Thank you! The real match will be a "Ryder Cup" like format, where each Club Champ is the "Captain" and gets a "Captains Pick" to select a playing partner. For this first year's cup, Balboa Park Champ Mike Mehran has chosen Josh Vanduyn and Torrey Pines Champ Nik Neal has chosen Matt Regan. We are working with the board members of the Torrey Pines Golf Club to confirm the official match rules and scoring format, but have proposed the "5 points per round" as outlined in the episodes already published. As soon as we have the details worked out, my subscribers will be the first to know :)

Yes! The upcoming watch will consist of two rounds - one at Balboa one at Torrey Pines. We are hoping the Torrey Pines round will be played on the South Course, but we are waiting for final confirmation. indeed, Nik Neal is human! Granted, the 6th hole at Balboa is one of the most difficult par-3's on the planet.

Pace of play is extremely important to our golf club. I always make sure to keep up with the golfers, as opposed to having the golfers wait for the videographer. For this specific round, we finished in 3 hours and 45 minutes for all 18 holes 💪🏃💨

He improved the lie of the area he dropped. Didn’t take full relief and the ball rolled forward. Two stroke penalty and re hit from the correct spot. I promise you aren’t as good at golf as you think you are. And you probably don’t hole all your puts.

I can confirm, the drop was definitely legit. Chris is not just a "rule follower", but also one of the best golfers around with a current USGA Index of +0.5. While we like to kid him for "being the guy that knows all the rules", the bottom line is that he is a class act both on and off the golf course. EDITED - I stand corrected, this drop was not legal, but only because the back of his right heel was still touching the path after the drop (barely though, I had to zoom in on the original long form "Two Clubs and a Putter" video to see it. The timestamp to see this moment in that video is 10:26 ).

@@joshwins13 His heel is on the cart path. He did not take complete relief.

@@brad2171 I agree - it seemed like his initial drop didn’t give him enough relief, and he could have “re-dropped” due to the cart path still obstructing his stance. He was certainly “allowed” to hit his ball after that initial drop, even if his feet were touching the cart path. I think he was happy with the lie after the first drop, so elected not to do it again, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ll have to ask :)

@@joshwins13 no, you must take complete relief, unless the player will incur a penalty. You cannot have your feet on the path after taking relief. It happened to Freddy Couples in A US Open cost him the tournament. If your buddy is scratch he should know this.

@tanner Technically you are incorrect. No you can't & don't. The rule states the ball "may roll" up to a club length. You don't get to just go that far after establishing the closest point of relief. The guy did a great job of executing the rule.✌️

@@UnLikeU “The player can drop a ball within one club length of the nearest point of complete relief, which is the spot where the cart path no longer interferes with their swing or stance.” The ball can roll up to 2 club lengths away. Any NPR (nearest point of relief) drop gets one club length from that point, this is what I’ve always know and what google says 😂

Of course you get relief from the path... If you have to stand in the path to hit your ball it's an obstruction.

You get relief if you are standing on the path as well.

it does look a bit awkward, but he didn't go any closer to the hole. You can see Chris put down the ball marker (left of his left foot), and then drop on the "far side" (relative to the green) of the marker.

@@Carter-u5q The cart is actually on a cart path - though from this camera angle I totally see why you thought that! We do everything we can to keep this beautiful municipal golf course in great shape, and appreciate folks like you who also care!
