I fell in love with the mountains of Northern Thailand... [Chiang Rai at its best]
Chiang Rai is such a special place. It borders one of the least traveled gems of Southeast Asia and has so much mystery to it all. We gave it our best to catch the most beautiful sunrise in Asia, but the fog was so dense and followed us everywhere we went. Which turned out to be a good thing...

Don't skip these temples in Chiang Rai! (TOP 3)
Переглядів 14921 день тому
Chiang Rai is such a beautiful province next to the Laos border, northwest of Chiang Mai. It's home to amazing Lanna culture and food, and three of some of the most remarkable temples in Thailand. Next time you're anywhere near the North, make sure to check these out during your trip! White Temple artist - Chalermchai Kositpipat
Thailand is awesome! (Living in Chiang Mai) Hmong Mountain Coffee, Pai, and Bangkok Day Trip.

Join me this week as I travel around Thailand from my home in Chiang Mai! I take a day trip to Bangkok, check out a local Hmong Village, and head up to Pai for a weekend. These are all easy things to do if you live in Chiang Mai, even traveling to Bangkok for a morning meeting is super doable!
STRANDED in Brunei... no phone, no plan [solo travel story]

Since moving to Thailand and living in Chiang Mai, traveling to new countries became a big priority of ours. I've always been intrigued by those smaller countries I know nothing about. Brunei was always one of them, having lived in the Philippines twice before, it was so close yet for some reason I just never went. This time, I'm glad I did! I was hoping to focus on finding jungle durian in Bor...
I tried the CONTRABAND fruit of Malaysia...

I always thought Thailand was the Land of Durian, after all that is where I was introduced to it when I was young. I've never actually tried any Malaysian tree-ripened Durian until now, and wow was I shocked. These definitely weren't like Thai Durian at all. Which country does it better? I can't say, because they're just so different! But I do know... if you want to upset some people with the s...

Thanks for joining me on my journey from Chiang Mai to Pai! Booked a ticket without any plans or knowledge of the area and had such a great time. Highly recommend to spend a few days here at least on your next trip to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai! There's so much more to do that I'll have to return for next time.
I sold EVERYTHING and moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand! (My Story)

I'm Michael, a digital entrepreneur turned nomad. During COVID both my wife and I both quit our jobs and started our own online businesses. Mine in e-commerce, and my wife's in online fitness and travel. It was a dream come true, living in San Diego and free from corporate 9-5's (more like, 6-10's). Last month we took an even bigger leap, to sell everything we own and move to Chiang Mai, Northe...
Central Coast Halibut- Kayak Fishing!

Hit some waves and the halibut grounds behind them and ended up with a very successful trip. Couldn't make live bait but it turns out they didn't need it.
Are you half thai
Interesting upload. Im torn between Bangkok and Chiang Mai to move to 2025.
What exactly does a "Digital Entrepreneur" actually do? That's a really broad title for a person who lives and works in a foreign country.
There's a lot of ways to create and run online businesses. I have one company that works primarily in digital products (software for businesses) and physical products (direct to consumer). It's broad because I don't do just one thing if that makes sense
I was born in thailand grew up in Australia and lived in brunei for awhile. I loved brunei, even joined a netball team 😂
The mountains touching the clouds... what an amazing place. I'd love to visit one day
I absolutely love that you showed the snake and then said "They do bite" almost like there is a bit of a story...
Lol maybe...
Looks so good! I had no idea that they did flights of durian, just like whiskey or wine! absolutely amazing
This was wonderful video. Glad I found this .
Appreciate the kind words!!
Haven't tried black thorn yet. Too expensive for now.
Musang King is so so delicious....durian kampung is also delicious..
Yeah every variety is so different. It's nice when places can give samples, sometimes your favorite will be one you didn't expect!
I’ve been to Thailand about 10 times. 7 times to Chiangmai. Haven’t made the big move yet. The only things that make me hesitate is the tourist crowds and the feb/April smokey season
Definitely valid points. Chiang Mai is ideal for living 8 months out of the year (smoke didn't go away until the rain started to fall as late as end of May). This coming year we will definitely be exploring different places to alternate between, I hear De Nang is getting quite popular with the CM folks
Beautiful images! Can't wait to return to Chiang Rai at the end of the year!
Thank you!!
❤
most bruneian have car so we don't really need scooter or motorcycle.
welcome to brunei 😊
Welcome to brunei, the arabic writing you see everywhere, is literally transliteration of words from malay in alphabet to arabic, in arabic font or we call it jawi, of course some english words are also translated into malay but in jawi writings, For example, when you see the SULTAN in alphabet, the jawi/arabic writing and pronounciation is SULTAN also, unless its in english like PIZZA HUT, it will be translated into malay word and written in jawi (the malay word is PONDOK PIZZA)
This is very interesting, I've never seen it before!
congrats, i m sure u heard of the new THAI Tax law this year , if foreigners living in Thai for over 180 days, u have to file Tax return and potential repatriation tax, how would that affect yur finance.
No problem with how US handles foreign earned income tax. I'd rather pay tax in Thailand too.
Fire dancers looked sick
Happy birthday Michael
World class footage 🤩
Nice!!! Learned a lot
Glad to hear it!
Looking forward to next video on Laos adventure
I love it. Nice place! 😭😭
That was such a great trip!🙌
Yes it was!
Ya done messed up 😂rookies
Love from India sir!!♥️🇮🇳
a part of me loves checking out your videos but another part of me wants to be spoiler free of Thailand and chiang mai lol its tough.
Hahahaha well soon ill have some other countries to talk about to keep your mind off of it for now!
great video man. Was that the DJI pocket 3 I saw at 4:06 ? I just got one of those recently. Such a game changer for vlogging and filming in general. Can't wait to bring it to Asia!
Oh for sure! Yeah my wife uses the osmo and I use an A7IV. Osmo definitely is more convenient especially for vertical shots
🎉🎉🎉
Cool video. That market was really interesting.
It's something else. Hard to figure what to eat, and every time you think you've found something good you also happen to be next to a durian stand. So difficult.
I was in Chiangmai the year Covid started. My family and I were in Thailand in December, spending Christmas break. We got home, and a week after New Year, Covid attacked. I do not know when I will be back in Chiangmai, or perhaps will never be, but I admire Chiangmai so much. Especially the highest mountain in Thailand, I was there. I loved every bit of experience I had in Chiangmai.
Doi Inanthon!! Yes, I really hope you can make it back at some point. If not Chiang Mai in particular, Thailand in general.
Hey man, best of luck to you. Living my dream! I am on the exact same mission. I am also half thai and would love to know how you are finding acquiring thai citizenship? I’m trying as we speak. But I am told I have to serve in the army for 2 years (I am 26), which isn’t a problem but I would love to know how you are going about it? I relate to you quite a bit just off what you were talking about in this video. Glad to have found you. Subscribed and interested in your journey 🙏
Hey!! Yes... I heard that was a possibility. I just turned 30, which means that's no longer a thing. But at 26, from what I'm reading, I think there's a chance you'd have to enlist. Just check the legitimate exemptions to see if you have the ability to skip enlisting, or not. I'm in a peculiar situation where paperwork was never filed when I was born, nor does my immediate family have currently valid papers as they emigrated a long time ago. So it's a journey! But thanks so much for your kind words!!
Still expensive now. July should be cheaper.
Hopefully! Thai prices are dropping a lot now (19 malay ringitt per kilo equivalent)
@@nofearnomad thai durian is not equal to malaysian durian
Well done. You ate musang king. The seed is flat.
Yes it looks like one of the few I've eaten where the seed is negligible like that
Best of luck man, I’ve been toying with the idea since 2 years now but I still haven’t mustered up the courage to make the move. I did visit a few times and loved it, I’d probably head south though due to the air quality issues up north in burning season If Chiang Mai didn’t suffer from the air quality problems, in my view it would be the best place for me to be in Chiang Mai
So good ❤
dude its not arabic language on the sign board, they are still malay but written using arabic characters, we call it 'jawi' writting
Oh wow I didn't realize that! So when you read it, it's got the malay pronounciation?
@@nofearnomad Correct! It’s Malay but in arabic script which we call “Jawi”. Old Malay uses Jawi character to write. So all malay can actually read it no matter if you’re malaysian or bruneian. We all can read that.
@Ezalian thanks so much for this clarification, you guys have so much unique history.
@@nofearnomadYea even in English also you can pronounce but write in jawi, such يو أر امازينڠ(you are amazing)
@@AGENTLS007 is this taught in school alongside malay?
“711 international beacon of sustenance “ lol facts. Great video bro. How exactly did you fight off the hornets ??
I couldn't. I have drone footage of me trying to land the drone but trying to fight hornets at the same time and it wasn't working well
Such a thoughtful dispatch from Chiang Mai Michael, enjoy every moment
Thank you so much!!!
Hope you enjoyed your stays in Brunei!
Definitely loved it!
@@nofearnomadAre you still in Brunei?
@@Norman_Lazarevich I returned to Thailand!
Congratulations on your huge move! Thank you for making this video.
Thank you so much!
Gotta watch the whole video later, definitely interesting country🙌
Totally worth a visit!
I didn't realized there were so many varieties of durian.
I think there's around 200-300 commercial varieties and then a bunch of indigenous "jungle" durian species! Look up the Sarawak jungle durians - I went there but they're not in season yet :(
About 200 in malaysia
In Malaysia durian has code eg d24, d101, d197 etc etc. So about 200 varieties
I’m 52 …. Thinking of making the BIG jump myself next year. It’s either stay in the 🇺🇸 (SoCal) and work till I die to “get by” or move overseas and retire in my 50s. Lots of anxiety with all the “stuff” to get rid or and selling the house and all 😬
Oh man I just went through all of that. You can start a side hustle or business and keep bringing in income one way or another while you're out here too! You'll be surprised with what you can do with even a fraction of California income too. But yes, that anxiety is a big hurdle. I realized a method, when I was deciding what to keep or what to donate/store. If you look at something you own, and hesitate on making a decision, just get rid of it. If you really need it you'd know. It helped SO much when we were trying to figure it all out, and realized when we got here that we STILL overpacked and so much stuff won't be put to use. But I guarantee you when you finally make the decision, you're not going to regret it for a second. Bringing novelty back into your life is an incredible thing.
@@nofearnomadfor me I’m dreading leaving home, it’s my ancestral home, my family has lived here since about 4 generations now
@DiogenesTheFrog yeah I can imagine that's pretty rough. You could just come out initially for 4-6 weeks, and towards the end of it touch base and see how you're feeling then? Having a lot of unknowns is harder to figure out but that baby step could affirm your decision either way (we did this in October)
burning is february to april...
Check again!
For those hiking boots go to Decathalon Chiang Mai.
They didn't have size 13.5 :(
2 years ago my wife of 37 years died. I had 3 heart attacks her last week then open heart surgery. 7 months later I had sold our house, given away my possessions and moved to CM. It's doable.
Thank you for sharing that. I'm so sorry to hear you went through all of that. I'm glad you're in this place now and I sincerely wish you the best.
@@nofearnomad Good luck. I worked in SE Asia for 20 years so I knew it was what I wanted.
😢❤
I lived in CM for a few years but I left when I realized Thais are xenophobic. You will NEVER make any Thai friends because they want nothing to do with foreigners (unless they can get something from you). Imagine living in a place where you will never have any real friends. Thailand is not a country where foreigners can build a real future. There are other countries where the people are more genuine. Don't fall for the fake Thai smile. They only smile to get your money. As as half Thai you will be looked down on. If you understand Thai you will hear people making remarks about you every day. Finally, you are not a "digital entrepreneur." You work online. You are misusing the definition of entrepreneur. You run a small business. It's that simple, kid.
Most ppl won't know or care. Puxxy and fake grins solve all issues
I've been here for 9 months and will stay for the rest of m y life
I love to hear that!!! I'm so happy to be back and plan to do the same.
Enjoy your adventure in Th. and all SEA 🎉
Thank you! Will do!
