This obstacle ended my hike on this fork of the Narrows in Zion NP. It was about 6 feet tall and proved difficult (slippery) to climb. It is big enough to fit behind though. I originally uploaded this video shortly after hiking The Narrows in August 2019, but after checking the link from the blog post recently, I found that it had been deleted by mistake. Awesome review… so far after looking …this is my choice… had started by looking at ikamper mini 3.0 and a similar one from RoofNest but with each coming in at btw $3400 to $3900 (yikes) with really the only major difference being those are hard-shell tents vs using a soft cover like yours I’m at a loss why the $2k surcharge for a cover! Lol. My only concern and question for you is any way of securing this tent with locks while it sits atop the roof? Granted I would probably only leave on when I’m venturing out… but even those hours at work would leave me wondering….

      Hi and thanks for your question and watching! I stopped using the Brooks saddle a few months ago. I had it on the bike for about 3 years. After about 500 miles I thought it would start feeling more comfortable. The break-in period is supposed to be about 300 miles. I didn't notice much of a difference after 500 miles. I put about 2,500 miles on the saddle before I switched. It just never worked for me the way I thought it would. It's just a preference thing in my opinion. Some people love it. I have talked to other riders about it and had mixed responses as well. I was okay with the Brooks saddle, but in the end I opted for something with some more cushion.

    Mini Solar Ti; You can steplessly dim down a bulge and all other hungry electricity consumers with a 5000W dimmer (7, EUR). I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos about it on my channel ua-cam.com/video/eC2olbCBhh0/v-deo.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because extreme current peaks no longer arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices...

    Hey there I mounted a nice front rack yesterday. I might be wrong but it seems like you used the wrong upper mounting plates or they changed the setup. There are mounting plates for uni-crown forks, like on the Troll and some for slugged forks. It would have taken a lot of aggression to mount the rack with these plates on my fork.

    • @exploresinc
      @exploresinc 2 роки тому

      Honestly the mounting options were a little daunting for me. The bike shop mounted the front rack on this bike and I have never adjusted them. They did seem a little tight at first but I think what they did is flip the plates around and uses spacers. It's been a few years since so I don't remember exactly what they did. I appreciate the comment comment 🧐

      I have got a troll and a 26 inch long haul trucker. To be honest the LHT is a faster lighter bike and with 2inch tyres you can still off road. BUT advantages of the troll are Run rim or disc brakes More braze ons, luggage options Wider tyres up to 3inch or 2.7 older model Rear dropout designed for hub gears, a rolhoff or derailleur. You could run 700c wheels, I tried this, makes a faster bike but very high bottom bracket. I can't commit on the disc trucker but my choice to get travel quickly on tarmac LHT or off road Troll. It's a shame the troll is discontinued but it is a very heavy bike.

    Great review, I bought just the frame to build a custom off road end of the world touring bike. I also mounted a B.O.B. yak trailer to the thru axle using B.O.B. nuts and 10mm x1mm bolts. I mounted the same tire on the back but prefer extra grip on the front, so the 26 x2.75 Dirt Wizard is up front. Along with Asym i35 WTB rims to widen the tire profiles. Went with a I.C.S. dual density gel seat and cane creek thudbuster to keep the ride extra smooth. Went with a scandium bar with bar ends. So far a great solid ride, can haul alot of gear. Absolutely no frame flex. Enjoy the scenery.

    • @exploresinc
      @exploresinc 2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching. I did use this on a few nights with temperatures around 30F and got away with a 20F sleeping bag. It's not insulated (other than the mattress) although the tent material holds in heat decently if you zip it up. I would treat it as if it were a regular tent and insulate your sleeping area accordingly. Add a sleeping pad or blanket on top of the mattress if you need to and a warm sleeping bag/blanket(s) should do the trick.

    The nuts on the ladder should be lock nuts, so it doesn't really matter that they're not cinched down. I don't own one yet, but I used to work in a machine shop where parts like this needed the freedom of movement but also needed to be secured, and nylon lock nuts do the job just fine. If they aren't lock nuts, definitely replace them with some.

    • @exploresinc

      supposedly there is more rolling resistance, as the wheel's circumference is smaller, but not by much. It's a little noticeable. I went with a 26" because around the world, 26 inch wheels are still the most common (I think). So you could get parts in almost any country. In the US and Europe, 700C is the norm, but any reputable bike shop should still be able to service a 26" bike.

      If you are planning on touring (mainly on pavement) then the LHTis probably the best choice. BUT I like the Troll because it can handle a little better off-road. That being said, all Surlys can be customized to be geared toward pavement or trail. Everything "out of the box" with the Troll was what I was looking for to handle all terrain. It depends what specs you are looking for and the terrain you plan to tackle. Really can't go wrong either way.

      I sometimes left my blankets inside and the tent still folded up but I noticed the extra thickness can make it a little tight to close. As for a thicker mattress: if it compresses well then you can probably get away with a couple inches of extra thickness. It would probably have to be custom cut from foam to fit well.
