heyo, this is a relly cool video! ive noticed almost all older peavey black widow speakers have an issue where they get foam sucked into it, but after theyre cleaned theyre 100% like new, i got a pair of peavey ils 1594h's from a landfill, paired with black widow 1508-8 and 44xt's, the only issue is that the black widows sucked in foam and needed to be cleaned, after that they were like new for absolutely free!!
@@inputmig6625 wow! That's is cool! Nice find! And I didn't know they had that problem with the foam. Good to know, thanks. I was just cleaning cuz I like to clean lol I really need to get a head for this so I can jam on it
@@ant_yep aye i wish you good luck on finding an amp head, cant wait to see a vid on it!
You can hot wite it. Plug it into the fuse box so it only has power when the key is on. But the injection will be trying to spray every time the key is on.
Your fuel injection isn't getting the 12 volts it needs to spray.
I just ordered the 75th anniversary model
@@choppedandscrewedcustoms Nice! That gold looks beautiful! Great pedal, I really love intonating on it
I have a question, so when i play this amp i boost it because for some reason teh amp by itself sounds way weaker than every video i see. could this be because of an old pre amp tube? I bought it off someone online and I imagine the preamp tube is really old
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 maybe. If it was abused and still has the factory tube. That tube is like 30 years old. But even mine doesn't sound as heavy alone, it needs help. It's really hard to say cuz I actually have 3 vs100 and not one of them sounds the same, the other 2 are on the lighter side of gain/distortion. The one i use for YT sounds the best. I always wanted to try a new tube and see if anything happened but never got around to it. I mean on my videos it's all amp, I use no pedals. But compare to other amps it is a bit less distorted
Bro Please, celestion G12T-100 sounds the same but 100w? Uniqe difference?
@@joaokleber1668 these are two celestion G12T-75 @ 16ohms wired in parallel = 150w, 8ohms. I think two 50w or 60w @ 8ohms each would be a nice match for this head. = 100w or 120w @ 4ohms. So it can really get them speakers moving. I have a 4x12 cab with G12T-75 and with the same head it sounds thicker/"basier." So i have to lower the bass on the head
Hey man its been a while! But i finally got a cab with my valvestate. I got a 4x12 4ohm cab and it was used for 50$ and is amazing and sounds like old deicide and cannibal corpse with the way i set it up. I use power dimension on as well as my metal zone for a boost. And i will make tons of covers and videos with it soon on my channel.!
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 NO WAY! Dude thats awesome! And 50 Bucks!.. NICE! Can't wait to hear man!

I just picked up a VS100 with an AVT412 cab, been really enjoying it!
@@foofy14 Nice man! Sweet setup 🤘
hey man so i got my amp and i only have played it with headphones and idk if its just for headphones but the amp doesn't sound that pleasant when youre just running headphones right to it. is that just mine or does yours sound meh with headphones too?
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 I just checked and mine sounds like AC/DC with headphones. Yeah thats definitely not how it sounds with a cab
@@ant_yep yeah thank you man. Like i switches headphones and it sounds better but still not nearly as good as it would with a cab. Also i still havent decided on a cabinet to get or anything. Im a noob with this stuff cause ive only used combo amps, but the back of the valvestate has 2 identical loudspeaker inputs on the back that are both 4 ohms right? So do i need a cab that has a 4ohm port on the back? (Im not going for full stack just one 4x12 or something)
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 yeah it's the headphone port, I'm having the same issue. And no worries, ohms are weird. I always have to triple check myself. So yes on that head there's 2 speaker outputs (total of 4ohms) they share the same ohms. So let's say you have a cab or speaker that's 4ohms, thats it, you can't add another. You reached the minimum. But if you have two 8ohm cabs or speakers, them 8ohms turn into a 4. You can plug 2 8ohms in that head. Or you can plug 2 16ohms. Cuz 2 16s turn into a 8. 4ohms is perfect for that head. Anything higher won't hurt but the sound suffers. Example... them 2x12s I'm using are both 16ohms = 8. Its ok. But if they were both 8s = 4. That would be perfect. Or if you get a 1x12" box and put a 100w 4ohms in it that would do too.
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 ah I overlooked the part where you said you're going for a 4x12 cab. So yes you want a 4ohms cab to match perfect. But if you did get a 8 or 16 thats still ok but the sound would be lacking. Its when you get into 2ohms or 0ohm that would be dangerous for this amp
@@ant_yep alright so to recap, if i had just one cab like a 2x12 cab and thats the only one i wanna use i would use one cord from the loudspeaker input of the amp and then that goes into the 4ohm section of the cab. But if i wanted to use a full stack i would do the same thing but for both loudspeaker inputs of the amp i would plug them into the 8ohm section cause 2 eights turn into 4? Is everything i said correct? (Also sorry for commenting so much you are great help and i have the same amp as you but i need to learn about ohms and cabs before i buy one)
is this the vs100 or 8100?
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 that one is the vs100. I mostly play that one. I do have a 8100 but somethings wrong with it. It doesn't sound right
@@ant_yep thank you man. i keep watching the vs100 vids like this one to get excited for the amp cause mines arriving in like 4 days and its my first amp head cause all ive ever had were combos and such. but i do not have a cab unfortunately but i have a few ideas on what i can do to still play it when its here. also I dont think so but ima still cask does this vs100 have a small built in speaker? or do i need a cab for sure
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 tight! I totally understand. I too watched a lot of valvestate videos lol. And no there's no speaker in there. And its a 4ohm head so whatever you use as long as it equals 4ohm and up you are safe.
@@ant_yep sweet thanks man and also i seen a video of someone plugging a guitar right into an amp head and then they took another cord and plugged it into the marshalls headphones spot and then the other end into a combo amps fx loop. Do you think that would work? I have a fender champ 100 that id possibly use until i get a real cab
@@deathmetalcoverz5865 I have no idea. I don't know that trick. Pretty cool. I'm definitely curious, ill look that up
i just bought one of these but it needs to ship here and im excited

My 8100 sounds really good through T-75's I need to experiment with the rest of my heads through them.

Yes I do buddy. Hey hi, nice to see you. Oh cool. You have a UA-cam channel? I will subscribe 👍
I bought one of those new in 1999 and ran it through a 1960A cabinet and it crushed. Anything from Pantera to Metallica to AIC to Rage, did it all.
Sweet man! 🤘
clean they bot sound good, but with distortion the g8c is better for sure. i have one to retry. i'm not a fan of msaller spaker than 12 inch but it's worth a try.
Had two of them back on the 80's-90's. When I bought mine the black widows were an option. The basic speakers were made by either Becker or eminence. The nice part of the bw's is that the speaker basket can be replaced when you blow the speaker rather than replacing the whole speaker. This allows for a huge cost savings. Peavey still supports repair parts for even their earliest bw's.
Clean all the pots, on the transistor that you soldered (with the 3 legs) the last joint you soldered was really bad, you need to heat at the bottom of the leg, not the top, so the solder flows around the solder pad on the board.. Oh, and you shouldn't be poking around in an amp if you don't understand what you are doing, you will likely electrocute yourself.
Hey! Will this be great for pop-punk? I’m trying to match this with a Hartke GH412a 4 x 12 cab
I do have the model 8100 (slightly different) paired with a 1965A, it fucking rocks when playing sum 41 and simple plan so give it a shot you wont regret it.
Shishkabob is my favorite word, yea you pronounced it correctly
Thats quite nicento see the strobes accuracy compared to the digital. Its like seeing an analog VU meter, the VU is way more accurate than digital unless you have a ton of lite bars to measure the level but who makes sucj a thing? Im going with the Peterson amd just started to be bold to intonate and adjust the action. Thanks for the video.

i got this vs102r 2x 12 in speaker for 60 usd on offer up
Your soldering needs work not going to lie don't hold the soldering iron on top of the leg hold it at the base as you need to put heat on the track too just not too much don't hold it there for too long. there's 3 things you need. A clean surface, flux, and heat. Heat is what makes it all bond together strong its no good at the top of the leg solder is going to fall sure because of gravity but it will be cooler at the base and you'll end up with dry / cracked joints. I'm all for people giving something a go but at least watch some basic tutorials first. The middle leg looked ok you want them like that. That last leg was not good at all.
No you're right, I definitely need more practice. In the future when I do this amp again ill go over my work cuz its still not working right. Thanks for the tips
@@ant_yep Good look buddy i love these amps too i have a couple of them. I like them so much I had one put in a custom made plexi cab. Looks awesome. I learned to solder as i mainly work on cb and amateur radio..
I had this cab not with Black Widows though. Played through it with my Mark III. It could boom. At the time I was playing T-40 too it could get loud. Lol. Wish I still had it.
Dam thats cool. I feel bad cuz I still haven't used it. I was meaning to but I don't have a bass head and then time flew by. I had to look up T-40 bass cuz I didn't know it and MAN! They looks Amazing! What a great setup. Peavey 2x15 cab, Mark lll and t40 bass! NICE!
@@ant_yep yeah there’s tons of videos on the T-40s. Built like a rock and as heavy as one too. Peavy never skimped on making stuff lightweight lol. I got the bass and Amp still from 40 years ago lol!
@@patpompeo9354 wow... I can only imagine the weight. I'm definitely going to be watching video on the t40s. What... did the T stand for Tank lol And man thats really cool, really. Good stuff 👍
@@ant_yep 🤷🏻♂️ no idea. All the guitars and basses were Ts
What is the sound difference using just one cabinet at 4 OHMs compared to running 2 at 8OHMs?
Good I thought. I used to use that amp and one Marshall lead 1960 cad at shows all the time. It sounded tighter and punchier. Kinda like a quick punch. The full stack sounds fuller/thicker with a bit more bottom end. I wish there was a setting where these two cabs could come out to 4ohm together. That would be awesome
That just seems so weird to me that they would block two thirds of the speaker surface with the baffle, and then also block the centre of the speaker with a band across the grill cloth. I can see that their intent seems to be to deflect the sound waves from coming out at a straight line, but that just seems really inefficient.
I have no idea really but I regret selling it. You make great points tho
What about when you want to run 1 8ohm mono cabinet into the head like the Marshall 8412 cabinet?
You can run a valvestate into a 8412 cabinet. Cuz the valvestate is 4ohm and the 8412 is 8ohm. 4ohm can go into the 8ohm because its greater. Now if it was opposite thats a no no. 8ohm head should not going into a 4ohm cab. What helps me remember is always thinking about your head first. Whatever that number is you want your cab number to be the same (that is best performance) or higher. The higher the cab ohm number is not so great performance but still safe. You can even run 2 8412 cabs because a 4ohm head with 2 8ohm cabs = 4. Perfect match. 8ohm+8ohm=4ohm.
Editing?
Just use the real deal Cheap, right from Marshall UK,threads right into the plastic pre threaded bushings Alan wrench install (I used a wide slotted stubby screw driver) Done and done And I can still stall my 1982 800 stack and the factory castors turn right into the depression in the B cab like GOD intended😊
Lol "like GOD intended" Nice! You're absolutely right about that. And yes, I should of got the right ones from the start
Great job! But I watched for 36 minutes and still don't know how those sound like. How about a sound test in the end, even if only for 1-2 minutes.
You're absolutely right man. I still need to get on that. Thank you
Been playing Bass since I was 14 years old. Grew up on Peavey bass Amps / Speakers.. As far as the speakers "15" Black Widow" I still think they sound just as good as anything out there. I have played through Markbass speakers/Ampeg speakers/ Hartke/Fender etc etc. They are just ok but nothing special in my opinion. I had a Sunn Sentura 1 Back in 1984 that I ran through a 15" Black Widow enclosure along with extra EQ boxes and that used to give me a fantastic sound. Traded that in and got a Peavey Century Head that I absolutely loved as well. Great Job on the restoration.
Thats cool man! I love hearing stories like that. You got to jam on a lot of cool amps. Nice! And thanks! Just showing an old Peavey some love. I been wanting to get a head so I can jam on it but I'm not a bass player so I really don't know what's good or not
I have to admit, that Warehouse speaker is a big improvement. Too bad about that damage, though. I might have sent it back, I dunno. Or they could have given you a credit. I recently watched a vid of a guy who turned a frontman into a head and plugged it into a huge cabinet, and it sounded really good.
Thanks. And yeah I was butthurt about the damage but lazy to do all that, I still have it tho. A frontman into a head! Wow that does sound interesting. Ima looks for that video. Thanks 🤘

the council took my amps and guitars because my neighbour made a noise complaint about me playing loud music on a night while I was at work. it wasn't me playing loud music, it was my downstairs neighbour. I got my amps back after paying a fine and waiting 28 days to teach me a lesson. so when I got them back, first thing i did is plug in the Marshall and crank it. I have also since put cctv in every room which records 24 hours a day, so I can prove next time they take it when I sue them, that it wasn't me.
