I walked across this bridge every Sunday afternoon for many years in the 80's and 90's. My grandparents lived up by 1st Baptist and after supper, I went on long walks across the bridge to see my favorite house on Gwyn Ave. My mom worked at Hugh Chatham for many years in the 60's and 70's too. My father, however, hated that bridge and was terrified to go across it. I was living in Conover in 2011 and had my 2nd child when they tore it down. I wish I'd known and taken a piece of concrete as a memento. I remember hating the "new" bridge when it was built, and now my eldest is on her way back from the store and just went across it. Time absolutely flies. 😢
