The houses are just not as detailed as they used to be.
I have not purchased any new houses but I think it really depends on the house. Some that I saw out of the box were very nice. There were some that were a bit plain.
Definitely giving me a lot of inspiration and excited for spring and summer 2025
@@DigginandDoin Glad it provided inspiration 😁. I’m also planning out what I want to do for 2025. Happy gardening 🧑🌾
Seems like this garden season came and went entirely too fast. Maybe that’s how it is most of the time. It’s hard to say goodbye. Feels like you’re always starting over. Exciting and bitter sweet at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
I know what you mean - it’s a bittersweet feeling, but I am so excited to see what next year brings!
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. Your garden is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the good work. All the best on this journey
Thank you! Happy to have you on board! 😊
Wonderful and YES gonna try it.
That’s great! I think you will be amazed. Happy gardening 😊
I do the same. Learned this and I purposely buy the ones I like to do this with. They can be quite expensive but I don’t mind since I know I will have them year after year. Good seeing a video from you. 👍🏾👩🏾🌾
@@rbthegardennannyllc4219 Yeah, gardening in general can get a bit expensive so any money saving tips are great to learn. I was so happy to find out that it was so easy to overwinter them. I grew so many from seed this year so I’m looking forward to next year and having larger plants from the start.
Perfect timing. I pulled my geraniums out today and begonias to try to overwinter, but wasn't sure what to do with them. we shall see.
😊 Glad it may help. 😉
@@MonicaKatie worth a shot. I started these from seed.
@@BramptonGardener Ah, even more precious because you don’t have to start with a baby plant. I’ve done this method for my geraniums for several years. I lost some but that was because I had over watered them during the season so they already had way too much moisture and were starting to rot a bit even before storing. Otherwise all the rest survived just fine.
I think dahlias are the most beautiful flower ever created. They're just so perfect. So far, I haven't had the incentive to get plants I'll need to dig up every year. Boise 7a.
@@lesliekendall5668 I was about stop growing them but found that growing smaller ball varieties in grow bags was much easier to “dig” them out and store them.
@@MonicaKatie Very clever! Maybe I'll try that.
Just bought tulip and daffodil bulbs. Eden Bros 1 day only free shipping today. Got the snowdrop bulbs a couple days ago from that terrific bulb company that starts with a B that I can't pronounce. Your garden is still looking beautiful!!
@@lesliekendall5668 Thank you 😊 I’ve been considering adding snowdrops to my garden so I may check it out.
@@MonicaKatie The place with the snowdrops is something like van Borgedien company. Let me look it up. They have bulk bulbs very well priced.
@@MonicaKatie K. Van Bourgondien
So many flowers to the end! Our gardens are ready for their rest. Now we think seeds! Where did you get the nasturtiums seeds? 💐 Thanks for sharing.
@@TeresaByington Thanks 😊. It’s been a mixed year but still had some nice blooms which will be sad to see them go. Yes! Need to start planning next year’s garden and buying seeds. I got the nasturtium seeds from Baker Creek.
I'm going to give winter sewing a chance this year Joanne from Circleville Ohio
That's fantastic. I hope you have a great time with it. Happy gardening.
Do you rinse the brush between colors?
@@tbaker2517 I just swished it in a cup of water. Since the paint was watered down just a simple rinse seemed to do the trick.
Hi and thank you for your videos about winter sowing! I’d love more of them. I live in Sweden, zone 6b I think, and tried out winter sowing for the first time ever this mars and april with mostly great results. I also planted out a lot of the seedlings in chunks but a LOT later than you though, in the middle of june. Many of them where big enough to be planted out much earlier but my area was not prepared before then, and actually some seeds germinated in june- like the heucheras and they are still in pots. I sowed perennials for the most part and also some annuals, but the perennials gave better germination I would say. Have you tried out autumn sowing too? I thought I’d try it out and see the difference. 🌱🌸
Hello. Glad that you had success with the winter sowing method. I have not tried autumn sowing because our weather would be too hot for seedlings to be enclosed in a plastic jug. I did just throw out some seeds in late summer of some foxgloves so that they can winter over and hopefully will bloom in the spring. Happy gardening.
Thank you for this video! I feel silly, but I didn't realize I had to open the pods. I thought the "seeds" were just unusual and large, and wondered why they never sprouted. Oh boy!
@@froglet16 glad the video was helpful for you 😊
Very clever to use the golf tees to secure those little figurines! I always have trouble keeping them upright.
😉 works like a charm
Template won’t print only print at bottom of page.
I just checked the document and I am able to print it on my end. Please check the print settings to ensure that it is set to letter size and scale is default. Hope that works.
I'm disappointed you're not giving the name of the varieties you're showing I so wanted to know the name of the beautiful blue Veronica you showed Thanks
Sorry but that veronica was one I purchased in Walmart and it didn't have the variety name on it - just said "veronica". So I can't really tell you what kind it is. I think it kind of looks like "Wizard of Ahhs" variety.
I have Sea Holly that sprouted up in an oval garden bed - 6 plants. They are flopping over and look unsightly, but I love the plant for its unique look and how it nourishes so many insects. If I try to dig them out, I'm going to disturb the roots of neighbouring plants (correct?). It's late July, zone 7a. What would happen if I cut them back to the ground right now, until I can figure out what to do with them next spring - would they die, never to return, or would they start to regrow and then be hurt by the winter weather?
I have dug up sea holly roots from self seeding and potted up to give to some friends. It seem to do just fine, but I had done that in early spring. The neighboring plants seem to be fine - although I have removed a good amount of them from my garden as they also flop for me plus they are so pinchy. The past couple of years the deer (or rabbits maybe) have eaten the leaves at the bottom but it didn't seem to affect the plant at all and it still grew and flowered. I think this plant is pretty hardy and somewhat hard to kill. Remember they have a very deep tap root so you will need to dig down quite far. Hope that helps.
Love your video this will be my third year growing last year played around with the ws method your video will definitely help me with prep for next year. I am getting ready to do some brassicas for my fall garden. Thank you. This is truly a learning provess
Glad it was helpful! Happy gardening! 😊
Wow, cutest thing ever! 🥰
😉
So pretty it's all doing so well. I love the snaps. My coleus prefers to be in containers I find. I haven't seen any straw flowers self seeding this year, hmmm.
Thanks 😊. Yeah, my coleus in pots is doing so well.
what is the name of the tiny marigolds those are fabulous. love you garden
Thank you 😊. The marigolds with tiny yellow and orange flowers is called Lemon & Tangerine Gems Signet Marigold Happy gardening.
Thank you Monica. I learned to Winter Sow because of you and I just love, love it. 🌿💚🌿
Aw, that is so nice to hear. Thank you for your support 💚🥰
I just put a piece of paper towel in with my seeds to write the name of the bag contents and to keep everything dry. Excited to try saving from my new fancy delphs and see how they are
That works nicely too. Wishing you the best that your seeds collecting will give you beautiful new plants. 😊
They're so beautiful. Would love to have the self sowing.
I saw two new seedlings but they may have been eaten by the rabbits. The ones that survive are surrounded with chicken wire and I usually cut them back so I don't get them self seeding much.
Delphinium hate me. They never germinate even in WS. And the onse I've bought don't come back. Maybe they didn't get enough sun? Hate my clay. I also have bad luck with foxglove.
I am also growing in clay soil but the spot they are in drains pretty well and receives a good amount of sun with some shade in the afteroon. This year I couldn't get them to germinate in my WS but they were old seeds. Hopefully these will work better in my WS but I'm going to try and germinate them soon to plant in the fall.
@@MonicaKatie ohhh interesting. My seeds are super old by now hehege
These are really prickly....Deer resistant you bet!
Yes, they sure are pinchy! The deer (or perhaps rabbits) have eaten all the basel leaves but the flowers have never been eaten.
When do you transfer them out of the containers? I have a bunch of saved gallon jugs to do this with! Thanks
I usually plant all of my winter sowing containers in May. This year the only container I didn't plant out in the garden are my coneflowers. I took the whole container and planted it into a larger container so that the roots had more room to grow as well as get more nutrients from some fresh potting soil. Hope that helps.
I absolutely love foxglove. Thanks for info
Your welcome. I love how majestic these flower look in the garden. Happy gardening 😊
They spread like crazy. Good stiff forms in a bouquet. The blue is nt as blue as in the catalog photos. They are more silvery blue.
Yeah, they are a bit silver purpleish. I have learned to cut them back before they go to seed to control it but still get some popping up in the bed. I dug out a bunch and those roots go deep!
Zone of your Garden? Really important.
I’m in zone 6b. I mention in the description box but for seed saving not sure it is relevant as you just want to look for the seed pods being brown and slightly cracked open. I usually can collect them in the summer all the way until early fall. Hope that helps.
@@MonicaKatie Thanks! I have collected a lot of seed in my life- I just find a mention of zone in gardening video titles to be important. 6b here too!
i wish I saw you connecting panels.
Sorry I didn’t capture that. I watched this video by yardlink ua-cam.com/video/WivQkRaJC18/v-deo.htmlsi=ZZr5pLUHHeAC8Myz that was very helpful. It is not the same style fence but it is the same method.
What kind of Viola is that right next to your dill? It is gorgeous! 😍
Thanks 😊 it is Wine LAETA
Things I never need to plant again if I let them go to seed: Borage, coneflower, Sweet William, cilantro, poppies, marigolds and calendulas. They pop up everywhere and all are easy to move or pull. Great to know about winter sown tomatoes as I’m testing peppers and tomatoes in my garden to see if they produce the same as indoor starts. Love the forget me nots and just bought seeds for pink. The pansies 🤩 look great in a pot crowded together. I’ve discovered bigger onions by growing from seed and planting in full sun 6” apart. I realized a bit late this year that onion seeds don’t keep past a year. Hope they get to the finish line as it’s almost summer solstice and it’s bulbing time here. So hot, humid and bouts of rain the rust and soon mildew will be here so I ripped out most of the poppies as there was way too many and need air. The mosquitoes were not in my garden vision for this year, but they are here anyways. Not too enjoyable with a head net on, long sleeves and it’s 90 degrees as I see NJ is also. 😂😂you have no choice on the lemon balm😂😂it stays whether you want it or not-just kidding. Ohhh, the Agastache 👏🏼👏🏼🤩 it looks similar to penstemon!! Can’t wait to see it here as I have Raspberry Daiquiri and Apache Sunset. By accident I planted the new Josephine clematis near the variegated pink penstemon and it really looked nice. It’s a happy dance when you surprise yourself 😅. Your veg garden is set up very nice. Good luck to us both if we miss the vine borer.
Peppers have not fruited for me early enough when I winter sowed them so this year I grew the peppers and eggplant indoors. Have not seen any lemon balm or agastache self seed. I got rid of the lemon balm from last year because I barely used it and needed the space for other things. The agastache got moved to my front garden but it is not as happy there in the clay soil.
The names that end in -ii are pronounced ee-eye. You say the name Jackman and then ee-eye. Jackman-ee-eye. I have a Philadelphus Lewisii and it's Lewis-ee-eye but I always put the emphasis on the 2nd syllable and say lew-WEES-ee-eye but it's not really correct.
Thanks 😊 I’ll have to remember that
What are the green hoop poles called that you have over the summer squash? They look like tent poles but I'd like some if they sell separately.
I got the hoops on Amazon. I have a link to them in my Amazon store. They call them Garden Hoops for Raised Beds. Hope that helps.
@@MonicaKatie Thank you! I'll go to your store as soon as I get my new replacement debit card. 👍
Wow you're plants are huge. They look great. Hahah nasturtiums are monsters hahaha. I love those violas I have. A few that have self seeded from last year. What kind of alyssum a that? It looks really upright. I bought seeds for a purple variety a few days ago. Wow that supersweet 100 is crazy. I'm planning on less pruning this year too, see how it goes ahahha. Love the coleus!!!! So fun. The hucheras look great in the container. I didn't bother starting any calendula this year. I get a ton self seeding and poppies too. Ohh I've wanted to try box car willy, heard good things about them. I'm impressed with the winter sown tomatoes. I always baby mine hehhe.
The alyssum is Royal Carpet. As the season progresses they will drape. I only had one calendula self seed.
Hubby recommends an 8" auger to drill out a big hole in the clay for your plants instead of rhe grow bags. Thats what he does. The clay has a lot of nutrients, but a pain to dig. You can rent them too.
I tried an auger in the past but our soil has so many rocks in it that is is nearly impossible. I really like growning my dahlias in grow bags, I have had the best success growing them in that manner and it is also so much easier when digging out the tubers. I won't be going back to planting dahlias in the ground.
@@MonicaKatie ohhhhh ya or digging up tubers grow bags for sure.. I almost break a shovel every year when I dig up my cannas hahahah.
You're the winter sowing queen. My snaps didn't do well from seed thus year, but rhankfully I have some coming back rather survived and are blooming. Does your gomphrena get big? Mine stalls out at like 6-8". And it's got a tiny bloom. Should I prune it???? I'm not sure they're worth it for me to grow.
My husband recommends using an 8" auger to make a really big hole to fill with soil n plants. That's what he does in our clay soil. For his special plants.
Last year my gomprena both in pots and in the ground got to about 24 inches tall. I pruned it only to get some flowers for drying or if I needed to encourage new blooms. The deer also did their own trimming on the gomprena last year 😆. I do have another gomprena in a pot which is a dwarf variety and should only get about 8 inches tall.
@@MonicaKatie hmmm mine identifies as dwarf.
I remember growing a Dahlia close to my foundation and it came back every year (which I was surprised as well). I took it out for some reason but will experiment doing that again. Loving your pink Hydrangea at the start of this video. Very prolific. Coneflowers are so awesome. Can’t go wrong with them with all the different colors they come in. I found perennial Ageratum from a local women on Facebook marketplace. They are forming a short hedge and I’m looking forward to seeing them flower. Thanks for sharing your garden.
This is my first year growing ageratum. I believe the perennial one is flossflower which I also planted in a different area of my garden but not sure that is getting enough sun. That dahlia is surprising because that is about 5 feet from the foundation but I guess it is sheltered by a lot of shrubs. We'll see if it does anything.
You have some beautiful hydrangeas Monica. I can't wait for mine to bloom. Thanks for the tour. Bonny zone 5b Canada
Thank you for stopping by 😊
😂Astilbes! I have this plant after my in-laws sold their home and now I know why my FIL surrounded it with rocks and I’m sure cut it back because after 4 years it has gained very powerful legs! Yes, they take over and I have no idea where else to put it. Mine is lavender. I noticed since the oak tree has increased the shade the Columbine and astilbe picked up Big time! I definitely have work to do this fall. Your weather sounds like ours here in WI with rain and boy did the astilbe love that. The stems, leaves are bigger than ever. Suppose I could put a free sign on them. The dogwood can get pretty aggressive also. I once had red twig and now yellow twig. I think I have to start considering how aggressive a plant can get before I plant them as I don’t need heavy work going forward. The poppies and primrose are easy to pull. I hope the astilbe didn’t create an iron mat like oregano that was here before us, couldn’t even sink a shovel into it. I still have two plants on my list for shrubs-a snowball and a snowflake Viburnam like you have. The red wigelia that was here is a nice shrub and it has bloomed red flowers a good share of the summer the last 2 years after I cut old canes to the base. I never bought ajuga and it appeared, but I had to catch it as it was choking out the grass. Nice ground cover though as nothing grows through it. We are a couple of weeks behind in growth than your area as we get cold nights longer. That heat is here and it will be a jungle as there are numerous rain chances this week. So nice not to have drought, but the mosquitoes 🤯
I started the astilbe from bare root and they were not as large as they are getting this year. I’ll just dig out a couple of them and re home them. Not sure if the dogwood is spreading but plan on cutting back at least 1/3 of it this fall/winter which may help keep it under control. Happy gardening 😉
I have the chocolate chip ajuga and it spreads really well. The bunnies don't seem to both it at all...🐰🐰🐰
Ah, it probably is a chocolate chip ajuga, thanks! Glad the bunnies don’t bother it. I just saw one hopping around in that garden and so far they have left it alone. 😊
Ugh deer and rabbits! I have to fence everything. If you have day lilies they think they are bon bons. The peony was a lovely color! Cameras are not always kind at capturing the wonderful colors of flowers. I started the cherry rudbeckia also this year and it’s still short and trying to figure out what it’s suppose to do. And I must get some Rose campion! Very nice color in foliage and flower. I had a surprise return on I think salvia also. So fun to have those surprises. Looks like you’ve had a bit of rain as well. The poppies here have taken over and had to move the yarrow out to save it. I really need to thin those poppies as soon as blooms are done. Before I realized they like it here I planted 3 other varieties and a bit scared what they may do. I like things to reseed, but Wow! Now that the soil is better I have more flowers that are getting aggressive and will take those to try planting outside of the box 😊 to see what can survive the wildlife. Have a hollyhock turned tree next to Julia Child rose and things in general are getting crowded and roses want air. A new favorite is penstemon and it’s amazing how it looks at the base of clematis-pinks and deep red purples. The lavender is blooming and love it hot and dry. I have an oak nearby one bed and I think it zaps all the moisture as I’m always watering other flowers, but stay away from lavender and it loves it. You have many flowers that I have started and can’t wait to see them. If the sweet peas don’t pick it up the heat may do them in. Thank you for the tour and hope the wildlife finds another yard.
Yeah, this is the one garden bed I don't have fenced in just some chicken wire to keep rabbits out of certain plants. I don't have day lilies or hostas as I've heard they are deer candy. We have been getting at least one weekly storm where we get a ton of rain in an hour or two but otherwise dry. Nowe we are going into a week of 90+ weather so I hope that everthing will fair well - will be keeping everything watered. This garden bed was a little out of control and had to take out several plants as other things take over. I'm looking forward to adding some penstemon in my garden. Yeah, the lavender definetly likes the sandy soil and and the dryier side. I transplanted one where it rarely gets water and the soil is poor but it is loving that spot. Thanks for stopping by and watching. 😊❤
