Nature Change
United States
Приєднався 17 жов 2014
The Nature Change UA-cam channel provides quick access to the video essays and documentary shorts developed by a group of nonprofit organizations in Northwest Lower Michigan.
We created naturechange.org to fuel public discussions about natural resource management and adaptation in response to climate change, invasive species, changing Great Lakes water levels and other environmental challenges. Focused on Northwest Lower Michigan, this magazine delivers beautifully illustrated text-based articles, photo-essays, and short video presentations that bear witness to the on-going changes in our natural resources, document the responses of volunteer conservationists and natural resource organizations, and grapple with the challenges of adapting to change. We want to foster a healthy on-going discussion about how to preserve and, possibly re-make one of the world’s most beautiful places, our northern Michigan paradise.

Restoring Aquatic Ecosystems
Six years ago, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians formed Michigan’s first indigenous-led, multi-agency collaborative to restore and protect the ecology of our streams and rivers. "Restoring Aquatic Ecosystems" is a 26-minute documentary that shines a light on these nonprofit and governmental organizations working together to restore the natural flow in Michigan’s streams and rivers - often called ”the arteries of mother earth.”
WCMU Public Television was the first to broadcast and cablecast this documentary on Sunday, October 2, 2022. The film is also available through Nature Change (naturechange.org).

In this short documentary, we join experts and volunteers working to protect and restore this uniquely ...
Restoring the Crystal River - and Removing a Culvert Calamity
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
This short documentary film is about several big problems that overlap, literally. This film is also about governmental and nonprofit organizations working together to turn problems into opportunities. Restoring the Pine - Erosion Control & Habitat Improvement
Переглядів 4,2 тис.3 роки тому
This past summer (2021), the sounds of trucks, bobcats and excavators echoed down from the high bluffs above the Pine River in Northwest Lower Michigan as a new kind of sediment control structure was pieced together. Attempting to mimic nature, the Conservation Resource Alliance (CRA) and its partners designed and built a log jam like no other in Michigan, stabilizing a sand bluff and creating ...
The Fight for Lake Leelanau
Переглядів 3 тис.3 роки тому
Huge sheets of burlap, monster suction hoses, and teams of scuba divers are all part of the war on Eurasian Watermilfoil invading Lake Leelanau. In the second year of the fight, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and the Lake Leelanau Lake Association are making real progress in lake restoration - including some re-planting of native plants. To see how and what this partners...
Brookie Lessons

In this short video, we visit a little creek or “brook” in southern Leelanau County fed by groundwater springs and flowing toward Lake Leelanau. Why Shore Armoring Inevitably Fails
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
In this short film, Professor Guy Meadows (Great Lakes Research Center, Michigan Technological University) describes how high-water levels and waves are changing the shorelines of the Great Lakes through a constant process of erosion, movement, and deposition. Shore structures installed to stop erosion such as revetments may block the erosive forces of Lake Michigan’s waves and high waters for ...
