How much was the school?
HOLY SMOKES: KUDOS ON NOT SAYING “it’s your boy” at the start of your videos like all the drivers with two months driving experience who want to educate the world on their vast knowledge. I think your video is great and informative and way more mature and respectable than 99.5% of those out there. ps. I’ve been driving since 1995 when drivers rarely had a cell phone ( virtually unheard of) at all. Pay phones ruled the world, flying j was a luxury truckstop because they were the only ones with private phone booths, drivers relied on a physical atlas, pay phones, and a 40 channel cb radio. You sound like you came from my world but you didn’t, you probably don’t even wear them unprofessional flip flops either👍😎👍 we need more guys like you out here.
You make great videos my guy. Thank you.
As a seasoned driver u hit the nail on the head man! Good job! I know im a little late to the party but still...👏🏾👏🏾
Yes, this definitely sounds like me. Especially with the way I continue to get in my own way.
You never mentioned details. How much does it cost? Did the employment office pay for it? Is there a job placement? Etc.
@@dontalib2341 they’ve changed a lot since this was uploaded. The cost currently is $5,000 there are community organizations such as “Community action.” That are helping students get their school paid for. Job placement is based on how you come into the program. They reach out to multiple mega carriers such as swift, Schneider and they will workout some sort of contract with a student on how they will cover the cost.
I'm in this stage right now. I've been on my own about 2 weeks, and so far, I've had the worst sleep. It's like im so anxious from the events of the day that i toss and turn. My best part of the day has been in the mornings. I wake up at 3am and leave at 4am. Drinking my coffee and driving when there's barely anyone out is when I'm the most calm. I try to shut down early in the day, like 4pm at the latest, because parking at truck stops makes me nervous. Taking lots of short breaks throughout the day at rest areas has been helping I think.
@@rb-44 it’s always great to get into a rhythm that actually works for you. Sometimes trial and error of different techniques is also a good thing to try. Basically whatever makes you feel the best. Getting into a routine once you park is also a good thing too. Like going for a walk, getting some sun, etc.
Terrible school in 2024
I did auto because I needed my CDL now I am looking at learning how to double clutch. And most fleets are auto, with the exception of construction, indy and tanker ops. Also, I saw alot of students struggling in school and a few have them have failed due to problems shifting. I do see some jobs that require "No Restrictions" so I guess that matters. At least I am working and getting experience driving!
Thx brother. Appreciate your experience
Someone told me anxiety is a worthless worry. You're using your energy to worry about sonething that may or may not come to pass and what if it does? Who the f--k cares. You just keep moving forward regardless.
Yes it does. I can tell you from experience. I have lost out on a lot of good jobs because of the restriction. Even tho I can drive a 18 Speed.
Trucking. Is easy. If. You. Love it
Simply put
For me, it’s the driving all day and no one to talk too. I think drop and hook is worse because you barely get out and do anything. It takes me like 5 min to do a drop and hook and get back on the road it’s tough
I am fighting anxiety every day since i started truck driving in the UK , the fear of getting lost because of the gps is a real challenge. I like you will push forward and get through it.
Same here bro,I’m looking for non driving jobs, done driving for life,I’m 36 now, feel like the driving is ruining my mental health more than anything.at least I know I tried but this isn’t for me.
@@SKODA8 this my fear. I honestly know truck driving isn't what i really want to do. I am just looking for a way out of the shitty entry level jobs that don't pay enough. Ive done delivery jobs in the past and my anxiety just takes over. I am worried about accidents, idiot drivers, traffic jams, and all kinds of paranoia pops in my head.
What happened where you at jac🙉🙉🙉🙉
Did you do otr training and get your own truck after?
How long are the actual days of class? (8 Hours?) Trying to get my schedule prepared
You havent been in the game long enough its a tuff life.
I stay out 4 weeks so i am imune to all your anxieties its tough if you go home every week and i am regional.
Never never never date a trucker!! The worst type of person to date. They lie and play women. Ladies if you're looking at these videos debating on whether it's worth being in a relationship with a trucker let me save you the trouble it's not!
This was the worst experience I ever had at a place that I payed for trying I don’t consider training we’re they explain something then watch you fail at a maneuver, then write you up for a performance and say that you’re not trying on your last two days so instead of working with you and helping you or explaining to you what you’re doing wrong they just sit around on their phone until you’re out of days and then write you up for a performance and say maybe trucking’s not for you or write you up and say that you’re not trying or that you don’t listen to instruction so that they can cover themselves on why you didn’t pass. This place was an absolute joke of a truck driving school maybe others have a different experience at different locations but at my location, it was a joke and don’t try to get your money back that won’t happen. They have every excuse in the world. Why they’re not gonna give you your money back there is zero instruction no one ever would get in the vehicle and watch you and explain why you’re failing or why you’re doing the maneuver wrong 90% of the guys we’re all failing on pre-trip. If I was a teacher and one of my students failed at the third party for pre-trip. I would immediately walk them to the vehicle and say hey show me your pre-trip another thing I didn’t understand is if you failed for pre-trip twice and you go back to get help why are they sitting there doing maneuvers? Should they be on a truck with an instructor learning the pre-trip if that’s why you keep failing no they come back and they work on maneuvers all day instead of pre-trip my first week I got handed a piece of paper and told memorize this not 1 instructor did a pre-trip not one instructor walked the vehicle and did a pre-trip with the class and explain the parts or what we’re doing and then if you failed for your pre-trip they said oh it’s because you didn’t study enough once again, I would never go to 160 it’s a complete joke don’t waste your money. You have better luck joining a trucking company with zero experience it will train you in house matter of fact, a lot of the companies that I talk to or mega carriers prefer their students to not have been to a trucking academy, because they say we learn bad habits, and that it takes longer to untrained you or unteach what you learned at their trucking academies, and they would rather have a student that’s never been taught so you don’t argue with them what you learned at trucking school versus what they’re teaching you in house so now I’ve had companies that don’t even wanna hire me because I went to 160 and won’t even give you a chance because I was already at 160 and they don’t want to untrain what I was taught at the school save your $5000 guys join omega carrier learn in-house and learn the things that you really need to know that you’re not gonna learn at 1:60. 160 so lame they don’t even teach you how to disconnect the trailer or connect the trailer they don’t teach you even simple things you need to know like the proper way to set your mirrors if you call corporate and explain how you feel or the situation that you see they’re not gonna work with you, instead they’re gonna argue and tell you what you see going on there or what’s going on there’s not going on even though all the students are sitting there talking about the same thing now if you’re a driver and for some reason you’re going there to get recertification’s for whatever reason and you already know maneuvers and you already know basically how to drive or your pre-trip then yeah it’s probably a good place to go so you can get your Certs again But if you’re a student that’s never driven a truck and needs help in any part of the training they’re not gonna help you they’re going to give you a speech. This is a fast paced course and then you’re either going to get it or you’re not, and they don’t even have a system set in place for guys that are struggling to maybe like roll back a week instead, they’ll schedule you to go do your test after you failed two times the third time you’ll have to pay 250 bucks if you fail the third time your option is to take the course again which is another $5000. I think it would be a great idea for 160 for students that are having a harder time and don’t grass things as fast as others to get some one on one help or Roback a week or even go on weekends or have a class on the weekends for guys that are having a harder time so they can get more wheel time or even be able to pay a little bit of extra money and get the help that they need instead they take your money if you need help they’re not gonna give you any help and they just want you to re-pay for the entire class again it’s a complete joke. It’s a complete money scam and this one 60 Certs aren’t going to help you out any of the big companies
I went to 160. It was a joke 3 weeks at the yard and only 4 guys passed we had instructor fired for assaulting a female student for absolutely no reason at all. Called her a fat bitch grabbed her by the arm after he was fired, they brought in a few instructors the instructors that knew they were there for limited time so they play on there phones I learn more from the students then I did with the instructors. This place was an absolute joke after your three weeks at the yard if you need any extra help or extra time they want you to fail and pay 5000 dolors for the class again
thanks bro im a trainee and I sat in at orientation at the trucking company im starting to work for and couldn't understand the recap explanation they made it sound so difficult when explaining it your video makes much easier to understand thanks
Wonderful advice, I might add, also have ones DOT medical card and be familiar with the pre trip process. I am enrolled in 160 now in Columbus, Ohio , finished with the classroom, and am waiting for yard training to begin.
Make your own content. Don't just bash others
How much the training cost
How do I find out what I'm gonna get.... I have like 4 more states to hit...
Recaps can kiss my ass.. what I did 3-7 days ago has no bearing on how I can drive. If you take time off to Vaca or switch jobs, the hours you lose do to recaps is substantial. I'd only do 34 for now on. Fuck recaps!
Why don’t you try to do food service ? You don’t have to work 14 hours a day and it’s great pay.
You don't understand how valued this video is. Had a bad first day, with barely any sleep and now waking up to repeat the whole process again
This is what I was looking for
How often do you drive verses doing warehouse work?
I just saw this video, please I need an update. I’m having really bad anxiety only to think that I have to drive a truck. Please how are you doing now. I really want to quit my job and do something else. Someone please give me a recommendation. Thanks
Don't quit unless you know for a fact it's something you can't do on a long term basis. Most of these feelings are short term emotions that go away after you settle in. Just finished my first day, and literally had severe anxiety for the next day, but I'm fighting through it.
@@BinaryTechnique how are you holding up?
Amen!!!! The day I started school, I had problems with my car.....have to move 😭😭..
Bro appreciate the video cause I’m in saint louis and starting either august 1st or 8th and really told me what to focus on as far as what to study I really appreciate that
Have you started class yet ?

@@waynenation678 my permit test, yes….. in my 2nd week of the yard….. first time driving the 53fts and it’s challenging but I know it’s gone come around to me the more I’m behind the wheel
Thank you for ur advice man most drivers don't talk about this
I start August 2 2022 just checking to see how this is going to be. I have no prior experience and no nothing about driving big trucks. But I love to drive and love mechanics. 160 in Memphis on Shelby drive
Remember these abbreviations for the Pre- Trip inspection P.M.S = properly mounted and secured ....EVERYTHING IS PROPERLY MOUNTED AND SECURED.... C.B.B = Cracked, Bent, Broken ...if its metal or plastic it can be cracked bent or broken... A.B.C= Abrasions, Bulges, Cuts ..Anything thats rubber or plastic .. Ex= Clearance lights They are (PMS) properly mounted and secured they are not (CBB) cracked, bent or broken they are clean and clear. Amber in color and free of condensation If you can remember those abbreviations you'll be better off than the next guy
Did you go im in Memphis I’m thinking bout goin I just got my permit yesterday
How that go in Memphis ?
I was in a class like that
you are encouraging. i'm in first week of training and already wondering what the hell have i gotten myself into lol.....please tell me it gets better as skill sets are developed...
Everything is hard at first stop being a girl
Lmao bro finished my first day, slept 4 hours and now I have to get up and repeat yesterday all over again 😭😭
How can I get my permit? I thought you had to go to the dps and get a book to study then schedule a test? I’m located in Houston tx Thanks alot
You are a good honest soul my friend.
If you already have the permit do you skip the classroom time and go straight to the yard on the 1st week?
I want to know this also
@@joshualawrence7847 i actually have been enrolled in the 160 driving academy school. I found out that weather you have a permit or not at the time you enroll in the class ....you will still have to take the 40 hr class the first week... Its 40hr in class and 120hr practicing maneuvers and driving
@@briankeith757 thanks man! I sign up tomorrow. I have my Class B with Hazmat & Tankers. Time for an upgrade
Was the Class A permit test a lot of combination vehicle questions or general knowledge?
@@joshualawrence7847 50 for General Knowledge 20 for airbrakes 25 for combination
This is good info. Thanks.
Mostly all these companies are reverting to automatics having a restriction does not matter you can make the save money if not more, having said all that it doesn't hurt to learn a new skill
I finally kinda understand what a recap is lol, I have under 4 hours left on my 70 and says I'm gaining 9.5 hours but I'm doing my 34 reset right now. I'm gonna look into recaps more.
Thanks brother. Going to be taking local driving school in Washington State & wanted to know oeoples opinions between manual and auto. Peace
160 sucks I did get my CDL but I feel like they could’ve been more hands on… I only drove 2 or 3 times there good things I drove yard dog for a year
Hello can you tell me how much will it cost for out of pocket I'm here in Dayton Ohio please and thank you
