tires like Yoko, Bridge, Dunl and others... Thank you for your effort!
Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to comment! We are currently in the process of what you are writting and might be sharing an update soon! Stay tuned :)
Do you have the new pirelli trofeo rs in your part of the world? I'm want to see that tire vs goodyear supercar 3r. I don't believe you have the 3r. Which is probably the fastest street tire.
The new Trofeo RS is definitely on our "to do" list as we have read only but good things for it! The SC3 we do not have on this side of the pond but we should be having the Trofeo RS soon, which is supposedly the European equivalent of the SC3, if our sources are not wrong! Stay tuned and lets see what tire and when we can get our hands on and test!
Thank you for this very interesting video. Great work and useful evaluation of both tyres 👍
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! Also glad to see that you found it somewhat useful! We definitely want to try and do some more of these comparisons for different tires out there, so stay tuned! :)
@@wdp_racing I drive a Porsche 991.1 C4S and was surprised by its potential to understeer, during tight corners on track. Would be interested to know whether increasing the front tyre width might help? Currently running 245/35 R20 on 9J / 305/30 R20 on 11.5J rear but have wondered about 265/30 R20 front.
