The reason I'm feeling guilt right now, 3 weeks before I start a new job, is that I have an immense workload that I won't even get 10% done before I leave. It'll then get dumped on my coworkers and will probably make my current boss think I've been lazy the past few months.

Pretty much most of what you've spoken resonates. Here i am, a childless (by choice) widow on the cusp of 44 with no degree &, until recently, no desire to go back to school (I've several comm. college credits under my belt - if they're even still valid - from when I was in my 20's). I just always felt lost & stuck due to the needs of my very large family over my lifetime (I was pretty much an oldest child & second mom to several of my siblings & cousins & even to my own parents). All that to say I'm certain the aforementioned had certainly contributed to my setbacks, but not entirely. I don't regret giving of myself to my loved ones for a second. As to what is pushing me forward re. career choice? Digital Marketing & Bookeeping on the side (both of which I've no experience in but am not at all intimated to learn!).

The "you can be anything" part was interesting. I did really well in school and was told things like that. But I felt lacking and somehow deeply flawed my entire adult life because I can't always do the things I want or that other people think I can or should do. I end up avoiding everything and underachieving. It's something I'm working on.

I think one site mentions environmental engineering, but that's _three_ semesters of calculus... massage therapy exam is incredibly difficult and you can develop hand and back pain over time, most librarian jobs require a master's... adulting is hard

in brief : In this video, Laura Sims discusses the difference between wanting to quit your job and being ready to quit. She highlights common reasons for wanting to quit, including emotional triggers, physical triggers, culture/values clashes, crises of meaning, and growth dead ends. Laura then explains the three things you need to be ready to quit: 1. Know what's next: Understand what you want from your career and what needs to change. Focus on moving towards something instead of just running away from your current job. 2. Have a transition plan: Quit with integrity and a practical plan in place, ensuring you move from one job to another without causing unnecessary stress. 3. Feel confident about quitting: Quit when you feel proud of your decision and eager to share your skills with an employer who values you. Laura notes that there are exceptions to these guidelines, such as when someone is in an abusive situation or when their health is at risk. She recommends her free training (linked in the video description) to help viewers develop a roadmap for finding a meaningful career.

As a 67 year old fart (yeah, Sis, I’m THAT old, now 😊) I’ve gotten to the point where I’m enjoying retirement and still working in theatre whenever I feel like it. And, now, I work retail 3-4 days a week just to get out of the house. I knew nothing about retail when I started, but have learned a lot during the past year. My sister by blood, who worked in retail for decades, laughed when I told her I’d gone into retail part time. Speaking of which, she changed careers in middle age and now teaches special needs students are her youngest daughter’s old high school. So you now have two more examples in the family. 😊 And one of these days, you two need to meet, Sis. ❤
