Good descriptions
If you play Ankh again, make sure to plan for the merge ahead of time, or point it out to the 2 bottom scorers ahead of time. If you see yourself merging, the lower god should focus on points, the higher god on board presence and building monuments. I think the merge mechanic feels bad if the players are blindsided by it, it's on the teacher / more experience players to explain it properly to make sure it goes over well. Next time you play with more than 2 players, try to teach or think of the game as having 2 halves/phases... the first part of the game is all about positioning yourself for the grand finale (after the merge). Top player wants to have a big enough lead on the merged Gods or they WILL catch up! That said, you're right, 2p is super solid chess like experience
Thank you for the insight. The next time I play the game I’m going to pull up your comment and read it aloud as part of the teach! Actually you explaining it the way you did makes me want to play it. Looks like I’ll be pulling out Ankh this week.
Enjoying your channel!
I am 1 minute into this video and I just want to say Parks better be here! 😡 .... nah just kidding ! even if that game isn't on the list I really like your Vibe and I wish you all the best with you new channel! I just subscribed : )
Thank you for watching and subscribing 🫶🏼 Parks is a great recommendation! Great intro to resource management, worker placement, and end game objectives. Plus that art is stunning.
@@BoardonaShelf I agree, specially with the artwork part, such great illustrations! also, I get somr people say it's too light, well, it's meant to be, it's an intro game, but if you would like to add more complexity, the Nightfall expansion is awesome! keep up the great work my friend, one day you'll be up there in dozens of thousands of subscribers! cheers!
Another great video! I feel the same about King of Tokyo. I got rid of it at one point, them promptly re acquired it. It always lands so well with new players.
There was a point where I almost did the same thing because I was getting a little snobby with my board game collection but I’m really glad I didn’t
Thank you for the video! Love the list 🫶🏼 keep up the content ✨
There is very nice calming energy around you.
That’s so kind of you. Thank you!
Thanks for the list!
Awesome video! I too get a lot out of hearing why games don't work out for some people. Totally random question: Do I recognize you from Ettin's board game flea market, ABQ? You look darn familiar.
Thank you for watching and that totally is me! So cool to hear from a local gamer 😁
@@BoardonaShelf Thought so. I picked up Caesar's Empire from you a couple of markets back. Keep up the fantastic work with the channel! Your presentation is excellent!
I felt the same thing with Arborea. So many moving parts that you just go for one thing and wait for the game to end
I'm so upset you didn't remember Darrow's name. I'm gonna keep watching out of spite 😠
I am so embarrassed about that 😭
Art Decko is in my top 20 of all time. I love it...but if you played it with the full 4 players: that would be rough. It's fantastic at 2 and a slight drop with 3. That is because the main draw is the control over the art values AND the battle in the Museum for getting the points and bonuses. With 4 players: that is HARD to both keep track of AND it's hard to look at the board state and plan. 2 players is best because you CAN have control over both and plan a bit...espeically because you are NOT allowed to 'buy up' all the art in one market. The fact that if you empty one market and that it fully refreshes is awesome too. Plus with this and all games: if people don't fully understand what they are trying to do but do know the rules; it would be boring. My wife plays this way with new games: she can obey the rules but has NO idea why she is doing what she is doing for strategy.
Those are all really great points. All of the times I really enjoyed it was at two players. I think I had just imagined it would shine at a larger player count because it’s an economy based game but that clearly isn’t the case for this one.
@@BoardonaShelf I think that's the case for many games where the board state changes: if you have 3 other players in the game: you cannot 'plan' for certain things; you are just left with a random board state. Strategy goes out the window and when it feels random: it's not as fun. Five Tribes is a perfect example!
Just discovered your channel, instantly smitten with it
So many games, so little time!
Well this is a nice chill channel.
Five more turns in Evacuation would make it go way too long (and everyone could finish all of their plans), with more experienced players. My scores in the first four games were 35, 49, 69 and then 94. The learning and improvement is Exactly what makes it brilliant. In the fourth game, the winning score was 108. The best games need learning games. Room for player improvement is good, because it means the experience does not get stale. If it was not so punishing on first play, then it also would not be so rewarding on the fourth. The punishment gets gentler and gentler. For contrast, An Age Contrived is easy on first play, but feels very shallow for it. It feels like there isn't much to learn.
You make some great points. Five more turns was definitely a poor exaggeration. I am so impressed with how the game is designed to make you better and better after each play and I can imagine that process is very rewarding as you watch your skill progress. For me, it just wasn’t enjoyable enough on my first 5 games to make we want to keep coming back. It definitely went to a good home though! The gentleman I sold it to was very very happy to have found a copy.
Loove the video! I look forward to all your future content ❤ Just wondering, are we able to purchase these games from you by chance 🙏🏽🥹
Unfortunately I sold almost all of them at a local board game sale 😭 the only ones I have left are Endangered, WotR, Red Rising, and King of 12. Thank you for watching! I’m looking forward to putting out more content soon.
youre right about roll player. its ok, but i much prefer the simpler original game
If you got rid of Hansa Teutonica and Evacuation, I think this channel isn't going to be a fit for me. I appreciate your views, but honestly WTH dude? If you felt like you needed 5 more turns in Evacuation, maybe try with the beginner friendly race mode. You just need more time to get better at it. And hansa is my number 1 game of all time. EVER! find different people to play with. It's worth it for HT! This was my first time watching your video. All the best with your channel 💝
@@SAUPAYANMAZUMDAR With all due respect, thinking a channel isn't for you because he's getting rid of your favorite game seems like a close minded way to go. I'd understand it if most of the games weren't for you, but if your decision relies on his feelings on two games, then I'm speechless...
There are definitely some games that I already regret getting rid of - Hansa Teutonica being the biggest regret. Luckily I know some people who have it so I can keep trying it out. Evacuation is tough though! I really wanted to like it and I played it so many times trying to get more out of it but I just couldn’t get into it and appreciate it. Which is frustrating for me as a euro gamer because I can tell it’s such a good design. Oh well! I love Woodcraft and Praga so much that I still consider myself a Suchy fan
@@dabanyas honestly, I’m glad you’re speechless because whatever you did speak was senseless. You make wide overarching unsubstantiated assumptions and even worse, make logically flawed arguments. Let me help you on the later front first- the list is a list of games he’s getting rid of. So if they weren’t for me, I would agree with him. Your argument should go “If most of these games are ones you like…”. Which brings me to the first point-unsubstantiated assumptions. Just coz I mentioned 2 games doesn’t mean I don’t like the others. There are too many games on the list which are some of my favorites. The reason I specifically mentioned those two is that one of them is my number 1 game ever and the other is from my number 1 (favorite) designer ever. So no, it’s not JUST these 2, but these are the 2 which hurt the most Now coming to the first line of your argument… Getting rid of games = not good enough for him My fav game(s) = games I will keep even if I were to get rid of everything else If these are the same set of games, do you see that his choices and mine don’t exactly overlap? It would be easier to explain with a Venn diagram but I hope you get the point. If that is true, what other reason could there be for you to think the channel might be for me? You did get one thing right though - one of us is close minded
@@BoardonaShelf that’s great to know! I personally don’t care for praga much though suchy is my fav designer. If you like his stuff, I will recommend my fav suchy game - pulsar 2849
Strange > We completely disagree about WOTR > The card game is fantastic with sooo many options! And we prefer it much more than the heavy board game (that we sold back)!
I feel like you’re definitely in the majority though! I have a theory it might have to do with the order you’re introduced to them. Some people I know who played the big one first like the card more and then a few others who played the card game first liked the big one more.
This is great! Thank you! Mind Mgmt is a game I think I'd love so I'm excited to check it out.
You definitely should! It’s so unique. It was hard for me to part with it.
There is going to be a LOTR edition of 7 Wonders Duel. Great 2p game in 30 minutes.
Instant buy for sure
Great video! My husband and I found that pinning the huge Micro Macro map to the wall worked best. We left it up for a few weeks while we tackled all the cases.
Oh my gosh that’s a great idea. If I ever get the urge to play it again I will most definitely be doing that.
Happy to see a queer board game youtuber! Keep it up!
Why does what sexually arouses him matter so much to you people?
@@Digger-Nick you are the one bringing up sexual arousal. Queer is not necessarily a categorization of his sexual orientation, but can be used as a cultural term for LGBT people.
You got rid of so many games that I would not be able to let go of! But, the longer I spend in this hobby, the more I realize that I don't need every game. I hope that you continue to play tons of fun games!
I love board games so much but it’s a sad truth that they take up so much space. So if you don’t play them it’s best to say goodbye 😭
I loved hearing your perspectives on all of these games. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching, and thank you for all of your great videos too!
Have you looked at the summary sheet for Kokopelli on BGG? I've never played the game, so not sure if it's useful or not.
Oh yeah that sheet is a must use for sure. The game only comes with one of those sheets so passing it around can get pretty annoying and sometimes let people know what’s in your hand. I should have printed some more off
The box looks a little empty for such a high price point.
this is the EXACTLY the kind of video i look for when im looking for new games! please make more of these !!!!
Thank you for watching! More coming soon 😁
Quite stingy of them not to have the negotiation board with plastic tokens in the titan box, nor some of the micro expansions. At this price point...
I agree. Seems a little weird.
Nice hair
Planet Unknown 4/10? 😵 Why? Also, I see you have Mille Fiori behind you. I'm considering to buy it, so what are your thoughts on that game? 😁
Eeeek I know! Looking back I should have rated it higher. Mechanically it’s a 7.5/10 for me but as far as polyomino games go, this one didn’t sing for my groups. It was too hard for my non gamers and lacked depth while feeling gimmicky with my gamer group. World Wonders was an all around better experience for me. Yes I am 100000% in for Mille Fiori. It was my number one game of last year. I just got through playing it with a group of non gamers and they loved it and want to show it off to others. It’s also one of the few games my gamer friends have asked to play multiple times. Definitely check it out.
@@BoardonaShelf thank you for the response ❤️
Ark Nova, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Massive Darkness 2, and Ankh sound super super fun!! But honestly I feel like I’ll be right there with Paul on Ark Nova🤣
Oh yes I’m sure you would love Ark Nova, it’s amazing!
Soooo Forest Shuffle sounds adorable! Also this cafe needs to be a place we go whenever I make it over there🤣
Forest shuffle is great! You have to try it with us
Ughhhh I love you guys!!! When you guys are back in town, we need to play some games! Especially So Clover! That game sounds so fun lol Hopefully it will be soon!
Oh my gosh yes! It will have to be soon.
Great channel! This randomly showed up in my feed and I subbed.
Thank you for watching and subscribing! It’s very much appreciated.
Both of you have incredibly soothing voices!!! Thanks for these lists!
That is such a compliment 😭 thank you for watching!
Well done, interesting list. I've found this video in my algorithm, and I've subscribed. Since you are starting, I'm wishing you good luck! Thanks for the videos. :)
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I’m glad we found our way to you and I hope we can keep your interest. Happy gaming!
What a handsome boi!!!
What a pleasant and well-made overview video for this great game! Thank you very much!
Great first video, good luck with the channel! Do you guys have a Discord server already?
Thank you! We had a great time with it. No Discord yet, but it’s in the works!
@@BoardonaShelf Amazing! Looking forward to it and to your future content.
You both make board games sound fun and exciting. Now I want to play a board game. Wallace is just too adorable.
Glad to see you guys had fun in the process!!
