Taking the new Mayan Train (Tren Maya) in Mexico! How to get tickets and what to expect...
El Tren Maya (the Mayan Train) is a $20-billion rail route that began operations in December 2023. Connecting dozens of must-see sights across the Yucatán peninsula, it spans 1,554-kilometers or 966 miles.
The goal is to link famous tourist destinations in the Caribbean with lesser-known attractions inland, while highlighting the historic Mayan sites that give the train its name. 42 trains will carry up to three million passengers a year.
This video shows you how to buy tickets and what to expect when you take your first ride on the Tren Maya.

The free big green bus goes to all terminals (meaning 2, 3 and 4) so look for the Tren Maya signs outside each terminal. The bus then goes straight to the Tren Maya station. It doesn't run all day but rather runs when there's a train coming or going. The schedule will be on the sign boards outside the Airport Terminal. There is also an ADO bus from Cancun main bus station that goes to the Tren Maya station (but does not go to the airport) that costs about 130 pesos. There is no First Class lounge for Clase Premier passengers at the Cancun Tren Maya station or in fact any lounge, it's an odd station with a giant roof and platforms under it. Don't think of Clase Premier as a luxury experience, it's a nicer experience, I recommend it but it's not luxury.

Thank you for posting this. I just learned about this train today, when I was researching travel options on how to get to Palenque. I've wanted to visit Palenque for years now, but I've not moved it up my priority list because it seems like it has been very difficult to reach for those of us in the US. This train seems like an answered prayer. And I've heard great things about Merida and Valladolid, too, so I guess those cities also should be included in a Southern Mexico trip. (No interest in the Caribbean beach towns ... no interest in beach towns anywhere ... just not my thing. Your video makes it seem like Cancun is the only place on the train route to be avoided. I'm OK with that.) Palenque has just zoomed up my list of places I want (and can) to visit. Way up!

"But the new trains, which have led lighting, wider aisles, and usb ports for passengers, have also been hit by software problems, such as internal doors that won’t open, and software failures that, for example, suggest there are problems with the brakes. The problems are causing delays and cancellations. Alstom’s customer director Hans Blaauw said the problems are part of normal “teething problems” besetting the introduction of any new train. “Every country has a different rail system and we adapt out trains to the local demands." No, this description from February of this year 2024 is not of the Mayan train, it is of the new trains that have just begun to provide service in the Netherlands. It takes about a year for a new train to have tested all its systems upon entering operation, and it is not until then that the train can begin to reach the maximum speed for which it is designed. There are people here complaining about the failures that the Mayan train has presented in the months that it has been in service, well, you have to travel more on other trains to form an opinion, because everywhere there are failures when it comes to brand new trains entering service. https : // w w w .dutchnews. nl /2024/02 / wasp-not-up-to-speed-as-new-trains-grind-to-a-halt/

What a terrible experience for a new train compared to the Brightline train that opened in Florida last year. Everyone knows this train was nowhere ready to open. So why was it opened? Because AMLO wanted the grand opening to occur while he was still in office even if it wasn't ready. Shameful. The locations of the stations are ridiculous, too. No infrastructure to connect them to the nearby cities. Another badly implemented public project like the new airport at Santa Lucia where no foreign airline wants to use it because it's also in a bad location. That project was also rushed instead of doing it correctly.

Brightline in Florida? Of course it can't compare to El Tren Maya. It is tantamount to remarking that Texan Oil Refineries are way superb than Dos Bocas. Why? Because they ( Brightline and/ or Dos Bocas) are not constantly being sabotaged or incessantly attacked ( literally) by the Mexican government. If we Mexicans did this, rest assured USA 👹 would have declared war on us. Again, this shows us that USA will always keep us beaneath them so that we could never ascend to the pinnacle of superiority. We will always be inferior Mexicans.
