Yuri Uri

Pretty obvious Johnny had his orders to discredit!

"Ray did?!" I love Fiennes tone: the kind of one he'd use to a neighbour telling him one of his children or a pet did something to their garden. Mild to moderate caring, but will still use any new information (as Harry does) to defend said child/pet, no matter what they did, against an "outsider". Adds depth to the character. Also suggests he may be a "cunt", but he's a cunt with some sense of responsibility for the actions of the people under him.

I loved this movie, and I loved the character of Yuri. He deserves his own film. I love this movie so much, that I will spend a week or two in Bruges to give the final touches and review to the novel I am writing right now. Such a beautiful city, and such a great film. One of my favorites! Also, being called a “poof” by an Irish gangster is probably the funniest thing ever. “Dude, am I supposed to be offended by that?”

I've just noticed that he mocks the uzi, but to the right of it is... what the fuck is that? a flaregun? but then he didn't come here to signal a team of guerilla insurgents to cross the border, he wants a normal gun for a normal person

More f bombs per sentence than any movie in history I think

This film script really is the best. Some film makers forget the importance of a good script and make do with lots of improv, which doesn’t always work that well (e.g. Joanna Hogg's Archipelago, which is a stinker of a movie cos most of it seems to be either improv or written so that it feels like improv). In Bruges on the other hand is a masterwork. These short scenes are really something else. Even the studied reaction of Yuri when he learns about nooks and crannies.

Just for the gun nerds, when Harry says "An Uzi!?..." the camera shot focuses in on one of the guns on the table. A Steyr TMP. What's interesting is that not only is this not an Uzi, but half cut-off in the same shot is an actual full-size Uzi. I'm not sure why this happens, I can only assume that shot was directed by somebody who doesn't know their firearms that well, but that the armourer read the script and deliberately included an Uzi for this line.

When I hear the word alcoves in mixed company I think of this movie.

I've been to Bruges many times and always smile when I see the swans thinking "It's a fairytale fucking town'" Harry - "How can a fairytale town not be somebody's fucking thing? How can all those canals and bridges and cobbled streets and those churches, all that beautiful fucking fairytale stuff, how can that not be somebody's fucking thing, eh? Ken - "What I think I meant to say was... Harry - "Are the swans still there? Ken - "Yeah, the swan's..." Harry - "How can fucking swans not fucking be somebody's fucking thing, eh? How can that be?"
