My top 5 games I played in 2024 is actually going on right now at your store. Every Tuesday at 6:30. The difference in my list is, I had no specific criteria the year wasn't just coming out in 2024. My list goes like this. 1. Dominion+ Expansions, specifically Plunder & Rising Sun 2. Life of the Amazonia 3. Bark Ave. 4. Dead Reckoning 5. Rolling Heights The next 5 would've been my Top 10, if there was a Top10 favorite list. 6. Wyrmspan 7. World Wonders 8. Cities 9. Obsession 10. The Crew Mission Deep Sea I could change the bottom 5 around😅? I do like them all😃! Honorable mention (number 11 or 12?) Bitoku & Lizard Wizard
Great picks! I wish we had a place like this close to where I live.
We must have very similar tastes! I just got both Nova Roma and El Grande last month. I haven't played them yet, but I heavily research games before purchasing. Thus, I'm usually very happy with them once played. I've been on the fence about getting Kutna Hora, not because I don't think I will like it, but because I know it will be difficult to table. It's probably at that complexity level that is just outside of what I can spring on my friends and family. Thanks again for making your videos, really enjoying the vibe. 😊
I wish we could play some games together! Sounds like we’d have a great time. Thanks for watching. Kutna hora is a hard one to table, especially because new players will most certainly struggle against people who have played before.
Great video! I really appreciate the thoughtful discussion of each of these games. I'd love to see more! And, I will definitely check out your shop/cafe the next time visiting Santa Fe.
Just a short jump down to Albuquerque!
Love the video guys! As a casual tabletop gamer, I learned about a lot of new games I will be checking out.
Great job, everyone. I really enjoyed this.
It was a great time. Thank you for watching!
I've only been to Empire a couple of times, back when my kid was swimming at UNM. Very cool place. Enjoyed the lists! I just played Nucleum last week, and it's easily my favorite of the year.
You forgot Arcs!
Hmmm I agree… we’ll have to wait for Antonio’s list -Antonio
We did mention that we unfortunately hadn't been able to play it yet.
I try to include stuff that takes me deeper in the game: sight, sound, touch etc. Try immersive sound or music sometimes people made a playlist they share on Spotify
I absolutely ADORE Quacks of Quedlinberg! It was one of the first of the modern board games and helped solidify my love of the new games. :)
Thank you! Definitely gonna get this game now
I love my label maker for games, and also got a good deal on a laminator for some things I print out from BGG
Love these types of videos. Thanks for sharing!
KoT is still one of my favorite and still in my top 10 list. Such a great game to introduce people to, and a lot of fun expansions to always change gameplay if it ever starts to get stale.
Where and how do you sell your games?
One of my local game stores has an annual “Board Game Garage Sale” and that’s where I sold most of these. However in other cases I sell them on Facebook. There’s a group called “Board Game Exchange - the original buy, sell & trade board game group” that has hundreds of games for sale every week. You can make posts on there too if you’re interested in selling your games!
What is the link to the label maker?
The label maker I use is the Phomemeo P3100D which uses a phone app. However I’ve also used the Brother brand label makers and those work great too!
Great video. Huge kudos for showing gameplay and really explaining it well.
Absolutely love this one! Also, LOVE the quality of your videos. Refreshing to see crispy video. Subbed. Keep it up.
Nice list! Good picks, but I like the reasons for your picks as well Regarding the Hotness Track: I would personally highly discourage just looking up The Hotness track and picking anything from the list. The Hotness doesn't necessarily represent games "people are into right now", more games people are massively talking about, for what reason whatsoever. Could be controversies, hype, something terrible or genuine interest. Ethnos for example is on the hotness because of a controversial re-release, with the controversy being about how some people love or hate the new theme of the game. Other games might be on the Hotness all of a sudden because of an expansion releas.e This doesn't mean at all that this game would necessarily be a good game to gift another (board gamer). Good chance the person you are giving a gift to might not be into the type of game it is, but I would agree the Hotness might be a good list to look at games that _could potentially be interesting_. Caution regarding the top 100 ranking as well - there is a huge bias on BGG ratings towards more complex games. But I think we can all agree that a board game isn't necessarily better or more fun because it is more complex, but if you would follow that ranking, you'd think it's actually true. You might get something that looks cool and sounds fun (take Mage Knight the Board Game for example) but it might require a terrible amount of effort or commitment to the point it might not be worth it in the end. Some games on there are really good, but for really specific people (another example: Twilight Imperium 4th Edition). So yeah as was mentioned, make sure it's actually something you think your friend would like. Regarding the complexity bias, I think someone wrote an article on this and made a new ranking correcting for the bias towards complexity. I think the number one game that came out on top was Codenames, which in my mind already sounds a lot more giftable than the Current No. 1: Brass: Birmingham, which really isn't a game for everyone. Looking up the list might be a good idea if you are unsure about what your friend might enjoy.
Good choices! I can tell you out a lot of thought into the list and it's not the same old same old recommendations
Love the video! Thank you Antonio 🫶🏼 Look forward to the next one!
I like to keep my BGG collection and wishlist up to date so anyone who knows me and my username can just look up what I currently have and am interested in having!
I love coloured silicon muffin cups as ressource holders. We can easily colour-code them with the ressources and they will not break if dropped.
Oh my gosh that’s such a great idea
Box inserts, sleeves, resource bowls, card holders, and any plastic/metal/wood upgraded components
Card sleeves are so annoying and unnecessary, and you say it’s not big deal if someone is damaging your property but it is a big deal, say hey please treat my game with respect, and any decent human being should listen, if they don’t then don’t invite them to board game night, and like how is a flimsy ass sleeve gonna stop a chronic card bender from doing it anyway
I have found sleeves to be very useful in some (not all cases). You may be surprised with how some quality sleeves can increase the stiffness of the card. Another, and perhaps the main reason I really enjoy sleeves is because they preserve cards pretty well so if I decide to sell or give away a game the cards are basically in new condition when I give them the game. Like I said in the video I’m not as big on them as I used to be. But I do find them useful in a lot of cases.
@ for people who plan on selling games I see why they’re useful, but other than that they just make the experience less fun imo
I love how sleeved cards play and shuffle
@ i tried and just found it slightly annoying, I’m sure for some people tho sleeves are the way to go
@@opuppeto4054 Sleaved cards are much easier to shuffle without damaging, plus I can eat snacks without messing up the cards. Win win.
Wonderfully produced video. Keep it up you should get heaps of subscribers soon!
That is so kind. Thank you for the encouragement!
Oh noooo! Why flamecraft 😩😢
Dude, the labelmaker is such a great idea! Oftentimes my friends want to help me clean up but they don't know where to put what and I have a general idea hiw I want to sort it, so I do it alone because we don't want to mix things up. With labeled bags everyone could help and speed up the process. Also, the table mat... I made the mistake to buy 4 seperate mats but we never use them because they are either too big or too small. But with a table-sized mat that problem would be gone. I'm kind of irritated that I haven't come up with this idea myself. Very helpful tips, thank you!
Great video, thank you
These videos are incredible!!! Do you have any contact info?
Thank you! The email is in the description ✨
cool idea with the photo storage box! i love to take small games with me on holidays in small boxes and this is great solution to store them flat and tiny. thank you!
I'm SO happy that Nova Roma is shown some love, it's a great game! You Sir, have a new subscriber thanks to that pick 😊 Looking forward to more videos.
It’s so good!
Great video Antonio! I actually finally got my hands on El Grande because of your January Recap vid! Would LOVE to see a play through video of the game 🫶🏻
El Grande is such a awesome game. One of the best.
Why did you speed up the video
It’s something I do while editing and in this case I forgot to undo it… whoops. Good eye!
great video! ive always wanted to try el grande
Great video! Kutna Hora, and Nova Roma, are games that I'm very interested in, but haven't got around to trying them, yet.
I have to subscribe to any channel that recommends El Grande.
A very enjoyable video, and as usual your passion shines as brightly as a lighthouse. I look forward to hearing more about your favourite 'more complex' type games.
Where your dice rolling trays at
I used to use them a lot more but once I built my game table I didn’t use them as much
Thank you for this video!
It's really sad when you love a board game but you can find anyone that want to play it with you 😢 I feel you
Loved this video. Some of the points are overworked but probably that is just me, as someone new to boardgames would like the amount of detail. I would never manage with the case, though. The game box art is part of the gaming experience for me.
I appreciate the honestly and feedback. Definitely a work in progress
I don’t love warps edge and I’m a solo board gamer. Sometimes games lots of people love just don’t vibe with you.
Ahh man, a label maker is such a great idea. LOVE that. Great, clean video! 😄
Hey thank you for watching! I absolutely love your content so I’m a bit giddy seeing your comment 😄
Have you checked out Board Game Butler? I've been getting tons of use out of my set.
That was my number 7! I’ve really been loving them. My only hold up is that most of my boards that warp are the dual layer boards and those don’t fit on them.
Great video!
my personal intro games were king of tokyo and ticket to ride. i still adore those games even though i play much heavier ones nowadays. still have my copies too. i also remember playing small world way back then and absolutely hating it, but i gave it another shot a few weeks ago after not having played it in over a decade and really enjoyed it haha i played "let's go to japan" recently and it was incredible! if my friend hadnt bought a copy, i'd definitely grab it myself. it's different enough from something like, say, tokaido, that both are worth playing. wandering tower looks SO cool tbh cascadia is in my current top 5. beautiful game, super relaxing and fun. have you played the expansion? great video! these are solid choices for intro games
great video! i still need to make the jump and get a label maker. i like using different sized baggies for different components (no point in using a big bag for just a few) and some games have so much stuff i gotta remember which stuff goes in what bag lol. i also love playmats. i use a giant sized neoprene mat for my computer setup, and eventually wanna get a table sized one for games. feels so much better than struggling to pick cards up right off the table
Enjoyed the vid, thank you.
