    ‏What is the best compressor? I have the 1996 caprice

    • @bellarmine33
      @bellarmine33 День тому

      Hi Random, thanks for your question. I got mine used from a scrapyard V6 Camaro (same compressor). Works perfect, except it has a leak in the body, recharge it every 2 years, but only paid $65...:o) If you want new, I would recommend 4 Seasons, that's what's in my '96 Wagon, past 7 years, works very well and very quiet. Here's a link to some choices at my favorite car parts place, just browsing the parts index for almost every car ever made teaches you something..:o) www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/buick,1996,roadmaster,5.7l+v8,1022218,heat+&+air+conditioning,a/c+compressor,6628 Here is the 4 Seasons compressor: www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=816504&cc=1022218&pt=6628 Hope that's helpful Ransom, any other questions or comments drop me another note anytime. I'm going to try this. Question, won't the tire hit the board that the jack is placed on? Or will it slide along as the wheel moves? Thanks

    • @bellarmine33
      @bellarmine33 3 місяці тому

      Hi Tim, thanks for your question. No the jack won't 'hit' the board(s) placed underneath it, they shouldn't even get in the way or be an issue. I just placed them underneath the jack to hold it at the right place while jacking. Once there's tension on the chain they don't do too much, they remain loose and movable. Either way they won't be a problem....:o) Good luck with your wheel extraction, these can be Stubborn! Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions, thanks Tim and Cheers!~ Bellarmine

      Thanks for the question. You're right, good point. Unfortunately there was never any hour meter installed, so can't say. Put it back on the small dingy where it belongs and got the Johnson 30HP (in my other videos) back in operation, just had it out last fall, be launching it again soon. Glad you've had some of these motors yourself, old Johnson's are just plain fun! There must be a better way then this key system. Looks common for these wheels to seize onto the axle and be almost impossible to remove. Cant they have little wheel hubs like cars do?

    • @bellarmine33
      @bellarmine33 5 місяців тому

      Yes, that WOULD be nice, but I guess you have to get a bigger tractor for that. My Dad has a very nice Yard-Man 16HP Hydrostatic Garden tractor with small 3-point hydraulic hitch, it has wheel hubs splined to the axles and rims that bolt on with 4 bolts, MUCH nicer! Also actually, I've seen a small John Deere 108 that simply had a plate on the end of the shaft with 3 studs on it, 5 hole wheel bolted on to 3 studs(!) Cheap but works, so guess they can do it when they feel like it...:o) Thanks for the comment - Cheers!~ Bellarmine

      That's true, but I really wanted to solve this problem and not band-aid it. Hello, Im pretty late to this video to be asking questions but I recently purchased a non-working 117 and was able to replace the platter belt and the loading tray gear. As of right now the loading mechanism works fine and all the buttons seem to be responsive. However, the existing problem right now is that when pressing play, the tray closes and the clamp goes down on the record but the tonearms do nothing. Pressing the cue button also does nothing for me. I was wondering if you could offer any advice because I am stumped. Im pretty sure its an electrical problem but I havent seen anything suspicious.

      Hi Codeco, no problem thanks for your question, I'll do my best to help. First off, have you checked / replaced the carriage belt, the one that moves the tone arms back and forth? You should be able to use the buttons to move the tone arm across the platter, whether there's a record loaded or not. TRY THIS: Lift and hold up the grey plastic front door and look inside (no record needed, might need a flashlight). Now press the FWD button once, and see if the tone arm moves in about an inch, and the platter starts spinning. You should then be able to hold the FWD or REV buttons to move the tonearm back-and-forth, and then press CUE to drop it down (don't worry about the needle it won't get damaged). If while you're doing this, you hear a motor buzz but the tone-arms don't move, you've got a bad carriage belt. Hope this helps Codeco, do let me know if I can further assist. Cheers!~ Bellarmine

      @@bellarmine33 Hello, thanks for the quick response. The carriage belt for the tonearm mechanism seems to be intact. As for your suggestion, it was unsuccessful. When pressing FWD/RWD/CUE/PLAY I hear and see everything with the loading tray and clamp but nothing happening with the tonearms. What is strange though is when I unplug the connecters at CNP107 and CNP102 (circuitboard directly underneath Side A tonearm) I can then hear the buzzing coming from that motor. The only thing I can really think of is that mechanism in the back right of the system which I believe is what is supposed to actually move the arms and that SUCKS. If you could narrow anything else down I would appreciate it, thanks.

      @@codeco3456 Hi Codeco, sorry to hear that, let's see if I can dig up anything else. I assume you have both the owner's and service manuals from Vinyl Engine? Important, when you press any of the buttons, does the platter start to spin or not? Also, you say you can hear the motor 'buzz' when you unplug the wires, do the tone arms move when it runs? (they should). If the tone arm motor runs the tone arms should move back and forth. What should happen, is after closing the drawer, you press FWD, the platter starts to spin, the tone arm motor runs, tone arm moves in an inch or two. Then you press CUE, you hear a 'click' and it drops down. Finally, if you can get the arm to drop down, if you nudge it gently inwards, the carriage will move to re-center it. That is how it tracks across the record. Hope this helps, let me know........:o) Bellarmine

      @@bellarmine33 Well I do have the service manual but not the owners manual. And no, the tonearms do not move when the motor buzzes in the back. Unfortunately, the platter also does not spin when pressing the FWD/RWD buttons. So far the only thing that still works is the loading tray and track selection interface :(

      @@codeco3456 Hi Codeco, Sorry to hear that. At this point 3 things stand out ot me: -1-If the motor at the back runs, the tone arms should move (unless it is spinning the wrong way). If they don't move I suspect a mechanical / belt problem. -2-Even if the tone arms don't move, the platter should start spinnning when you press PLAY or FWD. -3-Since as you say, apparently 'nothing' is working except the loading drawer, I suspect there might be a loading fault - maybe the switch that senses the drawer is closed is broken / not working. Speaking of which, I just remembered that the drawer closed sensor switch gave me trouble on my own unit. After gluing my gear and reassembling the drawer, I *broke* my microswitch and had to glue it! The little switch tab got caught the wrong way and snapped off. I had to make a small strip of flexible plastic out of a yogurt tub and glue the switch tab back on with it, still working fine now. Again hope this helps Codeco, good talking with you. If you want, my real email is my username without the 33, followed by rogers and com. Best wishes!~ Bellarmine

      Thanks for the comment Dominick! I wouldn't worry about it, just took it for a 45m drive a few weeks ago. It's just machinery, gears and bearings, all in good working order, so long as I keep it in good repair and continue to use the proper oil to gas mixture (24:1), it should reasonably keep on trucking for another 50 years. Also I have it on good authority that it sat in the family's boathouse from the mid 70's until I came along in 2011, so that's a good 35 years of wear that didn't happen......:o) The older they are the better I like 'em - cheers Dominick!~ Bellarmine

    So All the mower, tiller, etc manufacturers are deliberately neglecting to anti-seize their axel/wheel connections to dishonestly con-jer up shop business. Every dealership should add the antisieze as part of the prep. Every buyer should add the antisieze immediately upon getting home with the machine. 🔺And the entire US is degenerating their own English language by Calling the Wheel as a Rim. It's not a rim, it's a wheel. Every wheel has a rim around its outer circumference. To call it a rim is to take away the ability to speak technically about a wheel.

    • @bellarmine33
      @bellarmine33 Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment Senator Joseph......:o) You're probably right, as the amount of Anti-sieze the mfg puts on is a real joke. I'll be greasing them myself every few years, should buy a bottle of antisieze too. I've always referred to a wheel nowadays as an assembly of rim and tire - a rim and tire makes a wheel. Though you bring up a good point, back in wagon wheel days, they had the spoked wooden wheel and outer steel rim, so you're saying the metal part is the wheel AND rim, and the rubber is the tire. So we mount our tires on wheels, not rims.......:o) Cheers Joseph!~ Robert

    Stop. !!!, Most of the time the end of the end of the axles have Ben mushroomed from being out working to began with.. Then the homeowner tries to do it himself and bangs on the end and mushrooms even more. All you have to do file down the end the c?axle with that high-quality file or a Dremel with a grinding drum on it. Spray it with Creep penetrating oil .It comes right off!
