Skurbuchan Losar / last day of Losar/ Losar mask dance !
The Losar (New Year) celebration in Skurbuchan of the Sham Valley is one of the most famous and vibrant in Ladakh!
Video is without any sound addition & effect .
The ninth day marks the final day of Losar, where masked men dance at village houses and fields from early morning to night. Special red and blue masks, known as “bag ser” and “bag sngon”, are considered the most sacred, and are passed down from generation to generation. All people join in the dances with great enthusiasm.
Along with local monks, the masked performers and all the villagers will also pray together to usher in a prosperous new year, and to ward off any upcoming obstacles. Losar celebrations like this help define Ladakh’s amazing fabric of heritage and culture, and are unique to this special pocket !
