RIP Jimmy Carroll, this song’s original recording artist. Passed away 12/17/18
Did you know Jimmy ( Billy )? How did you learn about this?
@@bluevelvetbully6873 Sadly, I never got to meet him. When I was about 9 years old(1970), my uncle gave me a stack of old, very well-worn 45s. In that stack was a copy of Jimmy’s “Big Green Car” which I loved..and played about a million times…until a accidentally broke it. Fast forward 2-3 decades…and I was listening to the song again here on UA-cam. Among the comments was one that said “This is my uncle”. Excited that Carroll was possibly still living, I felt inclined to contact this person to tell him my “Big Green Car” story. Turns out it was indeed Carroll’s nephew. He told me that Jimmy was still living , but was in declining health…but that he(Jimmy) would love hearing my story. So he graciously relayed my story to Jimmy himself. There was brief discussions about the possibly of me driving up (to Tenn. as I recall) to meet Carroll in person and ask him to sign my new copy(thanks EBay) of “Big Green Car”. However, time wasn’t on our side and he passed away before I could go. When he died, his nephew sent me the sad news. I was so grateful that Jimmy at least knew how much his record meant to me. I do I think “Big Green Car” was his only record but it meant a lot to me. If not for his kind nephew, I would’ve never known a single thing about Jimmy Carroll. So glad we crossed paths.
@@bluevelvetbully6873 Also….I’m not exactly sure why his record reads(I think) “Billy Carroll”. Possibly just his stage name or middle name. Not sure, but my understanding is that he went by “Jimmy”.
@@smittysmat7826 I located him years ago - talked about Roy Moss alot. Said he was kicked off the labels due to his bad drinking. I was looking for other rab guys and his neighbors told me about him. So I called him up etc. He was kinda hiding I think - didn't want to be found. Yes, he knew about the Polecats - don't think he was neither impressed nor angry. I made the mistake of making fun of people making fun of southern people - he took it the wrong way.
Polecats 💋💋💖💖👍👍
This stuff reminds me of fighting skinheads and punks and just about anyone else if you dressed hep cat back then.Rockin forever.
hey man we fought for the right to rock
Yeah I did that shit as well. Shits and giggles 👍
Luchemos contra el reggaeton y que vuelva el rockabilly @@diamondmunoz7267
Now this is what rockabilly's about...
MINABLE......
fantastic.
Showwaddy what???? hahahahaaaaaa man, you are an humorist. Only since the humoristic point of wiew I can answer to you. Are you calling Showwadaddy to Matchbox???. Man if you did it you need see the thing in other perspective. Have a good day¡¡
You are a troll, a simple troll and your words said all about you. You not respect people that like other great bands and you only talk about Neo-Rockabilly. You only talk about cars, good cars obviously, but you forget music. And now are saying bad words about Teds, Rockers n people of Europe, well, I see the Rock n Roll like a worlwide movement, any problem in that?? and I dont know what fuck happen with my other coments, so if you dont like it dont read it, is a real easy solution¡¡
What do I know about Teds??? Well from 1976 till 1978 I was a Teddy Boy, but then got into Rockabilly and Neo in 78 and have been Rockin ever since. I've had a myriad of 50's cars and owned two Triton's and one Tribsa during my Rocker years, so pal know a dam lot more then you do. Your writing gives you away, you aint British, so aint got a friggin clue about Teds. Seen you euro teds with your plastic Showaddywaddy style drapes, dam awful, embarrassment to the rockin scene.
I prefer one million of times the original song ``Big green car´´ and not this cover¡¡¡. ``Hot rod rumble´´ not bad instrumental it its, also good the band but I prefer Crazy Cavan and the Rythm Rockers, the Rapiers, and yes 70s Rockin Movement was the better times for the REAL ROCK N ROLL after the fifties. Teds only old people??? hahahahahaha, are you kidding me??? what do you know about teds and rockers??? do you know the Ted Do and the Wildest Cats in Town?.. You need listen more Rock n Roll
Northem Ted76 I was there at the time and you are chatting shit.
The stray cats did more cover songs then the Polecats, and the Polecats have always been more popular then the stray cats on the rockin scene, the stray cats were a commercial band appealing to the masses, whilst the polecats were and are a true rockin band.
Your name says it all "Northern Ted" been on the Rockin scen since the 70's and always thought teds were the most inward looking street culture to have ever existed, no wonder your reduced to old men with comb overs.
I prefer1.0000 times before the original fifties Rockabilly song and not this cover. Cant understand how people like this band.
Northem Ted76 because they are arsekickingly good especially live.
Because they were good live , and it's fucking grim up north
Both great bands, both cover bands, and both wrote their own material. the difference was and is the Stray Cats were a commercial band, whereas the Polecats stayed true to their Rockin roots. the stray cats slowed the tempo down and changed the beat to appeal to a wider audience whereas the Polecats kept it true, indeed the Polecats still play pubs with a few hundred people in, so keeping true to their roots and close to the Rockin crowd, unlike the stray cats who require big audiences to play
Stray cats never did this song. Jimmy Carroll originally did it. Both the stray cats and these guys did heaps of covers as well as originals
fucking EPIC!
This band will be HUGE!
worlds cutest man!
i was there and it was an epic night for 20 bucks
i need to know the name of this song!!
Need name and song please
@brkyrfaze Why's that? Is it because unlike you "she' doesn't swallow whole, stinking turds like this? If this pile of shite was by Sinitta or anyone else from the Stock, Aitken & Waterman stable, - and yes the comparison is entirely valid - you would quite rightly dismiss it for the substandard dross that it is. Now, tell me who the music snob is!
yeah, the smiths are good...you can really tell from the energy surging through the crowd at 1:32-1:40
wish gary was still with moz
@kimberly9000 why mention it?
@felunt What!?
love
Been a fan since 1983 saw them live in 85 at Derngate Northampton all seating venue. Nobody sat. Seems like yesterday.
wooohhhhoooo!!!!!!!!!! gays at its best !!!!!
@Certex
@kimberly9000 not gay, virgin i think
@leisurelydinner It's not really from one but it was released around the album Low-Life (which is their best album). It's on substance
I really dig this band & that goes for the song too...luv it! I'd love to meet these guys over The Backstreet Boys anyday, there is something about watching & listening these punks giving this Rockbilly hit a good twang for it's money. I 'll have to put this amoungst my personal favorites right here & right now. I really dig the hair styles these guys sport as well as their dress code & then above it all they just don't just stand there like the Beatles and sing Ya Ya Ya, they twitch baby.
3 dislikes!!! really??????
The Hacienda a lengent.
Best song off of Pretty in Pink!
I can see Duckie pulling a wheelie on his bike. 'I don't drink and drive; that's why I ride a bike' !!!
Gary is hot...
wow these guys got so high spirited since the lead singer left...Just goes to show, sometimes to elevate moral just get rid of the depressed people
