I told my friend Blake Hall, that I would fish his private water when he started guiding on it last year. I finally was able to go, and had a blast. Good Fish and Good Comp Results-Fly Fishing
I wish Virginia would stock some Dolly Varden for harvest.
That looks more like a bull trout or a dolly varden
Was this the same place that I met you?
It is a bit further down river. Right now it is full of fish. Give it a shot
@@SUflyfshn-YT I am ready for some mountain streams. Congrats on the new baby!!
Worst video of the week.
@@paulracano what would you suggest to make it better
Or buy them
Nice flies do you make them bye
@@JoeWhitwell-js4dl thanks for asking! I tie everything I use.
@@SUflyfshn-YT nice sorry but this is what creek or river does it have a name
Can you tie a size 10 hook sexy walts worm with peacock curl legs with large bead any bead you like
Well I could, however the issue is the peacock legs will be very fragile, tearing after the first fish. But definitely can definitely do that. Would you like the legs through the sexy waltz or at the front?
@@SUflyfshn-YT yes at the front bottom behind the metal bead
6:34 hilarious that red horse actually ate the fly too 😂 bet you thought you had a big brown when you first could see it out in the current lol
I definitely did. I’ve caught some massive suckers on a fly. Always gets me very excited then laughing. lol
Do you fish West Virginia too ?
Yes, I fish NC, WV, VA, and TN. I try to even out the trips to every where but mostly fish in SW VA.
@@SUflyfshn-YT Awesome 👏 hopefully see you someday in WV . Fall is here and all the rain just fell. Trout fishing should be great next couple months 👍 good luck 🍀
Awsome video! I’ll have to try and tie some!
That is one of my favorite stretches of that place! It holds alot of fish
Nice💚💚
awesome stuff what state is this in?
In Virginia. I was lucky enough to get a cool week wear the water was cool enough for a morning trip, to this particular freestone.
Awesome video! You were fishing at my favorite tail water!!
You had a great day! Thanks for your help and tips
Any time! I hope y’all caught more than that small one I saw early.
Awesome video buddy!
Lots of good stuff in here. So true that It takes being around and learning from people at the next level to improve your skills.
Honestly have gotten exponentially better just being around those guys. Always sponging up stuff, is how you get better as fast as possible.
new sub good stuff
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Seth, I am starting in that first spot myself this morning.
How did you do?
@@SUflyfshn-YT really well!
That’s a great rod. Backbone for days but protects the tippet. It’s what I catch most of my best fish on and they never break me off.
Nice video thanks for sharing. I've been trout fishing for 50 years caught my 1st tiger 2 months ago no palimno yet
I reckon you caught both wild and stock brown trout.
You caught a wild brown trout as well as a stock trout.
Lil muddy but still fishable!
You have stock trout and wild trout.

Stock brown trout.
Looks like stock trout to me.
I see you got both.
Well, it looks like you caught both bro.
Hey you won my give away! So if you could message me at instagram.com/suflyfshn, you can give me your address, your order, and I will send those flies to you.
@@SUflyfshn-YT Will do.
You done well on the stock and wild brown trout catch bro.
Great video about an often overlooked part of fly fishing. Without controlling the line with that finger it is really hard to hook and land fish!
I appreciate it My man. When guiding I realized that it’s something a lot of people don’t think about. I figured let’s put a video out to point people to
@@SUflyfshn-YT I was talking Brooklyn through it the other day when she was learning. She got the hang of it pretty quickly. Landed 2 fish without any help from me.
Egg is life
Honestly. Every comp I do everyone, including the top guys in the nation, start with, or immediately switch to, an egg. Just want these stupid fish to hit the size 20 nymph, that has 13 different materials on it and took me 30-40 minutes to tie. EAT IT! But noooo, the egg that takes 30 secs to tie, is it.
Great video man. I feel like when you go out and have a general thought process of something to work on definitely keeps you in it.
Interesting video, that would be much better if edited to remove the "ah, ahmmm, ahs".
Great video as always. What is your rod and reel mic you are using for comps?
So for my dry dropper I use a 9’ 4wt RL Winston pure with a Ross animas reel and for my euro set up is a 10’ 2wt diamondbacks ideal nymph with a sage ESN reel. Honestly great set ups but the leader/tip up prolly is just as important, planning on doing a video explaining comp stuff. After my comp in April/May
Gotcha, I recently got a 3 wt because my goal going forward is to do a lot more mountain streams for natives. In my area it is mainly brookies anyway.
Something to think about when practicing. Almost every one of those hooksets you set with the dry dropper/indicator rig, you set the hook the wrong direction. Always set downstream no matter what, if you set up river you will miss way more fish than you want to, especially in a comp situation when fish are eating faster than usual from the fishing pressure, trout face into the current set the hook into them not away from them, hopefully that’ll help you out some. A lot of people do it but it’s one of the biggest mistakes I see anglers make all across the board
Jacob!!! I very much agree, and yes it is something I definitely need to work on. Unfortunately this is a lesson I learned the hard way down at the Soque, and I dropped half the fish I hooked because of it. I agree, It’s something I don’t think a lot of people think of. And I really didn’t until someone pointed it out during the end of the first day. It is just something unless you get it pointed out to you, you just don’t pay attention too most times. It’s something I still struggle with being conscious of. Just need to make it a point to do consistently, over and over again, until it’s muscle memory. I very much appreciate the comment!
Love the videos like always! A tough day on the water was yesterday actually. Made my way through a popular stream in the Shenandoah park, and I knew this stream has been pounded lately. Biggest lesson I learned was remaining focused on getting rid of as much drag on dry flies as I can. With as much pressure that water has had lately I knew if I can put a huge emphasis on that it was going to be good.
Good stuff!
Hah was just watching you and Ben on your guide tips videos. I super appreciate it! Thanks my man!
Some biggies man! I’m happy your enjoying the winter season as much as you can brotha! 🤙🏼
You think the 10' 1wt DB would be a good option for this local stream? I have a 10' 2wt Douglas DXF I use there but thinking about getting a DB. Either the 10' 1wt or 10' 2wt or the 10'10' 2wt and using that one for the tailwaters as well.
I have seen the 1wt DB do very well there especially with the super light takes the big fish often do, due to pressure, plus the tippet protection on the rods are phenomenal. Caught the bigger fish on 7x and didn’t break it off at the strike. The 10’ 10” 2wt is a hoot on tail-waters. The reach is fantastic for a the larger bodies of water.
Yo….. how big was that rainbow at the end?!?! 🙏🏼🤘🏼
It was about 23” prolly around 5-6 pounds
El Sculpito Olive Streamer is the real deal. Love it.
The Sculpzilla is an awesome streamer i like to deploy most often.
The Dirty Hippy is a great fly for my style of fishing. Consider that one of my favorites.
The Muddler Minnow caught me a lot of whopper over the years and i can't say no to it.
I fancy a Zonker any time.
My favorite flies pattern is anything that mimics a minnow.
Hey Roger I hope all is well. You won this video’s giveaway! My Instagram is linked here -> instagram.com/suflyfshn?igshid=YTQwZjQ0NmI0OA%3D%3D& I hope to hear from you soon so I can get those free flies ready for you.
