Volume 1 Climbing - How to get started!
this was a great starting/beginner shoe for me, I went true to size with my street shoe which is 9.5, it's very comfortable but found it too loose after breaking in period. I recommend purchasing half or a full size down since it will stretch overtime.
This is the La Sportiva answer to the Scarpa Drago; after the Theory fell flat on its face. I've tried the Drago and it's a beautiful shoe; but frankly too soft for my taste. Ordered a pair of these and looking forward to trying them out. Scarpas just don't fit me; La Sportiva's DO. Fingers crossed.
Hey i use both Theory and Skwama in size 40,5 and both are a perfect fit soo should i do the same with the Mandalas? or not?
He words it a little weird but he says he wears 40.5 as well (same here), but has found that going bigger in the mandalas landing at the 41.5 to be best for him. Ie they are running a bit smaller than usual and you should go bigger in sizing
This felt less like a review and more like an ad
Maybe they are just that good
👍
How does the Ondra Comp compare to the Mandala!
So better at smearing than solution comp but worse at small footholds, better at small footholds than theory but worse at smearing?
Cool to hear that the heel is narrow! How’s the depth of the heel, though? Say compared to the Theory’s. Thanks!
The theory is deep and doesn't fit i really hope the ondra comp won't have the sane problem..
Bought it today guys, the heel is very very similar, I can't tell if it's different for now, didn't do real sessions in it
TL;DR: Adam Ondra asked La Sportiva to make a Scarpa Drago for him
Uhh, no...
Scarpa Drago is narrow in the front foot and have a high volume heel that rarely fits anyone unless you downsize very aggressively.
@@razzinijj5465 Or you just buy LV version :)

Do we know when we’ll be able to purchase these I can’t find anything on them?
Where abouts are you based? Launched in the Europe now but at limited retailers. If you are struggling to find a retailer in your country then drop us a message and we will see if we can help you out!
@@volume1climbing thank you I’m located in the US. I seen on la sportivas site you can get them but unfortunately not in the US yet. Do you happen to know if they’ll be coming here soon or am I better ordering of someone in Europe?
@@DanielParks-g7uI imagine you should have them pretty soon in the US. We got our pre-ordered stock only a couple of days ago and as they are all hand made in Italy I imagine it just takes a bit longer for stock to drop in the US. We think they will be worth the wait!
@@volume1climbing fingers crossed they get here soon I’m not sure how much longer my shoes will survive haha. Thank you for the help
@@volume1climbing how about new zealand? probs in 5years at this rate, our retailers arent able to get la sportiva in until mid next year so they are switching to evolv
Informative video, thanks! Could you provide a width comparison with Scarpa Drago and LS Theory or Mandala, please? I own the mentioned shoes and am quietly dreaming of a wider Drago, wondering if this could fulfill that wish. And possibly, could you also provide your mondopoint for sizing reference?
so awesome
Serenity Place
I’ve had these skwamas for 8 months ish and should I say, they’re disappointing… After a month of climbing 3 times a week, the stitching started coming loose. The front rubber also started to rip and I was really confused on why this was happening with just a month of use. Overall, they’re an okay shoe but I prefer the normal skwamas for durability
Does it have something to do with the microfiber though ? It sounds more like a defect that could happen on the regular Skwama too (only difference is microfiber instead of leather).
anyone with roman feet tried these out?
Hi, I have Futura 2024 in size 36.5 with a tight fit. What size would you recommend for mandala? I don't want to downsize too much as I prefer comfy fit to aggressive fit.
Excellent shoes! Regarding size, I use 42.5 in Genius, 42.5 in Mandalas is a tad too big . I use 44 in street shoes.
if you are going with UK sizes stick to it please don't shift to EU size in the middle of the video.
Agreed
Yeah I agree, that totally threw me off lol.
Is it closer to a hv or lv shoe
That's ur review? U introduced nothing about this particular shoe
They are very fun and secure climbing shoes. Takes only 1-2 weeks to break in. Most suitable for bouldering. Disagree with the recommended sizing in this video. I would suggest half a size down from your normal La Sportiva climbing shoe size.
@@razzinijj5465 Hi! I usually wear a La Sportiva in size 40.5 I followed your suggestion and got a size 40 Mantra, man it’s so agonising. 😂
@@marcb6444 yes it is, but it gets so much better after a few weeks❤️
@@marcb6444 How's it feeling now? I've had the men's theories in 40.5 They felt too tight in my toes but the heel was too baggy. If you've tried them, how did they compare to the Mantra?
How is the new Futura (wide and fit) compared to the older ones since there where a version for men and women?
I recently purchased the new 2024 Futura model and they run kinda big in my opinion I am a street shoe size US 10 (43 Euro) and found I could downsize at low as size 40 Euro on these. I purchased the size 40 although probably should have gotten the 40.5. Anyway I’d highly advise to down size a minimum of 2 full Euro sizes for a comfortable tight fit, size 2.5 down for a performance tight fit and size 3 down for an aggressive performance fit
Do you have a previous pair of Futura or a pair of solution to compare with?
@@TheLimastra I never owned the previous model. I went to a gear store that actually had just about every new 2024 Futura sized in stock. I originally asked for a size 41.5 but that was kinda big. The smallest size I could fit my foot without the use of a plastic bag was size 40.5. I ended up with size 40.0 which I do need a plastic bag to slip them in. Size 40 is the lowest I feel I can squeeze my foot without it being excruciating. I went with that size so accommodate the 0.5 stretch that these will eventually lengthen too
@@TVinmyEye if my street shoe size is 36 and adidas 36 2/3, should I get 35.5 or 35? Thank you
Bad Audio - please fix audio for future vids ;)
the audio isnt that bad
I wear LS approach 45, Solution and Solution Comp 42.5, and went for this Futura 43. Climbed the first time outdoor today and I think 42.5 would fit best. I can tighten them more, but there is some length left to fill in my heel. EDIT: that was just a warmup on a cold-ish day. Today I used them more extensively for the second half of practice indoors, and the fit felt much nicer with the swollen foot. Maybe 43 is right after all, depends how much they will stretch
how much does it stretch after one month?
Is Mandala a wide volume or normal volume? Is close to Skwama's and Theory's width? La Sportiva haven't update its graphic chart yet
Same toe width as genius, never tried the skwama however the genius is pretty wide, and has the PD85 last same as Skwama, Theory, and Testarossa, and now the Mandala
Thanks for the video :) So which of the 4 new shoes (mantra, mandala, genius, futura) is best suited for which style of climbing (indoors/outdoors, bouldering/sport climbing, overhang/slab/steep stuff)?
Is there a future comparison video of all the No Edge options? I don't know which is the best all rounder
La Sportiva say Futura is the best allrounder
I currently use the theorys in size EU43 for a tight fit (i have giant feet) and a 42 in the skwamas, also a tight fit, what size would you recommend?
Not too sure what to recommend as I wear the same size in both theory and Skwama but went up 0.5 - 1 size in the mandalas. But based off your comments would probably recommended the 43.
What are the differences between these and the theory? They look very similar.
Whilst they share some aesthetics with the theory they are very different. Mainly around the stiffness. The Theory is super soft with no midsole where as the Mandala is closer in stiffness to the Skwama. The Mandala looks to fit in the range in a similar place as the Skwama as an allrounder, but aimed at mid to high end bouldering and sport climbing but with the no edge technology. If you want a bit softer then there is the Futura or if you want really soft then there is the Mantra in the No Edge family.
@@volume1climbing Thanks a lot!
Climbing shoes are getting more and more aggressive over the years. How downturned will they be in 2050? 😅
Does the mandala have that black plastic lining around the ankle that is also on the skwamas? I find this really uncomfortable. Also how secure does the heel feel? Thanks
It does have the same black lining as the Skwamas. The new Futura's don't though so would be worth checking those out as has a more padded foot entrance! Heel feels ok when sized correctly, find that going up at least 0.5 size, drops the foot deeper in to the heel. Obviously with being a new shoe it is unknown how much they will stretch out but I imagine it will be similar to the Skwama.
How soft are they compared to other la sportiva shoes?
They feel most similar in softness to the skwamas from the initial feel. Futuras are a bit softer and then the Mantra is super soft as has no midsole.
Was wondering how these would compare to skwamas in fit?
They feel similar to the skwama in many ways. The biggest difference is that they appear to sit slightly lower on the foot under the ankle than the skwama. But similar width toebox based on feel but with a slightly narrower heel.
Is it same shape as old/new matnras?
Not entirely sure how no edge technology works. Does it still spread the weight sort of evenly similar to other La Sportiva toe boxes? I'd assume it does that even better since you're saying that it conforms even better to the nooks and crannies?
I guess one way to think about it is that you are effectively smearing on every hold. The rubber then distributes itself into all the available space so you get maximum rubber contact with the hold.
If you ask me it looks so much like a MadRock Drone CS
Which one is wider? Mantra, Futura or Mandala? Or are they the same?
The mandala is a little bit wider than the others but not by much. I wouldn't personally consider any of them to be a wide fit!
Looks boring. La Sportiva isn’t revolutionizing the game anymore like back in the days. Other brands doing it better in my opinion.
I’ll ask for a mortgage to buy a pair
Was just thinking about buying one of these, really like the new style!
Slightly narrower heel. Not as deep as the solution comp
but probably not as narrow, as the Skwama WMN? i also like the new miura vs and katana lace heel, i terms of shape.
I have Futuras myself, but I've always wanted Futuras with a little more toe hook rubber, is this what they are? I wear 40.5 EU in Futuras for tight fit, what size would you recommend? 😶😶
They are a bit stiffer than the futuras but not by an amount that is a complete game changer. I don't know how they compare to the old Futura in regard to sizing but compared to the new model then we would recommend going up 0.5!
The new Mandala has more toe hook rubber than the Futura. Did seem a little strange as the Futura looked more geared towards bouldering. Anyway both worked well on indoor lead routes with small holds and I've used the Mandala outdoors and they really stick like glue to small holds
Crazy deal on these right now!!
0:06 though😂
Going down 2 sizes is mental. I’ve been shoe shopping for about 3 months now, it’s been maybe the most frustrating experience i’ve had buying equipment in any sport, and i’ve tried a lot. The size recommendations reviewers throw around are basically unhinged. I’m trying to enjoy a hobby, not squeeze my foot into a medieval torture device!
That’s the euro shoe experience. Had to size down my Tenaya Mastia 2.5 sizes down just to fill out the shoe, had the same experience with the La Sportiva Skwama going from Size 9 US street shoe to fitting into 6.5 US otherwise I can’t stand on small edges. I’ve moved to American climbing brands since then: Evolv, Madrock, 5.10 and Unparallel all perform great at true-to-size.
@@mikej243 i’ve had a completely different experience. I wear a 43-44 street shoe (44 Nike SB, 43 Etnies) and my proper fit is the 43 1/3 Tenaya Indalo. The 42 Mastia was too small for me, the 43 1/4 Iati not quite tight enough . Tenaya has a bad reputation for sizing, but in the end I should’ve trusted my street shoe size over the reviews 5.10 is at least as notorious as Tenaya for having it’s own sizing from what I’ve heard. I’m posting all the sizes and brands for posterity in case someone finds it useful, because online climbing shoe shopping shoes is so frustrating.
Did you say the heel is a little bit Marmite? Can you help a clueless chap across the pond … ? [looked it up, it means love it or hate it … here in Chicago we would say it’s a bit Malort; I love Marmite and Malort so I am going to give these a shot]
nobody loves malort
This video was incredibly useful, thank you I’m shopping for a new pair of climbing shoes at the moment and this cleared up a lot of my questions about the solution
just got fitted for a pair of these. I have thin feet. UK 41. Landed in 38 3/4. Should wear in nicely, so they tell me! 😊
thanks for the review, new to climbing and now i’m sure i want a shoe like this. Thanks a lot
It‘s a fantastic shoe!!!
