Improving GP Referrals and X-Ray Interpretation for Hip Disorders: A Guide for Practitioners
Jonathan Hutt discusses the importance of clear communication when referring patients for hip assessments, particularly for busy GPs. He emphasizes that GPs prefer direct guidance on what to do, rather than general opinions, and suggests that physical therapists could be more specific in their referral requests, such as recommending specific screenings. Hutt also highlights the value of X-rays as an initial tool for diagnosing both arthritic and non-arthritic hip issues, although challenges can arise when mild conditions like dysplasia are missed. He encourages practitioners, including physical therapists, to develop a basic understanding of X-ray interpretation to help identify subtle pathologies.

Jonathan Hutt is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Specialist Hip Surgeon - he is one of only a few surgeons in the UK who specialise in all aspects of hip surgery. He studied medicine at New College, Oxford and Imperial College before completing his orthopaedic training in London. This was followed by fellowship training in lower limb reconstruction at the Université de Montréal in Canada and in young adult hip surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. In 2022 he was awarded the prestigious Rothman-Ranawat travelling fellowship by the American Hip Society.
His specialist interests are in all aspects of hip surgery. He is experienced in advanced joint preservation techniques such as minimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy and hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) as well as hip reconstruction for other causes of hip pain in young patients. When preservation of the joint is not possible, he is experienced in hip replacement using both the direct anterior (DAA) and posterior approaches to the hip. He has a particular interest in young patients with hip problems and joint replacement in active individuals. He is involved in innovation and research in advanced hip preservation techniques as well as emerging hip replacement technology and implants to improve patient outcomes.

This is very important & useful information! Thank you so much for uploading this!!! 🙏
Laurie the legend
5000mcg per week
Very informative and helpful for my electrotherapy exam - I’d love to hear some more contraindications to make this an even more useful revision tool👏🏾
9'15 foam roll FR vs manual therapy MT : FR = compression of fascia sheath vs MT = compression + sliding forward. Why is there not any sliding forward with a FR ? I'ld say that my skin and underneath are sliding on my FR too !
This is interesting ❤
Can you help people with MdDS? I have been suffering for 6 and a half years. It has destroyed me. Got it from a night flight.
Brilliant as usual
Does Laurie Hartman teach this please?
Love this channel. I want to do a course like this please ❤
Fantastic
Laurie is a legend. Im booking his 2025 course in Swansea University
I don’t know if chiropractic stuff works that well for some things like fascia as you’re trying to force change rather than retrain the nervous system.
20 years as a chiropractic assistant for a doctor that used only activation. I am not allowed to use a thrust but I know if I can help a client position a joint so that is not subluxated the nervous system will usually recognize how hold it there. I have seen the chiropractor hurt by a demonstration of a technique and have to take several days to reduce the muscle guarding that was the result.
Can you help me... I have a problem since 2 to 3 years my whole body muscles specially of calf, thigh and hip are seperating apart from bones.... And I'm only 18 years old.. Can you please tell me the reason of this and solution to 🙏... Once for 1 and 1.5 years before 3 years.. I have a sleeping disorder when i was in 9th class.. Now in 12th..so one night i can, t sleep and continuesly going to washroom.. And my heart beat was very fast.. And i was afraid of not sleeping that night and next morning to i can, t sleep.. And i was out of my mind.. Just want to sleep but can, t.. And since every night slept only for 1 or less then one hour for more than one years.. After that my these problem happens.. I want sol. I am an defence aspirant i want to join my army and for that i must to be phyiscally fit i can, t... Please help! 😢💔
It is so sad to hear Can you tell me more about your problem? What do you by "seperating apart from bones"? Do they feel painful or they cannot do anything? If they hurt, is it when it is on load or hurt in general? Your heart beat is so fast probably because of lack of sleep
Yk I’m kinda stuck in life, I want to be better but every time I get close my mhe pushes me back.
People keep lying to themselvs believing this carnivore diet BS

Fantastic
I love this channel 🤩
Nice insight
Diagnosed with ADHD and recently with hEDS. Before my hEDS diagnosis I went in to labor early with my daughter twice. When finally it came time to have her she wouldn’t turn on her own. C-section. The epidural didn’t take. They had to also perform a spinal. I’m not sure what happened. But for 17 years my organs feel like they’re all in the wrong position. Idk. Just life with hEDS I guess. (Sublexed my thumb today closing a loaf of bread)
Fantastic
Fantastic
God he is amazing

This type of observation is such an important skill to learn. From my chiropractic x-ray work this would be classified as a left posterior antalgic lean. Fixation of left quadratus lumborum and counter strain of the right superficial front line. Often indicative of a lumbar disc protrusion protective reflex but can have many other causes. Functional scoliosis standing on right leg but not on left leg. instead right arm is abducted to compensate for the left lean. Often the case would be presented to me as right shoulder pain due to the repetitive abduction. Also often with frustration that no treatment has prevented return of the shoulder pain.
First time here on this channel and i enjoyed this so very much! I enjoyed both you and your guest, I hope Dr. Robert cab return! Im typing this as I'm lying down with the foam roller 😅 Most informative
what about if it's the bone that connects to the muscle that breaks off?
I was hoping he would have brought up the concern about blood sugar not entering cells as well because of certain statins more than others, but the others might be riskier elsewhere. I got my BS numbers to a good place and don!t want to turn diabetes..
Totally unexpected, I just realized that Mario updated his favorite way to tackle ED and it's crazy! Although what he previously talked about was pretty decent, it was difficult to follow, I just go'ogled the latest by Mario Volpstein, it's so much simpler and potent now!
I'm finding a large % of the population deficient in B12 after c o v i d jabs. Many many symptoms of deficiency.
I haven’t seen any support yet😢
Its better to massage from down to up! Bad technique
Great to see Laurie in action again, a master at work!
I am amazed to hear this. I hope its true so i can stop worrying
I give your German pronunciation 7/10.
We will always be with you
Funny, until recently I hadn't realized that Mario updated his favorite way to tackle ED and it's a relief! Although what he previously suggested was pretty good, it was a real pain to follow... I just go'ogled the latest in Mario's Thunderous Erections, it's so much easier and potent now!
dr.Robert Schleip is such a passionate man !! I could listen to him for days and not be bored because of his joy, enthuziasm, passion.
Thanks. Very interesting information 👍
How to order the brace sir
Speak to your local osteopath. :)
After 2 fittings at nhs orthotics the logo bracket still moves and twists to front and away from leg once fastened and stand up. Obviously this negates the benefit. This never happened with my older model! Should I go for a third fitting and have measurements checked or just find a private professional?
Sorted Ossur staff at my follow up appointment outcome..my leg not suitable for new unloader new version of my original ordered ...excellent service!!!
I'm a Nutritional Therapist, Optimal Blood Chemistry Analyst and Lymphatic Detoxification Therapist. There are SO MANY MORE supplements than what you mentioned, that have been proven to help with pain issues that I've been trained to use! I strongly doubt that your education utilizes training in this area! You must have gone to similar medical school as to those in USA. Nutritional medicine, Applied Clinical Nutrition is NOT taught nor is it required in US medical schools. Sad to say! My career in this has been extremely rewarding because we first do no harm, and use no Rx drugs to mask pain. Our results speak to our success and reason for our practice!
So, WHERE CAN WE FIND LOCAL PRACTITIONERS WHO ARE TRAINED IN THESE TECHNIQUE S? PLEASE REPLY 🙏
This is an educational channel, CPD for Osteopaths and Chiropractors. Sorry we can't help, but try your local clinics.
As far as topic of CBD and THC topical ointment for pain... I have broken my back as teen and in 60s. NOTHING in the pharmaceutical world works as well as these natural products do! No mental depressive affects at all! No "high" effects! Just the BEST PAIN RELIEF AVAILABLE! I hope they get their funding for their own study! Yes, Osteopathic adjustments are fabulous, too!
I'm with you. Different fascia, ligament and soft tissue injuries but homeopathic and cannabinoids specifically cbd/thc/cbn combos have saved me and heals me. I can't take corporate pharmaceuticals anymore.
Long term memory in fascia - there is a huge difference between state dependant memory and suggesting that memories are actually stored in fascia. Any touch or context can elicit a memory. Hebbian learning, predictive processing and hypothalamic processes amongst others are involved. Cell and tissue memory and the storage of trauma memories are two different things. If fascia stores memory, how does it do this? Every cell has memory to do something even if thats programmed apoptosis. NGF has memory of repair as does the general immune system for immunity. To suggest that fascia stores memories is reductionist never mind wild and unsubstantiated claims. Robert agreed with your comment on nociceptive feedback - but skirted over the how? Pain isn't directly related to injury and can occur in the absence of injury - so where do nociceptors come in? They transmit potential harm and also social touch - so these caress fibres and trauma storage is a bit of a far reach.
