    I am starting in Porto on May 24, after a delay of two years. Very excited. Walked the French one twice but never been to Portugal before. We, a friend and I intend to walk on to Finesterre, as I missed that out the last time. I am 77 years old and after Covid need to catch up on all the things still on my list. Buenavista Camino Iris

      Thank you Iris. I enjoyed the Porto walk. Don’t forget to have a look at the fabulous painted tiles in the railway station in Porto before you go. I did the English Camino last year and walked on to Finesterre. Well worth the effort. Good luck and may your God go with you. Roger.

    I like that your video started and ended with the dog! He looked so confused when you left and was so happy when he greeted you back home again. I miss the camino life, the feeling that every day is a new story and you never know exactly what it will be like.

      Hi Amisa That’s Benny he is still around. I walked six different Camino routes and each had its own points of interest A knee injury prevents me from walking too far nowadays and I do miss walking into the unknown and not knowing what each day will bring. Perhaps one day I might go back to where it all started in 2011 and walk the Frances again. Thank you for your kind remarks.

      So do I Hilary. I have walked six different routes and would do each one again if I had the time. But I have done some good, I hope. I walk to raise money for charity an so far have raised £60.000, and met some great people.

    Hi, Thanks for posting your video. I enjoyed my Camino so much I decided to write a novel about it. It is called The Catching of the Camino Wind. It was published on 31 July. It’s an off-beat romantic novel with the Camino as its setting. All who have walked the Camino will recognise the locations and Albergue’s mentioned. As well as a romantic novel it also a humorous look at the human condition. It’s available @ www.amazon.co.uk/Catching-Camino-Wind-Jim-Yates/dp/0955583667/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=jim+yates&qid=1566332917&s=books&sr=1-1

      Hello Windswept, nice work! I´m a little bit worry About my Via de la Plate 2019. I will have only 33Days of Vacation! Including 2Days of traveling from Frankfurt to Sevilla and back from Santiago! So i may have to speed up a Little! :-)

      Dirk Pausch I did have one rest day. I am a fast walker but I was 68 years old when I walked the route. You might go faster if you take the Frances route when the track divides but you will be missing out on some excellent walking if you don’t take the alternative route to Oseira and Ourense. Also, if you opt for the Camino Frances route you will get trampled by the hordes coming from the east. Good luck.

      Hello Windswept, thanks for your advice on the Route. I know the Camino Frances very well and i am not planning to go this Way. I like to go the Way over Ourense. I am 44yrs. and i have to do a little bit of Training as Prepp-Work! But i stay optimistic! :-)

  • @windswept8317
    @windswept8317 6 років тому

    Further to my last answer Annie, when the time comes don’t be tempted to take the route that meets up with the Camino Frances. Take the one that goes to Ourense and then go the the monastery at Oseira and stay for the night. You won’t regret it you do, you will regret it if you don’t.

    Bonjour! J'ai beaucoup aimé votre courte vidéo. Très parlante. I really enjoyed your short video. You said in one of your answers that you walked during april-may. Could you give me the temperature range you had all along (lows and highs). I cannot stand heat and prefer walking in cool or cold weather. Merci d'avance. I would leave in early 2019.

    • @windswept8317
      @windswept8317 6 років тому

      Annie OLLIVIER Hello, Annie, the temperature ranged between 25 up to Galicia where it dropped to around 18 degrees. I Found it quite pleasant but the weather is so changeable nowadays. I suspect if you don’t like too much heat you are going at the right time. You will also get the benefit of seeing spring arrive in Extramadura. Good luck. Roger

    Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I am now determined to document our trip like this too, such a good memory. It has given me a good idea of what the Via de La Plata will be like. Reinforced the idea that this is the one we want to start with. A lot of blogs etc warn us against bed bugs: should we worry? And if you don't mind the questions: do we need to carry lunch or is it easy to find bars/shops/cafes or whatever on the way? Can't wait, we will go in April 2019....

    Lovely video, Dick. Thanks for sharing your achievement with us. I'm considering doing Via de la Plata myself but doubt I'll do all 1,000 kilometres. If you were me, would you do the southern half (and bus the last 100 or so kilometres to Santiago de Compostela, or the northern half?

    • @windswept8317
      @windswept8317 7 років тому

      Lynda Harrison Thank you Lynda if I only had a short time I would do the northern half. probably fly into Salamanca and start from there. It is a much harder walk but going through the wilds of North West Galicia to Ourense and Staying at the monastery in Oseira are things I won't forget. The lower half is flatter and easier walking, some say boring but it's still interesting and in spring the long tracks through verdant countryside is spectacular. That said, I walk solo and simply enjoy the open air. Why don't you consider doing it in two stages? If you have time read my blog which hopefully will give you a better idea if what to expect. Feel free to get in touch if you need any more info. Thanks for dropping in.

    Thanks, sorry about the spelling. If you think that's bad you should read the blog. I wrote it and posted at the end of each day when all I really wanted to do was shower and sleep. Which is my excuse for the poor grammar and other mistakes. Still, I hope it gives visitors a flavour of the trek
