@@southmassrailfan I believe they were waiting to get the gates open at the yard on the northbound return trip. They do a lot of weird things in Upton to get the job done quicker as it can take abt 2 hours. Sometimes though not often another locomotive would follow the GU-1 into Upton and then switch out the yard but it hasn’t happened in a bit.

It’s been around since 2010 and it went out of service in early 2016 but they recently put it back in service due to increasing traffic levels.

They're OD around 7 AM in North Grafton and tend to leave anytime between 8:15-9:30 but can be later depending on work. It takes about 35 - 45 minutes to get to Upton yard and 15 - 20 minutes from Upton to Hopedale. Sometimes they'll drop some cars off at Grafton Center for storage so that's another variable that can take a bit. It's best to use a scanner as they can stay at yards for sometime. On most Tuesdays and Thursdays (sometimes Wednesdays and Fridays) they tend to go to Bellingham. They tend to return to N. Grafton in the mid and sometimes late afternoon.

@@dcrailmedia8054 Yes, the only thing is it sounds really fake like just a recording of a horn. Many other goal horns sound like a horn in person and not recorded

Part of the reason, they stopped about a half mile before the crossing and it takes a while for a few locomotives and a train of that size to get up to speed.

No problem! This video is pretty old but it’s still sort of relevant, 8019 at the time was sent on L002 because it got sent out to Selkirk for other work.

I normally hear them from my house and I can normally get a good sense of where they are most of the time. I also got people contacting about the location of the trains as well.

@@southmassrailfan If you have Facebook, you should join Grafton & Upton Railfans, I tend to post updates on whenever I see or hear them regularly. If you want to see them in the morning, I’d suggest going to their yard in North Grafton at around 7 or 8 AM. They normally tend to leave North Grafton 8:15-9:30 AM (sometimes 10 but not very often). You can normally see them in Hopedale from 9:30 - 11:30, there have been instances of them getting into Hopedale at around 12 PM - 1 PM but that doesn’t happen a lot.

To be fair it’s the not best angle at this location but it’s not the worst lol

Lol. I always catch it on the side with the bell But that angle shows so much more that you can’t get on my side without being in the middle of the road.
