THE SLICKERS - Johnny Too Bad
The Slickers were a Jamaican rocksteady and reggae group in the late 60's and early 70's, best known for the track "Johnny Too Bad", which appeared on the soundtrack for the 1972 Jimmy Cliff film "The Harder They Come" starring reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.
The full history of the Slickers is unknown, but it is known that some version of the band toured the U.S. and Europe and released occasional singles and two LPs throughout the 70's, before ceasing somewhere around 1978.

The song was later covered by the British reggae group UB40, the American reggae punk band Sublime, American power pop band The Silencers (1980, Columbia Records), and blues artist Taj Mahal. John Martyn covered it with additional lyrics on his 1980 album Grace and Danger. The song was also part of bluegrass artist Peter Rowan's live repertoire during much of the mid-1980s.

Jamaicans are famous for dropping the 'h' on many words (such as ting instead of thing), so we've shown this in some of the lyrics towards the latter part of the song. Also, in regards to this song, some jamaican dialects appear, most notably at the beginning: 'deyah' meaning here, or there. Futcha meaning future, nah meaning not, no, won't; and yuh/yah meaning you, you're or your. We were deba...

Been in a grey mood with all the global despair and in California the mass murders the first 3 weeks of 2023. This morning this song popped up in my head so I played it very loud and just let the music and the words begin my day and the 6th week of this year. strip the grey and paint my mood the color of bright blue skies
I love to sing the greatest song in the world that keeps me moving the keys to be hoping it keeps me aware of the way life is and the way you try to make it be thank God for words of wisdom😊

True words!
I never get tired of this song. Try Jah Love are my favorite songs from Third World. I would like to see them perform again.
These lyric ring true at how much injustice has been inflicted upon some people of this world out of greed, selfishness etc. Yet God created using equal in his own image. No matter how long it may take all humans are meant to be free to chart their own destiny.
