Really wish they would've stuck with his score. Zimmer is definitely a talented composer, but I often find his music to be overbearing. When watching 2049 in theaters there were moments when I wanted to cover my ears because it was just too much. Jóhannsson's scores also just feel so soulful. It really makes me wish he was still around because I would've loved for him and Denis to team up for Dune.
You said it - "too much". It was too bombastic and generic. With the exception of the partitions from "Mesa" track, probably the only original composition that came close to the style of Vangelis. Jóhann's style was different, he wasn't using the CS80 but his approaches was more melodic and nuanced, what could have fitted the BR universe.
For me watching this really means that I'm so fucking lonely! Lol

The only good tune from BR2049, and yet the synth sounds harsh compared to the sounds from the original Vangelis score.

I honestly think that it would be better to explore new characters, not linked to both films ; and have a more "grounded" plot than in BR2049. To me Blade Runner is all about the city and its moody atmosphere, a city of millions souls, with millions of stories to be told.

Hello, no it wasn't. This track was made by Vangelis for the original movie but didn't make the cut. It can be found, as other exclusives tracks, in "Blade Runner Trilogy, 25th Anniversary" album. Cheers.

My movie will be a melodrama with a contemplative French horns composition like this.
Good music choice.
Being a Post Apocalyptic movie, sadness should be pressent in the movie, melancolic and dark soul in order to underline and shine the hope that the finding of the missing father or the feltile replicant implies as a great joy and as enough motivation to fight for. If you don't underline melancoly then the sparks of hope are not as shining. Fire brights more in the night than in day.
