tl;dr How To Make Kombucha
Kombucha is a delicious, healthy alternative to drinks like soda and juice. It can be flavored, carbonated, sweet, sour, and unique to your own tastes. It is brewed with a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) and full of vitamins. You can use fancy, organic ingredients but this is not required.
I learned from the reddit r/kombucha master recipe and went from there.
How to make Kombucha
Materials Needed
Starter Culture (SCOBY)
Tea (caffeine will be eaten by the scoby)
Sugar
1 Gallon Jar
Water
Cloth or coffee type filter for lid
Bottles with strong, airtight lids
Optional but recommended: Fruit juice, fruit pieces, fruit puree
Instructions
Boil 2 cups of water and use it to brew strong tea. I use 6 teabags of black tea, steeped for 5 minutes.
Remove teabags and add one cup of sugar. Mix well while it's still hot.
Pour the tea into the gallon jar, then fill it with water. Leave space at the top for the scoby to grow.
Let it cool to room temperature (the scoby is a living thing, so we don't want to shock it).
Mix gently.
Cover it with your cloth or coffee filter, and put it away (do not refrigerate). It can take 1 to 2 weeks to grow. It will form a pellicle on top, as the scoby feeds on the sugar and tea. The by-product of this feast is kombucha!
After 1 week, begin tasting it every day until it tastes the way you like. I like mine sour and sweet, kind of like a lemon drop or a sour gummy worm. The longer you let it grow, the more sour it becomes as the sugar is consumed and acetic acid is created.
Label your clean, dry bottles to indicate the date of bottling and the type of juice you will use.
Add fruit juice, or chunks, or puree to each bottle. The amount you add depends on how you want it to taste and how sweet the fruit is. In the beginning I recommend filling the bottle about 1/8th with the fruit or juice. Adjust it later based on your experience.
Top it with kombucha, and fill it almost to the top (leave 1cm or less of an air gap at top). The less air you have, the better. This is an anaerobic fermentation process, where oxygen isn't needed and carbonation is created.
Keep the scoby and some extra kombucha as a starter for your next brew.
Let the bottles ferment in a non-refrigerated place for 2 to 7 days. After 2 days carefully "burp" the bottles to let out excess pressure and begin tasting to see if it's ready.
Enjoy your kombucha!

We received the Migoga Marble run toy sets from a neighbor whose daughter grew bored with them. It was fun to build, so we made a timelapse of our construction process. Even the little baby helped! Then Aiai enjoys some play time.
Loose Change

We saved loose change for 3 years then took it to a CoinStar kiosk to cash it in for an Amazon credit voucher for no fee. We shop so much on Amazon, it's a no-brainer. We were shocked at how much money we collected from pocket change in 3 years. Get yourself a piggy bank and give it a try!
Activities For Kids: Light Box Art Tutorial

We made these light boxes to protect and cherish our child's art for years to come. They make a great decoration with very functional lighting. Each light box was made with 3 art canvases of the same size, 4 z-clips (size-appropriate for your canvas frame), 8 screws (ours are #6 pan-head screws 3/8"), a clamp light (8.5" clamp light with reflector), and a dimmable LED bulb. The LED bulb doesn't...
This is why we don't go UP the slide (or let crazy dogs come down it)

This is why we don't go UP the slide!!! Actually I don't mind that she goes up the slide, as long as she watches out for the downhill traffic! Our dog loves to go down the slide, didn't feel like waiting her turn, and didn't feel like using the slide right next to it. She's very proud. Don't worry, the ground is that soft, sponge-y material and the little one didn't get a scratch.

Torrey Pines Nature Reserve Part 1: Beach
Переглядів 3638 років тому
Today we went hiking on the beach side of San Diego's Torrey Pines Nature Reserve (aka Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve). It is just north of the famous golf course, along the coast. It has many trails, some through local trees/brush/scrub and some right along the beach! Because I was feeling a bit under the weather and wanted to keep it easy, we opted for the mostly-flat beach hike. Check it...
Hiking The Camino Ruiz Trail Into Los Penasquitos Canyon
Переглядів 4678 років тому
Today we went hiking on the Camino Ruiz Trail, which starts from the end of Camino Ruiz at the Neighborhood Park. It's a nice, shady, cool hike, even on a hot day. We say plenty of lizards, horses, a few people, butterflies, fish, and there was a large pack of coyotes howling nearby. Overall, it was a great hike, and right in our back yard! This is in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego, Ca...
2-Year-Old Reveals Terror Plot In Mira Mesa
Переглядів 3848 років тому
In Mira Mesa! What starts out as a common "interview with a toddler" type video becomes something completely different when a series of terrorist acts are uncovered. It's a true-life conspiracy, with complex terror operation code names. "White cow" is the code name for the terrorist act which destroyed a great clock. The details of future terror attacks are as of yet unknown, but what we do kno...
Nice video. Looks like a good hike. As someone living on the canyon edge over the trails it's always nice to see people walking there.
Little baby has your eyes
Where is this poor childs mother? I watched another video and her awesome dad is a single full time dad and he was trying to figure out a good regime for her hair since she is biracial. He was doing a pretty good job on his own,Im just wondering how anyone could leave their little mixed girl with the white dad who doesn't know what a black woman knows about little girls hair care. Its obvious his doing perfect on his own but its still so cold hearted.Unless something happened to her, then I deeply apologize. She's such a cutie pie.
cjc2274 Have you happen to think this could be her mom? At least we get to see a woman interacting with the child regardless of her race.,Also what if the mother of his 2 black children happens to be a surrogate mother. He’s not doing anything wrong.,He can raise those 2 biracial girls by himself or with a white gay partner or a white woman. They don’t need a black woman in their life.
Its okay but how you done it ??????????
Lovely idea, my husband leaves change all around the house and I'm always picking it up and shoving it in my purse. I will buy one to keep near the door, PS. Your kids are adorable!
Great video, we are always surprised by the amount we save when we take our coins to be tallied up and cashed. The voucher option is fantastic. Thank you for sharing 😊
Super funny!!!😂😂😂
Great idea I like it
Very informative video, so far the best one. I am expecting mom now, a mixraced child so I am looking for ideas. And bless this daddy! awww! :)
THis is a good idea, we have a good 4 year worth of pocket change in several Mason jars.
It's a lot of work but also a lot of fun!
very pleased to find this video, I have much respect for you Dad. Thank you for taking such specific care of your daughter.
You are amazing!!!!!!!!! Best white dad on UA-cam. Some black people don't even know as much as you have actively researched 💥👍🏽
Thank you!
Afro Hair Addictions AHA heeeeeeey Tyrone, I am finding you all over the place...love you!
Great job! Just a suggestion to use the leave in conditioner first and then use light oil. This will help lock in the moisture she needs.
Yes! Thanks!
Great job!! I agree on the baby shampoo being harsh and drying. With hard water, about once a month or every 2 months, a chelation (swimmer's shampoo) is good for the hair. If not, hard water will continue to build up and will soon start to block moisture and her products.
Awesome info thanks!!!
Thank you for sharing this very informative video, u asked alot of the questions which i needed answers for. Greta work and keep it up, on a side note your daughter is STUNNING!!
Thank you!
omg poor baby ......
How great is it that u take interest in ur baby girl...She ends up looking so cute..
Thank you!
It's best to avoid adult products....you baby is still growing between 0 and 5 and her skin is five time more delicate...it can absorb much mor than an adult..don't do it! use HIPP baby lotion on her hair...its for skin but is moisturises....use thier baby shampoo too....and nd oil...its the best to be safe you don't know tge long term damage these chemicals can have on a growing child
😍 really nice
Thanks to you for a very informative video: I myself have wavy/curly hair, but I'm an Asian. And since people around me have straight hair ,I can't really ask anyone about hair routine. Your video is very helpful, love the explanations. By the way, you two are very cute! :)
Thank you!
What brand is the satin cap? I've been looking for a good one for toddlers and have been coming up empty.
Sorry for the late response. We got it on Etsy! I don't recall it having a brand name but will look for the store.
OK found it. It's the "SatinBonnetBoutique" on Etsy.
Thanks!
I love the effort you put in actually on the video. Very informative. I will share your video with my sis who lives in South Africa and has a mixed child as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much! It was a learning experience for me!
Great video, very informative and interesting. I have learnt quite a lot from this video and will be purchasing jojoba oil for my little girl instead of using coconut oil. Thank you for sharing :-)
Thanks Fatima!
Yes mixed, her mom of is Haitian descent.
Love these short clips, capturing the fun of learning and seeing new things. I love the zoo and I always visit in the summer!!!☀️
We love it too! We'll go tomorrow, weather permitting.
Your doing such a good job at taking care of her hair. Asking for professional help, is a good natural hair practice. Going to a natural hair salon that specializes in afro textured is best for hair cuts and protective styling. Here’s a few tips for later on... Combing & brushing should be done every other day, too much pulling at the scalp isn’t good. Natural hair is very delicate because of the twist & turns in the strand making it break of easily, so detangling every day isn’t good. Try washing her hair every 2-3 days not everyday because you don’t want to strip the hair’s natural oils. At night you can lightly spritz her hair with water sealing it in with a kid leave-in conditioner and cream styler(satin bonnet). In the morning to kick the curls back in place use a refresher spray and an oil. Using Organic natural hair kid/baby products is fine for now making sure to read the ingredients labels. Make sure the product says NO silicones, parabens, MEA/EDTA/DEA, phthalates, synthetic fragrances & colors and artificial oils.
Keep doing the LOC method frequently to keep the hair moisturize👍🏾. ALWAYS use a silicone FREE cleansing conditioner, always rinse out cleansers with very warm water to open the hair cuticle to receive moisture. Sulfates free shampoos have gentle cleaning agents that cleanse your hair withOUT the harsh drying effect. Their fine to use in your hair as long as the products your using don’t have ingredients that build up on the hair (like silicones and artificial oils). A good sulfate is Coco-sulfate that can be used as a clarifying shampoo to strip out bad chemicals that could get into her scalp and hair cuticle. Coco sulfate is great for a product build up w/ congested scalp, mud, salt and chlorine water. After shampooing always follow up with the pairing conditioner letting it sit in the hair for 5 minutes before, detangling the hair using a wide tooth comb. Leave in the conditioner in your hair for at least 15 minutes before rinsing out your rinse out conditioner with lukewarm water. Always rinse out deep conditioners, hair treatments & hair masque with cool water(unless the product says otherwise). Her hair looks very healthy right now, but when it gets longer try deep conditioning once a week. If you have one, a hair steamer can help the deep conditioner penetrate into the hair cuticle better. This will leave the hair feeling hydrated; a hand healed steamer is best for young kids. After you detangle her hair using your cowash, or after you shampoo & condition, towel blot her hair and add the deep conditioner using your tangle teezer to detangling. You can leave it over night rinsing it out in the morning or leave it in for 15 minute using a hair steamer then rinse with cool water. Investing in a water filter is not only good for your hair, but skin & nails too. It really does make a big difference in the hair’s health and moisture levels. 100% pure Organic unrefined cold pressed coconut oil is the best kind and is great to use in the spring & summer months when its hot. Not in the fall/winter because coconut oil solidifies in the cold making the hair look caked; use coconut oil sparingly a little goes a long way. Try trimming her hair when you start seeing split ends then every six months giving her a dusting if you see more split ends. Massage brushes like the one from Vanity Planet are better for stimulating growth in the hair NOT boat bristle brushes. Only use SOFT boar bristle brushes occasional NOT daily it frazzle the hair cuticle. A bath visor can help keep the shampoo out her eyes, www.amazon.com/Kair-Cushioned-Bath-Visor-Blue/dp/B00A7W0VLY?th=1&tag=rewardstyle-20&ascsubtag=dQcTW6Y0u2-n-b46yrhbansf--1813947901. These tips should help with the growth and maintenance of her natural hair, hope this helps❤️. For more info visit www.naturallycurly.com to figure out her hair type.
