Battle River Valley Alberta With DJI Avata, Home Of The Woodland Cree And Blackfoot People
We were out working with agriculture spray drones about an hour SE of Edmonton. When I left the farm, I happened upon this valley. It was one of those times when beauty overtook me. The huge valley immediately had me picturing the past when the valley could have been settled by First Nations people. I imagined beautiful people working at the river edge and the kids running around playing. Woodland Cree to the North, The Blackfoot People to the South with the river as a natural boundary.
This video is a departure from our usual technical work but I thought it would be great to fly the valley and then I decided to share the footage with you.
The DJI Avata was the prefect tool for a cinematic flight through the valley. I was only on location for about 15 minutes. This video is of a first and single recording of a flight with about 30 seconds removed to get my vehicle out of frame. I had six drones with me and did not even consider another drone. Perhaps it would have been nice to get a 4/3 sensor up, but I am happy with what we are sharing. It was a nice break from an otherwise great day of flying DJI Agras spray drones.

We have not ever seen any footage taken of Regina with an FPV Drone. We decided to take our DJI Avata out and film around Conexus Arts Centre, Downtown and at Mosaic stadium. We ended up with about 2 hours of great footage but no one would want to sit through that amount and so we put together a short representation of what we have. We sure hope that you enjoy. When Rocky Mountain Drones moved from sales of the T40 to the T50, we were quite anxious to experience upgraded performance. Getting out in the field with customers is a great way to put the drone through its paces. We do not see any real movement forward in acres per hour. The controller interface is very nice, improved logic of navigation within the application. The drone is very smooth and i...

We passed through area's where the 2023 fires occurred in Northern Alberta. The devastation was incredible and quite sad to see. We were not able to fly when we first saw the area because of flight restrictions so these videos were shot some time later. The good news is at this point we could see vegetation starting to grow to create a new forest. info@libitron.com libitron.com

Pretty 😊
Great video and perfectly shot v different to operating in SE AUSTRALIA in steep hills. Good to hear speed, height in metric. Can you tell me speed height and swath width? P
We have found that wind plays such a big role. I can tell you what we do though. If winds are less than 25km/hr, then we will fly at 3 meter , about 250 micron and will expect 10 meter swath. We will drop alt a little bit at a time to find a sweet spot in higher winds and lose a bit of swath. I have also come to love to film with a chase drone to get a real accurate look at how the fluid is behaving and adjust. For example if you have a look at the sequence starting at 10:17, you can see very well what a speed of 25 km/hr which is just below 16 mph, 3 meters alt and 250 micron behave like in a 15 km/hr wind. The wind direction also worked out so that we were able to fly the field with and then against the wind direction which also is a huge contributing factor. We do not love flying with a side wind.
👍
Regina has its own Central Park.
Nice
Beautiful structure. A fire hazard waiting to happen.
I sure hope not. I love seeing the bridge when I drive by. I will be passing it next week.
Beautiful city
In the video what exactly were you looking for from a thermal perspective? Majority of the poles in the video had no connections on them so I assume those poles were a visual inspection only. What is the temperature limit you use that you would determine a hotspot? Thanks
❤❤❤
Very nice. I’ll have to go check this bridge out
Could be a little bit more interesting, if you would show, how really grid problems looks like, and not only good grid state. Because so, people could not really understand, for what you need such method of inspection.
This inspection strategy is a matter of maintenance. The purpose is to spot developing problems.
@@libitronaerialdroneservice In this video the speaker speaks about much advantages by inspections and searching of grid problems, by using of such methods, like drone with visual and thermal camera. But video doesnt show this advantages, how this looks like. We see only new grid in good shape, without some problems, without demonstration of advantages and so on. I expected to see, for example damaged insulator, where in visual camera is nothing to detect, but in thermal camera this insulator is shining like lamp from warmth. To see bad distributed power on lines, which have different temperatures, too small dimensioned or damaged transformer, which is very hot, and so on.
4:54 has a damaged field side terminator, probably no thermal signature yet but an experienced eye could report it, create a work order, or being so new have the contractor who built it make warranty repairs before its a real problem.@@konstantinhuwa3064
Why are these inspections necessary? And if company doesn’t do it is it wrong on there part? They it’s to expensive to change rotten poles and just fit as they fall
Preventative.
These inspections can catch what roll-by line patrols can't: loose tiewires, broken strands on linewire, broken insulators, failing equipment, or loose hardware. Even vegetation requiring trimming.
Amazing shots 😊
Glad you enjoyed
We need a stadium like this at Montreal 😢
Yeah you do. Montreal has one of the worst stadiums
...and in Calgary.
Awesome work!
Thanks.
Which UAV and payload was used during this video ?
Our work Horse for this type of inspection is the M210 RTK with an X5S and 45mm lens and a Zenmuse XTR Thermal. We also use a Z30 very commonly, but since our usual procedure is to have simultaneous RGB and Thermal, the X5S is usually mounted. Some people will argue that the XT2 may be a better camera. It would offer some benefit but over all we like the XTR mainly because it is the best mapping Thermal camera we have used to date. We map a lot of commercial buildings. The sensor in the XTR is fantastic. And we also use the same RGB and thermal video for the roof inspection process. It works even more effectively with the roof inspections. Having said all of that, if our inspection type was a little different or if we were mapping the lines, then we would almost certainly be using an M300 with A LiDar set up. Mapping lines with RGB is very difficult to get the lines to produce well in the models. RGB is fine for an ortho, but not for a model in our experience. Maybe someone else is able to pull it off, but we have not in a satisfactory way. The M30 is also an excellent choice and something we are considering to try out.
what's the software used for processing the Images
Well there was no mapping or orthomosaics but rather just video and photographs, both RGB and Thermal. Flir studio for thermal analysis and premiere pro for putting a video together is all.
I`m in a home inspection (facade) small business. Really liked the digital twin for reporting issues and reports for customers. I don`t have the necessity for asset managing. Whatou would be the ideal drone/software to work under this scenario? Most of soft. aims asset management and have prohibitive prices for small business inspection. Great Video!
Ideal drone ..... seems like an easy question but it is not really. If I understand you well enough, you are looking for a thermal solution for inspections including facade. For most of the inspections you will be fine with a relative measurement because you will either be trying to identify insulation issues or water issues. The insulation issues are a bit tricky without a radiometric camera however even though relative temps show you where there is a change in temp. I find myself using the radiometric thermal for those inspections because the thermal output display just appears to be a dramatic difference when in most cases that is not correct. So I would say at minimum you have to have a thermal setup that can provide at least a temperature legend so you can identify what each display colour represents. So I think a good drone for you is one that can provide at the very least that information. It is very easy to just name a drone but I think you should do your homework and decide what model suits you. I am just offering my opinion on minimum specs. The truth is that adding a Vue model to a drone is a great option even though it will likely end up in a fixed position. I see those coming up for sale all the time in the Flir Facebook groups. The thermal decision may be more important that the RGB since most drones will work for the inspection. What you do have to do is make sure that the drone is compatible with the mission planning software that you choose. I think drone harmony is a very good platform for facade inspections but this is another thing that is very fluid and changes so fast. The is all a very long answer to finally say that you have to do your homework. I hope my intention is clear in my answer and I wish you all the best.
gorgeous stadium
It really is nice.
Please what drone did you use to capture the tower in this video
We like the DJI M210 and M300 for inspections. We like the payload options and find them to be incredibly stable and reliable. They are also much easier to keep an eye on to comply with VLOS regulations than smaller drones. The inspection in this video was performed with an M210 V2. Thanks for watching and the question.
I've used the DJI Mini 2 for tower shots, cheap and low risk. Excellent quality 4K 30fps video if you don't need mechanical zoom 👍
Is this a proprietary software for the autonomous mission plan?
@@mbs7567 Workflow evolves with drone development. At the time this video was made, we flew manual missions and recorded the mission. Then it was repeatable. Since this time, we are starting to use the Autel Max 4T drone. We are developing a workflow for that drone.
