Oh hi.
Inspired in no small part by the song I've covered therein, here's a video after *checks notes* over 2 and a half years. Admittedly, it's not a 30-year absence in a long and globally succesful career, but it's what I've got for you.
This song was a grower for me. After a week or so I gouldn't get it out of my head, so decided to do a quick video. Quick become slow as I found myself relearning half of the things I used to do, and finally I'm happy enough with it.
Hopefully I'll get the chance to make more now. I'm unlikely to be mega productive, and the fact I don't have an actual piano is a rather glaring drawback, but we'll see how it goes. Btw, this is the first time I've used any kind of electronic instrument on this channel. It's recorded as audio line in, though, not midi, so all mistakes remain steadfastly unaltered. Enjoy!

A bit of R.E.M. today. This is an album track off New Adventures in Hi-Fi, and it's kinda creepy af. The lyrics start off sickly and just spiral downwards from there, all kind of building up to a cacophany inside the character's head by the end. REASONS FOR PANIK: I love this song. Especially the final crescendo near the end. But why are there two very slightly different versions? I recorded this group of tunes a good while back when I had access to a grand piano. Wow. To me, covers of Jeff Lynne's ELO songs are often almost cringy, and it takes something extra to do it right. This was actually great, because it - in my ears at least - exposes the intricate patterns in this song by reproducing them with extra clarity. The only thing I believe I am missing, is a change down at 3:46 or so. I could be wrong? Wonderful for sure!
Oh wow, good spot! I never even noticed that. You're quite right, the melody in that line should come in on "I only meant...", with "Twilight" sung in harmony only. That's a hangover from playing this song solo on the piano, I just sing the "Twilight" without thinking about it.
@@Josephplayspiano I'm not a musician, so it's difficult for me to talk about "technical" aspects of music (keys, chords, bars etc). But having listened to Time countless times since I first heard it in full at a classmate's birthday party in November 1981, I know every song by heart. So I guess my age gives me an advantage to you. But you are a good musician and singer.

Why does everyone sing the word meter wrong? Just because Michael sang it wrong doesn’t mean everyone else has to lol. Other than that small nitpick, great work guys
If I were to sing it as I would pronounce it, the accent would be on the “dom” of speedometer, which would - ironically - alter the metre of the line. I’d argue this pronunciation is closest to that spoken pronunciation as it’s possible to be within this rhythm. I would not use a long e in “meter” there in speech - although oddly, I would in kilometre…
