Badass and beautiful!
Nice!
Where do you buy your knives?
I buy them directly from Siberia, don’t ask how 😅 but I sell them in my Etsy store
@@timpiatenko4584 how do I find you there? I have never used Etsy.
Beautiful collection Tim!! would be nice to have a chance to buy one.. Kind regards Robert
Where do you get these?
I’ve recently bought my first, it came with a bevel on the convex side, I thought they were meant to be fully convex on that side- you sharpen them on the flat side, so there should be (or so I thought) no need of a bevel at all. The other issue is, it means you have to hold the knife at quite an obtuse angle to shelve wood with it, a far greater angle than you would with a “normal” knife. Do yours have a bevel? I’ve watched quite a few videos about Yakut knives, it’s very difficult to tell, but some do look like they do and some not, but generally the quality isn’t good enough on UA-cam to tell definitively. I’m thinking to try to remove it on a belt grinder (Ken Onion blade grinding attachment) but it’s a lot of grinding, so I’m in two minds about it.
Thanks for showing all the different styles. Very interesting!
I was told that the ox tail sheaths are meant to keep the knives waterproof in areas with lots of water. The knives actually float! So even if it falls to the water you get a chance to get it back. Also in some of them, the with and form is the same along the handle, so you can mount it like a bayonet on the seath for finishing the game while hunting. Could you tell me the master who did the knife you display in 3:40 or where did you get it from? I can recommend you Edward Byrdilin from БЫРДЫКА уус for this style of Yakutian knife.
The one at 3:40 I believe was from Artem Khristoforov. He was out of it for a while, but I've seen some new stuff from him pop up on UUS Expo and Yakutian Brands (you can find them on Instagram) lately. Byrdyka is well-known to me 🙂He's a bit of a complicated character… I prefer not to deal with such people. In terms of oxtail sheaths - they are nt meant for wet weather… Yes, they are light, and yes it might float, but you better dry it REALLY well. I live in the Pacific NW of the US, and let me tell you, it's not pretty when these get wet and stay wet for a while 😁
What is your link on Etsy?
etsy.me/2AyyBkM
but it's temporarily closed, while we try to figure out a way to get knives here from Siberia with the war going on…
Hi Tim. I love in the PNW. Just 20min north of Rose City. I to have a passion for the Yakut knife. Infact I am a Blade Smith. I would like to start making them. Maybe we can get together and collaborate.
Where do you find these blades?
Straight from Republic of Sakha / Yakutia… at least I did before the War in Ukraine... Currently working on a possible solution. Keep an eye on my Etsy shop BaianaiBladesUS.
@@timpiatenko3760is it true people one Russia can’t ship stuff out of Russia right now?
What's the brand name at 14:00?
I have one from the 80's that is a Russian military knife its different from any other I've seen but apparently it was used at sea
Called Finka Knife

All the knifes are beautiful. Cool to see how different cutting properties each grind and small angle has. Thanks for sharing.

The indentation on the blade gives the knife its own unique character. However, it also makes the sharp edge of the blade limited when sharpening.
