Various focus groups, various countries, etc, are often debating over what the suitable and consistent rating system is. Let's face it, the rating system altogether is hypocritical. Because in this subjective world what would make that which is deemed material more untamed than the latter, any less subjective? Short answer, it isn't. I used to think obscenity was the most subjective social construct there is, right up there next to morality and certainly obscenity guidelines are both ridiculous, wholly up to interpretation, and wholly unconstitutional. But really even more of a matter of perception, is the idea that one concept, one movie, one whatever, is significantly more edgy than the latter. It's taboos altogether, at least certainly taboos in products of fiction, that is the biggest subjective social construct. Especially when you consider that not even some but large groups of people, can often be quite reactionary. You can argue about what the correct rating system is all you want and you'll continue arguing about it through the passing of time until the end of the planet. You'll never come to a consensus on this because it's not something based on a consensus, it is something based on separate opinions. The only rational conclusion at this point, is to let movie concepts be movie concepts and if you don't like it for whatever reason you don't enjoy the cinema piece, don't watch it. Certainly you need to stop childishly arguing over, "Oh, but this one isn't PG kids stuff, this one has a couple more 'fucks' in it," and, "But oh, this doesn't look like the appropriate PG-13, I don't like how the woman in her underpants was presented not to mention it might have had a few more 'fucks', I need to count it to be sure but it seems fitting for R," and, "Are you sure that's an R, that seems like it's an NC-17," and, "Wait a minute, this movie seems a bit much for an NC-17, can't you baby us a little more than that because I'm certain it should be banned altogether as not safe for life," and what have you about some silly movie that I could give zero "fucks" about. 🙄 Until we admit that what's worse expression than the latter is a matter of opinion, we're all doomed to repeat the same arguing baloney like kindergarteners throwing a tantrum over conflicting views and insisting it's "just a debate."

The writers simply thought this joke would be funny and Steven Spielberg actually got Jack Valenti because he loved it so much. "Because it's funny", is pretty much the context to nearly all the jokes in Freakazoid.

I just found out decades later after seeing this as a kid that not only is Jack Valenti real, but Stephen Speilberg liked this bit so much he asked jack himself to do it. And for a guy who as far as I know wasn't a voice actor, you cannot tell. He does a hilarious job here and fully commits to the bit.
I remember Paul Rugg saying he wrote that sequence just as a joke, then when the actual Jack Valenti came in, and started reading, he's like "oh shit, he's going to read the "these are my cheeks" line, I forgot I wrote that" and the guy just read it like a pro. For a champion of something as inherently evil as the movie ratings system, easily one of the greatest blights of history, Valenti's kind of a swell guy.
Now it might be a good time to tell you all about the Motion Picture Association of America's fascinating rating system. Now, if a family wants to see a movie and it's rated G, then everyone can go. Mom, Dad, Buffy, Jody, Grandma, Grandpa, and even Sgt. Scruffy. If it's PG, then there might be something unsuitable for younger sensitive viewers in which case Buffy will just have to stay home. Along with Grandma who didn't wanna go to the movies anyway. Now if the movie is rated PG-13, then it might have some material in there that Mommy and Daddy might not like some of the young kids to see so Jody might just have to stay home. Bye-bye, Jody. Now if the movie is rated R, then it's gonna contain some adult material. In which case, Dad whose got a lazy tummy, will probably want to stay home. But if the movie's rated NC-17, that means the kids can't get in only adults can get in. Mom doesn't wanna see adult movies.
