This channel is for travelers. We are David and Robb, and have been traveling together for 30 years. We’ve been to over 85 countries and territories (so far) on trips that have ranged from a couple of weeks to a couple of years. We are currently taking a four year sabbatical and offer you an unconventional example of what is possible.
Whether you are looking at an extended vacation, a Gap-Year, a sabbatical, or even are a retiree who wants to travel, it can be invaluable to find peers who are doing what you want to do. You know what they say, we are the average of the five people we hang out with the most, so stick around and learn traveling skills as we discuss destinations, foods, SIM cards, visas, taxis, accommodations, safety, and whatever else comes up, so that you can draw your own conclusions and choose your own grand travel adventure.

Take This Two-Day River Cruise on the Mekong Before It's Gone! (Laos Adventure)
Hey adventurers, get ready to pack your bags for a once-in-a-lifetime river cruise!
We recently embarked on an incredible two-day journey along the majestic Mekong River, from the Thai border at Chiang Khong to the charming town of Luang Prabang, Laos. And let me tell you, it was one of the most unforgettable experiences we've had! (PS - you can also do this cruise in reverse if that better suits your travels.)
In today's video, we're spilling all the details on how to plan your own Mekong River cruise, including:
Choosing the right cruise company: There are a few different cruise companies operating on the Mekong, each with its own unique style and itinerary. We'll share our tips on how to pick the perfect one for you.
Booking your cruise: Once you've chosen a company, we'll guide you through the booking process and what to expect.
Border Crossing: Everything you need to know about crossing the border from Thailand into Laos.
Onboard activities and food: There are three "shore excursions" to enjoy, but mostly you get to relax on deck and enjoy delicious meals. We'll give you a glimpse of what you can expect onboard.
The cost of the cruise: We'll break down the costs involved in a Mekong River cruise, so you can budget accordingly.
But wait, there's more!
Did you know that several new dams are planned to be built along the Mekong River? This means that this incredible cruise experience might not be available for much longer! 😱
So, if you're looking for a relaxing, adventurous, and unique way to explore Laos, this is the perfect opportunity. Don't miss out on this incredible river cruise before it's gone!

I also have a 20.5 hour layover. Did you book with Discovery Qatar Transit Tours before arriving?
We didn’t book ahead. We just went to the counter when we arrived and had no issues booking on the spot. I don’t know if it’s always that easy but it worked for us. Have fun!
Very nice vids! Curious to know when you started and finished your camino as looks like we were walking similar times. I left Pamplona on 8th June and arrived in Santiago 13th July. Buen Camino!
We started June 6 from SJPDP, so you were probably just a bit ahead of us 😃
@@tendegreeswarmer nice! I felt it was a great time to walk! I had very good weather!
@@paulfarrer6346 The weather was great! We only had one rain day, well, two, but one just happened to be on a rest day so we lucked out there haha
@ Same! I had a very rainy rest day in Burgos and then an afternoon of rain in Galicia. I am thinking of walking this May but feel I may have more rain at that time of year 😅
So informative. Thank you guys.
We’re happy you enjoyed it. 😁
Welcome to Bali Islands 🏝, Indonesia 🇮🇩
Thank you 😃
Helpful video. I'm staying in an Airbnb on top of Farenheit88, and was wondering about the walkway. Thanks for the fleshed out guide.
Here is a bonus tip, is from the bottom of Fahrenheit there is another underground walkway that will take you to Pavilion, so you can go all the way to Suria KLCC on a walkway!
Good for you! Like you said, it is so nice to be able to change your mind, and full financial freedom will allow that even more! I retired early last year and I couldn't be happier, and one of the main things is that I can do what I want when I want. It is so freeing! Good luck to you guys and I can't wait to see what else you have planned!
We’re so glad you get it, the freedom is so awesome! 😄 We've got a little more work to do but we now know exactly the life we want to have to just gotta put in a little more elbow grease to get there.
@@tendegreeswarmer Agreed! The good thing is, once you figure out the end goal, it is a lot easier to buckle down and get there!
I have been travelling to Albania since 2016 (except covid years 20/21). I have felt perfectly safe everywhere. In the capital Tirana you can walk anywhere at any time. No drunk or drugged people it has to be experienced. The country is full of beautiful surprises and the people incredibly generous. ❤
You know it better than us, but this was our experience as well. We loved Tirana and spent another month there. 😀
Congrats on your anniversary and life changes! We appreciate all you have taught us! We also anticipate your honest review of the Gig Sky esim because we trust your feedback. May your next journey be a joyous adventure.
Thanks, we’re glad you’re enjoying the new adventure, and we appreciate your trust. The full Gig Sky review is coming soon, a few cons but mostly pros, the short story is it worked great for us. So nice to be able to text while at sea! 😁
What were your travel dates?
We started at the beginning of June until mid July. It was a good time for us, everything was open but never too crowded. And great weather!
big squirrel
Thanks for the great, detailed video! Can you tell me if you were able to pay for tours and purchases on the tour with us based credit cards? If not, did you need to get local currency or could you use us $? Thank you.
We didn’t do any shopping, but we paid for the tour with our credit cards, and we did stop for some food and the restaurant also accepted cards. It seemed like cards were widely accepted.
My repositioning cruise this year will be a transatlantic cruise on Virgin Scarlet Lady (Barcelona- Miami) in October that we booked for $85 pppd for an inside. We could have done a cheaper on a Princess cruise out of Southampton but we would like to try Virgin. I have seen fares as low as $34 pppd on some of the Princess transatlantics.
We have friends who have been saying some good things about Virgin, we might have to check them out. Hope you have a great cruise! 😀
Thanks everyone for the recommendations. Just got back from Ubud and have already booked next trip there. Beautiful place and amazing people! My suggestions, both mid- lower range prices and both close to Monkey Forest are Laka Leke and Cafe Wayan. They are sister restaurants and you won't regret it!
We love Ubud, it’s such a cool place! Thanks for sharing your tips, we'll keep those in mind for next time 😀
Did you experience any Bali Belly from these locations? Worried about my sensitive stomach :\
We do not have sensitive stomachs, but haven't ever had trouble in Bali. Most of these recommendations are busy places catering to tourists, but even the local places were busy. We are more scared of empty restaurants, the locals know who serves good food!
@@tendegreeswarmer Thank you for sharing :)
Please keep posting from Las Vegas.
Thank you, we are planning on it! 😀
Hey Guys. Just wanted you to know that as Platinum members with NCL, you get EACH one free bag of laundry. It is not marked on the page. We have been Platinum for two cruises now and they told us we each get a free bag of laundry. it is something not really known. we just had to write our name and platinum number on the bag. So 1 bag is good but 2 is better for long trips. We have a transatlantic in a few weeks and we will use both bags for a two week cruise.
This is a great tip that we did not know about ourselves until recently. But wait, it gets even better! If you take a longer cruise (I'm not sure what the limit is but both the 12 and 14 day B2B cruises we just finished qualified) you each get TWO bags of free laundry. So for our 26 day cruise we could have done 8 bags of laundry for free! We did not need that many, but it is still a very nice perk, and you are totally correct it is not widely advertised. Thank you for sharing! 😀👍
You all are so cute and seem like a joy to travel with. Thanks for the great information. It will be a great resource for our layover planning.
Thanks for the kind words, we're so glad you found it helpful! 😄
Cool and very informative. Thanks for sharing. I have more than 12 hours layover and thinking to try it out. However I will be landing around 6 PM, does this city tour worth it during night time? Also how do I go to hotel after tour, do they drop to your hotel or you go back to airport and take hotel shuttle from airport?
As far as we know the tour is return to the airport only, I wouldn’t think they would drop you at a hotel. But I guess you could always ask? I think we showed the schedule in the video, I don’t remember what time the last tour is, we returned just at dusk but we weren’t on the last tour of the day. Touring at night would be a different experience but still could be interesting i think! 😁 If you do it let us know what you thought about it!
I love Albufeira... Been going for long stays now for 8 years... Safe , clean, friendly , affordable and yummy.... 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
We completely agree! 😁 Thank you for watching
Thanks for all the great tips! You always have great ideas, suggestions and advice.
So glad you found them helpful! 😁
I've been traveling on and off for 40+ years. The past six years I've lived in three diffrent countries traveling slow as my senior dog was with me. Sadly my 17 year old dog had to be put to sleep due to dementia and cancer stealing her quality of life. I am planning on leaving on my travels again in the next two months. I also hope to find a new home base along the way. Las Vegas is a good place to regroup. I've lived there twice and furnished rentals are quite nice. David congratulations on your childrens book.🎉 I have already checked to make sure I can purchase it here in Europe through Amazon and I can. I am working on my own childrens book. My other love is mysteries which I have rough drafts of but the children's books hold my heart right now. Safe travels. ❤
So sorry to hear about your doggie! ❤️❤️❤️ And that’s awesome you are writing, it is a challenging field but can be so rewarding. Thanks for watching and keeping up with us 😁😁
Great video guys. Brings back lots of happy memories. Happy New Year.
Glad to hear you enjoyed taking this cruise! Happy new year 😁😁
What’s the website u use to search all the flights?
There are lots of good search engines, we used to rely a lot on Skyscanner but lately Google Flights has been doing great for us! It’s not perfect but it seems to be the best for us currently. 😁
We took a day boat tour on the Mekong from Luang Prabang, the 2 day looks pretty cool. We crossed into Lao from Nong Khai Thailand. We had to wait for the immigration officer to finish dinner and he charged us about $5 each for "after normal business hours"
Our day tour included the same cave of Buddhas, it was very cool!
At least they gave you a reason for the fee! 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for this superb explanation. It is a great video indeed! I went to their website and tried to book. However, the page only shows a gmail address, there is no online booking system in place. Could you tell me if that's normal or has something changed?
This is the same as it was for us. We made our booking only about two weeks before we wanted to go so we emailed them and texted them with their WhatsApp number - we got a faster response on WhatsApp for what that’s worth. Many similar small businesses in Asia don’t work with booking software because they just aren’t big enough to need it, you just talk to them and book your dates directly.
Very informative! Just what we needed!
So glad you found it helpful! 😁
About the mystery fees: I remember those very well! On the Thai border we paid them, but regretted it afterwards. When we crossed the Laos/Cambodja border we stood our ground and refused to pay the mystery fee. It took about 30 minutes of discussion but eventually we got through. This kind of corruption (because that's what it is) really gets me worked up and is one of the reasons why we dislike crossing the land borders in those countries now.
Wow I’m impressed you got out of it, I’ve heard other people say that when they complained the fee just kept getting bigger and bigger. We’ve experienced it a number of times but are glad it is still pretty rare in general.
Thanks for the detailed information about the cruise! Looking forward to doing it when we are in that area!
Thanks for watching, we’d definitely recommend it if you have the time 😁
Fantastic video, guys! Laos is definitely on our travel list, and taking a cruise to get there seems like an incredible experience. Thanks so much for sharing your journey!
Laos is a truly special place, we hope you can get there and see for yourself! 😁
I have not been able to get myself to try durian. I am pretty sure my opinion will be the same as yours. I honestly can't get past the smell to confirm that, thought. XD A friend of mine had positive things to say about the taste...but I believe it's a no for me.
It is definitely an acquired taste. Sometimes it’s funny to try things we don’t like, but it’s not for us either 🤪
Oh my goodness. I remember in Singapore in 1997 / 98 we had to turn on the water heater like 30 minutes before we needed hot water. I recall the switch was outside of the bathroom. 😂
Yup, many places are like that, and not just in Asia. Also the light switches are often outside the bathroom which I always think is weird! 🤣
I loved Vietnam and we did a Ha Long Bay cruise and it was amazing.
That’s another one we’d love to try one day! 😁
💛💙💛💙
Great video, and best wishes for the next chapter in life.
Thanks for the well wishes, we're excited for what's next! 😊
Great video ! Very well explained in a warm and relaxed manner. Thank you !
Thanks for the kind words, we're so glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and so fun to watch! It's definitely one of my favorite memories from the area as well!
We’re so glad we got to meet you! We are going to remember this for a long time to come, such a fun and relaxing little adventure. 😁
Sounds like a great adventure. Do you usually keep a small stash of US money “just in case” around the world?
Good question, we keep much less USD on hand than we used to have to, cause it so rarely is needed most places. But we do keep some with us just in case for situations like this. And it sure paid off here!
This looks like a really relaxing cruise or boat ride! :)
It really was, we had such a great time! 😁
Disneyfest Singapore 1997. ♥ Violet Crumble all the way!!! Now I want to go hunt down some Violet Crumble. Merry Christmas you two.
We found Violet crumble in Kuala Lumpur and most recently in Luong Prabong Laos which was exciting. But they are still hard to find in most places. They always bring me back to Singapore 1997!! 😄
Typical Americans Can,t do without a burger
We’ve been traveling full time for two years, why would we give up delicious burgers? 😄 What’s the food you wouldn’t want to give up even when you’re traveling?
I want to know what 26 days of cruising is like! I just got off the NCL Star, a repo cruise from Lisbon to Buenos Aires, and it was an amazing time. It was 17 days...and even though I loved it, around day 13 I felt like I was ready for it to be over. I'm envious you're doing the Africa cruise...I looked at that itinerary and asked on the boat about possibly doing it next year but they said, as you mentioned in your video, that this will be the last one. So...can't wait to hear about it. I'd also be interested in hearing about what the transition is like to living back in Vegas and working. Happy Holidays!
We were THISCLOSE to being on that cruise to South America with you. Sadly I think NCL has canceled that itinerary as well going forward ☹️. Thanks for the ideas, we’re gonna share lots about our Africa cruise and cruising in general. Repositioning cruises are often a great option for long term travelers. This will be our second time taking back to back cruises but if we get bored or antsy we’ll talk about that too 😄
Our son's girlfriend really wants to go to Disney, this might be a great option for them for cheaper lodging.
We had a much nicer place for a better price than we would have paid closer in to Paris, and we were close to the park, so for us it was a win/win! 😁
I love these "how to" videos, they are the best!
Thanks so much! 😁
Great video. Can you share how you found and book cruises online? Any hacks to find great cruise deals?

I was very pleased with your vlog about Stopover travel in Qatar - which I took avantage of on my way home to Aus from Camino Frances in November. Loved the tour! It was so HOT! So any tips along those lines (if you are going there you can do this too!) is always something I am going to appreciate
I'm so glad you enjoyed that one, which is also what we did right after our Camino! Thanks for the feedback, that is very helpful 😃
thank you for the information, very informative.

Exciting news. With so many nomads experiencing a degree of burnout over the past few years, would you say you’re a little burnt out? Do you have a place to stay lined up in LV or are you going to do local housesits to save on housing costs? For future videos, perhaps discussing how you plan your future FIRE life and if that includes nomad travel, long term staying in one spot in a cheap country, or, like Lisle Van Rhuman, maybe you plan to follow the spring.
I don’t think burn out is the right word, but we are tired. A long stay anywhere would address that but that includes going home again. We have found a great opportunity on a furnished place to stay which was also part of the equation, since furnishing a new place could have been an expensive proposition. Thanks for the ideas on future videos! We try to follow summer where we can, but I guess spring is ok too 🤣🤣🤣
