NCTD Sprinter
Part one of a series of videos on the North County Transit District (NCTD) Sprinter service, including Horn shows.
Specifications:
This service operates with exclusively Siemens VT642 Desiro which are part of the Desiro Classic series. 12 units are owned by NCTD (4001-4012), 4 units are on the line at any time during the week between 4:33 AM and 10:33 PM with 2 at any time during off peak hours on weekends and holidays (originally with 2 DMU’s before reducing to 1 DMU for every train set, probably cost-cutting from lack of funds)
Maintenance is at the Sprinter Maintenance Facility in Escondido CA, 4005 is always somehow sidelined there(4005 probably for spare parts idk) 2 random Desiros are in the maintenance building for inspection, while the rest remain in the yard awaiting their turn for operation on the line.

Yes. This will be my last video of the Surfline for a while, I’ll start focusing on the MTS Trolley and the lesser known Sprinter as I will be working on my Engine’s of MTS and NCTD series as I hold it off for… a while now

I used to drive these in Germany (they're classed as 642s there). The main horn in the US sounds different to the type mounted on German Desiros, which sound more like the emergency horn. Nice video!

Yes, Siemens Desiro Sprinter trains are still in operation and are the only type of rolling stock for the sprinter
