Your Mind is Mahamudra. Zoom 11.2024
8th November 2024. Your Mind is Mahamudra. James' Zoom talk hosted by Tibethaus Germany (www.tibethaus.com)
simplybeing.co.uk/events/zoom-talk-for-tibethaus-nov-2024/
We are used to thinking about things and trying to work out what is going on. This is how we have been educated. However Mahamudra points to the intrinsic capacity of our mind to instantly and intuitively respond to whatever occurs without entering into dualistic thought production. We will explore how to awaken to this.

    Value lived, So the question to myself right now is, how do I resist creating a false clarity by taking notes on such experience indicators used, such as Co-emergence /connectivity? Yet trust that they will emerge from my mouth in my own communication.

    I miss watching James teaching in person with an audience but the wisdom he offers and the clarity of what he shares is really breathtaking. I'm not so interested in practices of Tibetan Buddhism which he often shares but his deep understanding of the psyche, of psychology within the context of Buddhist teaching is profound. I always find myself within his rich commentary on human experience. Thank you for all you do James. Your wisdom is a gift to us all. I appreciate that it is a product of a lifetime of practice and study. Deep respect.

    So why do we expect people to be sorted. This is a delusive fantasy, people are what they are. Bruegel, this great painter, was very good at depicting the complete contorted nastiness of the medieval situation. So this is what we inhabit a Bruegel painting, except we've got better make up these days. That's what it is, we manifest these toxicites, ok so that's how it is. So the purification of anger is by seeing the particular topology, the particular configuration of people with their jealousy's, their pride, nastinesses, selfishness, that's how they are. Ok, why would I expect you to be, in my terms, better than you are, or other than you are. You are what you are. So why be angry. So that's the purification. You see very clearly but it's without expectation. So the purification of anger is the absolute permission for the world to be what it is. At which point all the phenomena of the world say, phew, thank god the judge is having a holiday. Everything in the universe is trembling when we walk down the street because we're saying very good, very bad, I like, I don't like. Huh, this is what the ego feels like and when you attribute value and cut up the world and you make a kind of collage, removing the bits you don't like and making this distorted image, you then get frusted because the world doesn't fit the template that you have. So that's how anger arises. This shouldn't happen - James Low

    The nature of our primordial identity is never touched or scarred by trauma it remains unconditioned or unaffected in the same way that the nature of a mirror is unconditioned or unaffected by the presence of a reflection on its surface. Be confidently assured that your primordial nature, your basic goodness remains intact. That is, in other words, the nature of the reflection has no power or capacity to modify the nature of the mirrors ability to reflect whatever is put before it without judgement or grasping, likewise the nature of a mirror is unaffected by the presence of whatever object is placed before it. Nonetheless there are millions of beings in the world with deep persistent trauma from war, migration, serious persecution in violation of their fundamental rights as human beings such as what happened to indigenous peoples worldwide, genocidal actions, serious mental & physical disabilities, as James said we all are touched by events that may trigger trauma, including but not limited to those mentioned as they are of the most serious of traumas. The tawa or perspective/view of both Mahamudra, Dzogchen and Madhyamaka is that nature of such events is imbued with emptiness, is marked by impermanence and in due course the impact of events will self liberate in one way or another, with ease quickly or slowly, painfully over longer time periods. That is the correct view but if one does not have a strong experiential realization of emptiness, or has a strongly habituated grasping following story telling kind of ego mind, or has merely glimpses or merely has an intellectual understanding of the view of emptiness - that will be of no value in dealing with such serious traumas. So intellectual understanding of what emptiness is without experiential realization of emptiness is of no avail . Dzogchen, Trekcho, Togal, Rushen, Semzins,Upadeshas offer the methods to gain experiential realization - this is so unique as most other non-dual paths only offer a language description of emptiness. It's like me talking at length with fine poetic words about a rare chocolate imbued with maple syrup add goji berries but never actually giving you a piece to experientially taste, leaving you with only dry words. Additionally, imo there certainly is a place for therapies to help relieve the traumatic panic, anxiety, breathing problems, heart problems, recurrent nightmares, flashbacks and unfounded phobias that persons with complex trauma caused PTSD suffer every day and night. It must a personalized therapeutic approach that will tap into skilful means and demonstrate great compassion. Maybe the insights of interpersonal neurobiology will be helpful, acknowledging the relation between trauma and the hippocampus within the brain which has been discovered to store information, memories, akin to the alaya storehouse consciousness spoken about in Buddhism, it may also be useful for a therapist to use consciousness altering drugs or mushrooms to relieve suffering, also cognitive therapies to tackle ingrained habits of dysfunctional thinking patterns and biasis.There is no reason why a parallel skilful means path of 1) Dzogchen & Mahamudra approaches cannot be used simultaneously with 2) various therapies, perhaps each enriching the other. Simply , abiding frequently and repeatedly within the spaciousness of your pristine rigpa consciousness cures all, when you discover this one you discover all. Hope this is helpful.

    This guru yoga or in Tibetan lama'i naljor; nal means at ease or relaxed or natural and jor means to join or union or not to be other than. You might say just this, the just thisness of openness, however it is its just open but you can't homogenise it and say its just this because it's occuring in many different ways. So whether our mind feels bright and fresh, dull, apart or separate, or sad or hopeless whatever is occuring be with it and it's gone. So in the instructions it says stay on the point of the emergence. Not ahead of it with expectation. Not behind it with recollection but on the beat. This is going nowhere. No past, no future, just this. Here gone, here gone. Then within this is finite openness here we are - James Low

    1:49:24 The creativity of our mind, when it is under the power of duality, can grasp any formulation and then elaborate on it with more thoughts, bringing in feelings and associations. So, in very simple terms, unborn awareness is concerned with seeing, being present with, and being here at the site of disclosure, observing how the occurrence is arising. In contrast, dualistic consciousness is concerned with knowing about. As I said earlier, consciousness always takes an object. We think about something, we elaborate on our idea of that something, but awareness is not aware of something. "Somethingness" is a reification, an isolation, a solidification. - James Low

    1:44:33 The guru is not who I think she is. If we really see this deeply, we notice that my parents were not who I thought they were, and my children are not who I think they are. When I think about people, I create an image of them, which I take to be them, but this is not how they actually are. This is upsetting: I create a stable face or image and put it onto the other. I see the other in termos of the mask I project onto them. Can I, really and honestly, in a relaxed easy way, let people be the way they are? Or do I have to keep trying to control other people and make them fit into some karmic template I am committed to upholding? This is quite an upsetting idea. "I can't stop thinking about you. I really love you."' Does this mean that I really love my thoughts about you? Because the more I think about you, the more I cover you in my thoughts about you. - James Low

    1:47:23 How boring and terrible my mind is. I am a prisoner of false knowledge. I am wrapped up in my own opinions, and the more I believe that I see the real truth, the more I simply see what I believe. This is my mental activity. I am like an old incontinent dog. I'm not just pissing on every lamppost; I'm pissing with every step I take. "I know what this is... I know what this is... I know what this is..." This is very limiting. We know very little. - James Low

    When I worked in the psychiatric world people believed in many things and these beliefs were true for the people. Not everyone believed,.'oh ho, you need to be disturbed to have that kind of belief'. The psychiatrist believes what he believes is true. The patient believes that what they believe is true. The psychiatrist says my daddy is bigger than your daddy. So my belief is right. I have degrees and status and your just a patient. It's like that, it's not very different. In the big hospital where I worked the patients cleaned the cars of the consultants. Why, then the consultant can give them some cigarettes. One group is powerful and free, the other is not free and not powerful and these identities are established by belief - James Low

  • @robdowling2124
    @robdowling2124 17 днів тому

    I've said this several times already but we need to look at it again and again. I live in my world. It rings true for me. That is say I believe what I believe. That is solipsistic, in ordinary language it means it vanishes up its own arse, it doesn't go anywhere. I believe in what I believe and therefore I experience what I believe in. You don't believe what I believe you believe what you believe and so you have your experience. But you experience a world which for you is there before your belief. 'I only believe in it because its good and true', may be not - James Low
