That's exactly what we have experienced as we try to keep an 8x12' flying atop our 25' feed barn with 17' flag pole above ridge cap...... We've spent 90 to 150 buck's on flags with none lasting more than a year here in Central, NC...... I know it's been a year since your comment but if you could suggest "the best" flag available would be appreciated...... Another negative to a short lived flag flown at this height is the labor and expense of hiring a bucket truck operator to replace the flag..... And well Sir I know you know this..... Respectfully......

BTW I can imagine your flag still looks beautiful! That’s what my channel is all about. So for a flag that size or any size for that matter, always go for a lock stitch flag. Meaning all the seams are lock stitched together. The beauty of a lock stitch is even if the stripes are starting to separate the stitch won’t keep unraveling. A chain stitch completely falls apart once broken. If your flagpole can take the abuse and you have the extra dollar to spend, I highly recommend a 2 ply spun polyester flag. They’re very heavy but last long. Annin or flags.com is the best I’ve seen so far and I ve been flying flags for over twenty years.

I had my neighbor with bucket truck lined up to replace the flag -90% worn and gone flag- with one I've had since the week of 911 -long n possible strange but true story- You see I've flown ultralites/powered parachutes for 3 decade's and they're slow at 25-35 mph and make a neat tow vehicle and I have a friend and mentor whom's a member of VIR/Virginia International Race track and being an Orthodontist with a passion for racing he/Bill was tight with the track owner's and manager's and of course treating their kid's at a discount or maybe for free cemented these relationships...... Back in 2000/2001 I had flown most of these folk's and kid's in my ultralite and hung out with Bill at the track..... I think it was Bill knowing I towed flags n banners that suggested to the track to have me tow the US 🇺🇸 at the upcoming AMA/motorcycle race they had scheduled and I agreed and they gave me a shiny new 8×12 flag to tow over that event...... Unfortunately the race was scheduled for the Sunday after 911 and most all US aircraft was grounded and I didn't fly and they told me to keep the flag..... As I started to mount this flag on my spare 17'x2" dia pvc flag pole I realized that my eventual towing of it and two decade's storage had taken some toll on it and reckoned it would not last long and I texted my neighbor in that regard...... That flag towed very well over events with maybe 10lbs pull against my aircraft...... I had the flag wrapped around a light stick that I would chunk beneath the aircraft and unfurl to a 100' behind the machine, at the end of the flight I would make a low pass and unhitch the towline and it would fall to the ground and it worked well albeit pained me to drop the flag on the ground...... My dad and uncle's enlisted in the army during WWII and my uncle Willie was kia in Germany by Hitlers 88 cannon shrapnel wound...... My ancestors said losing uncle Willie was like two death's in the family/community as they received word of his death and came together to grieve and then came together again when they received his body...... Here on the farm/Herefords livestock farm the flag is an indispensable wind indicator for my flying ventures, burning, spraying herbicides and painting..... But we fly it mainly for Uncle Willie and all the soldiers lost and injured as well as to show respect for our God giving freedom's so often taken for granted.......

Don't forget to get polyester. Supposed to be better than nylon. BTW, if I had to rent a bucket truck to change the flag, I think I'd put up a separate pole instead. Be cheaper in the long run. Not to mention you have a big lightening rod on your barn if the pole is aluminium. 😀 Those thunderstorms here in Carolina can be intense.

LOL SAME! ONE TIME MEL ACCIDENTALLY OPENEND THE WINDOW WHEN WE WERE CHOOSING A CAR AND ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN XD I TOLD THE CAR DEALERSHIP OWNER THAT MEL LOST HER FLAG
