You definitely didn’t do any research before moving there ! This is a racist tradition . Don’t come to America with that pagan crap.

As a expat try before you buy, living for me is better outside big cities more space less costs and crowds. Tip do seek out ex-pats as you can make friends easy and they may include Dutch friends. I have experience racism which can be worse when you understand Dutch as you hear it in phrases so indirectly. But that said there are normal secure nice people also. Food try to explore farms often better value (landwinkel). Schools are of good standard international quality vary between locations so explore for your needs but often juniors are linked to secondary. It’s a good country ok summer but overall a wet rainy place. Big population in a small place.

Why did you move to the Netherlands and not build your home country? If everybody with any form of education leaves Africa it will always stay poor and badly developed. And than blame it on colonialism

The Netherlands is the official name of the country. Foreigners often call it Holland, but that's only the central part of the country. The two large coastal provinces in which The Hague and Amsterdam are located are called South Holland and North Holland.

Amsterdam biking is not really entry level difficultly. You can get a anonymous transport card or an personal. Personal has a large discount 40 or 50% i think. You can also get other subscriptions for other discounts.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences in the Netherlands, Diana. The situation in the Netherlands has changed since 2018. 1. Municipalities now have to give you that address at which you can register - which is a requirement that few other countries have - so that you can access the obligatory health insurance and so on. I don't know the ins and outs of this; it's a very recent development that most people won't know about. 2. Brexit keeps progressing too and that's important if you have the British nationality. 3. Also, Dutch municipalities are now obligated by law (Wgs) to identify people who may be struggling financially. So if you are struggling financially and for example apply for exemptions, such as for local taxes, this may bring what I call "the payment police" to your door. There is something called "vroegsignalering" now of which the implementation varies wildly between municipalities. It's often not really geared toward supporting you, but rather intended to help creditors avoid financial damages. If you want to learn more, read the report "Hoe eerder, hoe beter" by the Nationale Ombudsman (Feb 2024) and check out "vroegsignalering" on the NVKK website. 4. In the Netherlands, sadly, you can also run the risk of being blacklisted as someone who may be playing the system if you make use of facilities supposedly intended to make life easier for people, because of factors like having a foreign-sounding name etc. There was this big "toeslagen" scandal caused by an algorithm. Reassurances have been made but so far, nothing really points toward it being guaranteed that it will never happen again. Unfortunately, there really are groups (organized crime) that are really doing this. Just now, a large number of applications has been detected all from the same IP numbers in Bulgaria, for example. It doesn't help. ---- I was in England for nearly two decades, still have settled status there, am currently in the Netherlands, but will probably return to England. Running a business, for example, is much easier in England. And while I used to see the Netherlands as very well organized, and I initially struggled with the way things were done in England, I now consider the way England works often much more efficient and, at the same time, am seeing similar (technology-caused as well as polarizing) developments in the Netherlands that I noticed in England. Zaandam Leger des Heils is probably what you mean, by the way. Again, I'm so sorry this happened to you, but as I am sure you know, bad experiences often offer great learning opportunities and you can turn them into a super strength.

I hope and wish that no more foreigners come and stay in my country. It is full. Most dont even have the decency to learn the language. They complain that its so difficult yet my Thai wife learned it in one year. She speaks, writes fluent Dutch. So never use stupid excuses. You take housing of which we have short supply. That causes the rents to skyrocket. In the big cities I cannot even speak my own language anymore in retail shops; restaurants etc. English only. INSANE

Hello 👋 Hello Madam 👋 My name is Ogechukwu, I'm 32 years old and I'm from Delta State, Nigeria. I came across your UA-cam page and I have a problem. I graduated with HND in Civil Engineering from a Nigerian Polytechnic and I really want to know If I stand a chance of securing admission in one of the Universities in the Netherlands. I'm really worried and I do not know what to do or how to go about it, I just want to know my fate and where I stand with my HND certificate. I have been running around UA-cam to find a solution but yet to solution until I came across your page and then decided to reach out to you, I'll patiently waiting for your response, thank you very much.

I don't think your statement about only accepting dutch bank cards in supermakets is correct. Pretty sure they accept most european back cards. However, I think the problem you had is that you had a credit card and not a direct debit card. Very few shops in The Netherlands accept credit cards, mostly just big restaurant and hotels. In fact, most dutch people do not even have a credit card.

Can you please make a video on how to find your "first" apartment when you just arrive in the Netherlands? Assuming the person does not have a local address, bank account or a permanent phone number. All the house-hunting videos are for someone who has all those three things. But I cold not find one video where it tells you how to find an apartment when you first arrive and have no bank account.

Amazing, the things you mention. Let me clarify by reversing the situation: "Hello, I'm Dutch and I emigrated to the USA. I wish I'd known before I moved that American banks don't have apps in Dutch. Also I'd wish I'd known that official letters, from the government, are not in Dutch, but in English. Because I don't speak English. I only speak Dutch. I also did not expect that I would need an American bank account to get my salary from my employer." That sounds a bit naive, don't you agree?
