You can also collect gems by spending little or no raid medals. If the raid medal total is already or reaches 5,000 after the raid weekend. The extra raid medals are converted to gems. 1 gem is earned for each 100 raid medals. For instance, someone with a full raid medal storage of 5000 who earned around 1634 raid medals would earn 16 gems after raid weekend. While someone who spends a small amount of raid medals that had 4823 raid medals then earns 1634 raid medals would earn 14 gems. That's because the storage would only store 168 raid medals(5000 - 4832 = 168), which leaves 1466 extra raid medals(1634 - 168 = 1446). The best way to start this would be to not spend any raid medals for five raid weekends in a row. Then, when the raid medals reach 5,000, you can either decide not to spend any raid medals or just spend a some number of raid medals but not too much so that after raid weekend you'll end up with extra raid medals.
