They had to be kept in the trailer due to hurricane helene. It was an emergency situation- not ideal, but better than drowning in their tractor. Before the flooding (and now) they are on lush grass and moved daily.

It will be hard, for sure! But we just keep reminding ourselves that our job is to give them the best life possible before they are slaughtered. It’s the blessing and curse of growing your own meat. But it gives us a greater appreciation for what’s on our plates.

I pureed it and used some in a pumpkin whoopie pies recipe and then froze the rest!

The farmer told us he had a difficult labor and had to be pulled. He was 3 weeks when we got him and walked like that the entire time. Our pastures have holes from being an old peach tree orchard so we talked to the farmer and he let us trade him out for a stronger calf. We suspect it could’ve been white muscle disease or injury from being pulled.

Yes! @clairereynolds8583 and @michaelametty8809 are both correct. He is an Irish Wolfhound which is the tallest breed on average! He is currently 36.5 inches at the shoulder.

It’s a heifer, and she’s not don’t worry, it’s not pierced, just a soft clamp and it doesn’t poke her at all. It’s made to poke the mom who then won’t let the calf nurse. The doesn’t feel it

Calf to big and it’s still getting milk from mom when it’s already older like if you where 7-9 drinking Brest milk still so the spike make the mom cow not let the calf get milk from the udder

Her mother is with her, just not in view of the camera. Her dam is a Jersey. You can see her in many of our other videos as well as more information on both of our cattle.

@@TheHenTwins been a few years ago. I also bought a Holstein heifer calf for $150 and my jersey raised her like her own calf. We are in east Texas

@@shirleysmith2734 wow I love that! We tried to graft on a Holstein bottle calf we got for $140 but unfortunately it scoured and never recovered 😭 bottle calves are tough. Any tips for grafting?
