    No apology necessary here. The vocal meta of a singer, especially in the soprano voice is measured in the facility they have to fulfill all of the necessary and traditional Mozartian requirements; maintaining an even, smoothe singing line from top notes to the bottom chest voice, breath control, obedience to the interpretation of the text and a very precise adherence to musicianship, Here, Leontyne prooves that she has all that. Brava. I really enjoy listening to this recording, even with your ap0logies.

    What a great precious gift, Miss Leontyne Price is to the world. I wish the young people of today would open their eyes and receive the blessing of being created in the image of God; and realize that they have a gift in them that no one else can do and they would seek out their destiny to live the plan and purpose that God created for them. Miss Leontyne Price is an extraordinary woman of inspiration. ❤🎉❤

    Extraordinary artist! I only saw her once onstage, as Ariadne. Of course Price sings everything beautifully and with apparent ease. If I had been there, I would’ve cheered. But the whole point of this aria is the extreme range - low-high, high-low. And while Price’s high notes are glorious, the low notes are pretty weak.

    The underlying point to be reiterated is: the importance of mother and father's role in shaping children and their futures; discipline, preparation to be the best you can be. When children see in their mother's and father's that internal discipline to do their best, to be the best they can be...that makes children a reward to their communities. Not sports figures, not celebrities, but good parents should be the inspiration and role models for their children and their families to follow! Leontyne Price is a fabulous performer ..her voice is phenomenal!

      But they weren’t born of black African slaves in one of the most shamefully segregated states at the time when Price and her brother were children, now were they?? The obstacle of being black in America at the time when Price was born is unbelievable to most people now, but simply being black would have closed many doors which for white people would have been wide open, so please don’t try to compare the two races in any endeavor, but certainly not in the rarefied strata of classical music, and of opera especially.

    • @jasonhurd4379
      @jasonhurd4379 2 роки тому

      Actually she was far more suited to Mozart and Händel, and to a lesser extent Puccini, than she was to Verdi. Somehow she acquired a reputation as the consummate Verdi soprano, but that's the last thing she was. Her soft-grained voice was lacking in the morbidezza and bite that roles like Amelia in Un ballo in maschera and the two Leonoras require, and its lyrical weight was totally inadequate for Aïda, her most famous role. Had she stuck to Mozart, Strauss and Händel, her voice would most certainly have enjoyed a longer and healthier life, rather than deteriorating to the point that her stage career was effectively over after only twenty-odd years.

You also have to take into account ALL of the singing she was doing which included recitals, concert appearances, recordings and opera!! Brava Leontyne!!! Stop judging!!

      @@jasonhurd4379 What a bunch of absurdities! “… the last thing she was””…totally inadequate for Aida,” etc. Balderdash! Price had her weaknesses, like every singer, but she was still the finest and most enduring Verdi soprano of her era - in Trovatore, Aida, Ballo, Forza, and Verdi’s Requiem. Arroyo and Caballe intruded on her realm beautifully, but briefly. By the early 1980s, she was the only one left singing Verdi at the highest level, with morbidezza, expressive intensity, and a secure high C. (Mitchell was a minor contender, but came a bit later. Then Millo.)

    Here is a fact about the Lux Aeterna movement: It is the Communion Antiphon of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. Here is what its lyrics mean: Latin: "Lux Aeterna Luceat Eis, Domine, Cum Sanctis Tuis In Aeternum, Quia Pius Es. Requiem Aeternam Dona Eis, Domine, Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis Domine, Cum Sanctis Tuis In Aeternum, Quia Pius Es." Here is what they roughly translates to in English: "May Everlasting Light Shine Upon Them, O Lord, With Thy Saints For Evermore, For Thou Art Gracious. Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them, O Lord, And Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Them, With Thy Saints For Evermore, For Thou Art Gracious."
