It's actually quite shocking but far too many people in the industry are in the position now when they are literally praying for him to finally land in prison or they will lose... well, face I guess. Face and really nothing more. There is no relief when yet another of his accusers is proven to be a lying perjurer although there really should be a relief for many people. Well, maybe I'm wrong, Sam Mendes seemed to be relieved :-)

One of my favourite scenes so far. Love how the music changes to something hopeful even though we all know he's bullshitting, he even tells us himself. It creates this really strange feeling, emotionally you want to go along with that hopeful message and music, but you know it's manipulative crap so the affect is totally unsettling. This is how manipulation works, when you fall prey to it it's because you *want* to believe it somewhere inside of you. Deep down the parents and others don't really want to believe that the girl died because of someone else's selfish ego, and that there are callous people in the world. It's much easier to believe that it was God's mysterious and benevolent plan that lifted the girl into heaven. The denial of the religious is easy to shape, and for some like Frank quite enjoyable. The way music is used in House of Cards is just genius, I don't think I've ever seen it exploited the way it is here. The camera angle is interesting too, especially since Frank often likes to adopt the father role when manipulating others.

You gotta love how he is actually using Christian gospel for his own goal here. He knew he was in front of a very faithful crowd that knew the bible, so he took narratives directly from the bible and used them. Many people here comment that this was super easy to see through what he did there, but it actually is not if you believe in the bible. When you actually believe it, your believe would overwrite your reasoning.

@@maxladue993 Not to be antagonising on purpose, I'm genuinely curious about the thought-process from an intellectual perspective because it's always seemed like an oxymoron to me. People necessarily have to pick and choose between what is literal and what is metaphorical in *insert religious text here* in order to reconcile their beliefs with modern day sensibilities. So when it comes to the more appalling and questionable texts it was just 'the culture at the time' but at the same time religion provides 'objective morality' ? Not to presume your stance on any of these issues but these are what I just can't understand as someone who was never nudged into practicing religion.

This was from another reply I made, but I think it would be important to comment again I love this analysis, and looking at politics of the present, can you imagine how good of a president Joe Biden would have been, had he gone the frank underwood route, because of what he had caused in Afghanistan and sure maybe it was necessary, but the mom and dad's of the deceased(13) I haven't heard a good thought from them to Joe, they even said he was making it about him and not the family member that the parents cared for. Frank used his dad as a way to empathize in such a way despite the lady from the story having died of something else, of course comparing this to afghan, is 10x worse, but I would say the sting would not be as bad as it should
