Hello there!
I’m Lucid nightmare or lucid, if you want to call me that. I play the snare drum and you can find a lot of content here! Mostly snare drumming videos, but sometimes low budget skits about drumming!

No flam whatsoever...
Hello there!
When I introduced the not-a-flam, I spammed a lot of text calling it, "Double stop" or "Double tap". That's because I don't know what's it actually called. My bad...
Anyways, this video shows a lick that supposedly has no flams, alongside flam rudiments like flam taps, flam accent, Swiss army triplets, and etc.

How to muffle sounds on a snare drum
Переглядів 15216 годин тому
Hello there! Sorry for not uploading for a while. Yesterday and the day before yesterday, I was working with my dad's constructional work. Here's how to muffle, silence, dampen, or mute sounds on a snare drum (How to muffle a snare drum sound)! This is satirical by the way. Majority of the video, or me putting stuff on my drum pad, is completely satire since who would put pillows, blankets, eve...
Playing with no snare drum pads...

Hello there! So, I lost my drum pad. I'm not really sure where I put it, maybe I set it up in a different spot for a freestyle drum lick video. So, in this video, I'll try to find my drum pad by playing with no pad first. By playing with no pad, I meant playing on the floor, wall, anything types of surfaces that isn't considered a drum pad (Edit: I found them...)

Playing a lick with just rimshots...
Переглядів 26421 день тому
Hello there! I realized that there were ways to thud loud bang noises with your drumsticks. There were countless ways for it. For example, Stick Shots, Cross Sticks, and in this case, Rimshots! In this video, I played a lick with only rimshots. Specifically, freestyle lick. However technically, it's not a rimshot because I'm playing it with a drum pad. But if it works and it makes loud bang noi...
Nice drumstick twirl!

Hello there! I've been practicing my stick twirls or what's called "Stick tricks". I know that unofficially stick tricks are mainly a type of playing movement used in drumlines, drum solos, DCI, and more; but officially, these are stick spins. Basically, spinning or twirling around your drumsticks. For example, stick twirl is a type of stick spin, very ironic. Main reason why I made this video ...

Hello there! Sorry for not uploading consistently! This week, school was in a very busy state, and they dragged me into their chaos. The main reason why I couldn't upload snare drum videos or in this case, freestyle snare drum licks, is because I had to edit a massive project video for school purposes (Which I'm done yesterday) and I had to perform in a concert band.
Playing with no drumsticks...

Hello there! I've seen countless of people playing the drum (Not snare drum) with their own hands. For example, the Djembe, Bongo, Cajon, Doumbek, tombak, and etc. However, what if I played the snare drum or drum pad with just my hands, no drumsticks. Calling it, "How to not play the snare drum".
Did I improve?
Переглядів 4 тис.Місяць тому
I'm here to ask a question, did I improve? I've seen countless of comments telling me to fix my grip. And believe it or not, I listened and actually felt like I improved. However, I'm not exactly sure because I don't have an instructor to check and criticize my technique, grip, rudiment, licks, etc. So here I am, did I improve?

Hello! If you're wondering where I am, I am somewhere... But seriously though, I was on a vacation, and I thought it would be a good idea to film during that time. I was planning to film either my drum lick or a random video idea I had on the beach, but it was way too crowded and noisy; also, I'm afraid that people would watch me weirdly.
Failing at Traditional Grip Purposely
Переглядів 575Місяць тому
Hello! Well, I don't know what to put here, the title already explains everything. So, I'll just summarize everything from the video. Here's me failing at traditional grip, purposely though. I made a comparison of how rudiments are played with the normal traditional grip and my "failed" grip. For instance, I played the paradiddle, flam tap, double stroke roll, and a short lick. Speaking of flam...

Hello there! This freestyle lick is different from usual. Like I said before, I'll combine all of my freestyle snare drum licks into one compilation! Except I didn't, because of some of the licks do not match the tempo and were utterly terrible because I didn't have an instructor and it was messing around too much. However, some of the licks stood on tempo and weren't that terrible! I even got ...
Flam taps are just triplets combined
Переглядів 4332 місяці тому
Some of you might already know this, but Flam taps are just triplets combined. Think of it this way, triple stroke rolls are played with triple notes, or 3 notes. Distributing Flam taps in each hand, they both play 3 notes. Meaning that Flam tap is a hybrid version of a triple stroke roll, or triplets! If we continue this mess of a hybrid, it'll become a whole another rudiment (Which I don't kn...

We are so close to the tenth freestyle snare drum lick! Once we do, I'll make a compilation of all the freestyle lick videos into one video! And maybe, I'll change how my thumbnail looks. But anyways, I changed the location to the same place as my video "Playing the snare drum with random objects...", because the lighting was actually pretty decent, and it shone on the drum and me very well. If you wanna get technical, those aren’t triplets, they’re just the sticking for threes. “Triplet” refers to the rhythm of 3 notes in the space of 2. Moving flam taps around is a great exercise though
0:20 WASTED
Practice slowly at first, it takes a lot of time but jumping right in won’t help. But this is still pretty decent, keep it up!
doing casey claw on the floor is wild bro
Lesson learned: play on everything in the house until you find your drumpad😅😅😅.
0:26 this part got me crackin up fr 😂
Hell yeah man
I’m looking to get two practice surfaces, one quiet and one normal. Do you have any recommendations on a pad or two to do so?
Well, there's a lot of drum pads that make various sounds. Some of them are sizzle, some of them are weird sounded. For a quiet sounding pad, I would suggest using the one I'm using in the video you commented, the *Vic Firth Stock pad* . It has a soft rubber surface, and since it's soft it dampens the sound a lot, making the sound very creamy! For a normal sounding pad, I'm not really sure because half of my drum pads have one of those loud sizzle sounds. If I had to pick a normal drum pad, I'd pick the *Moboog drum pad* . It has a hard rubber surface, and since it's hard it doesn't dampen the sound. Hope this helps! :D
Dude you deserve more likes than this, keep up the good work 🥰🥰😎😎
Nice hands and grip. Keep working hard, you got it.
Dayum that lick is good man -some tenor drummer
Awesome! Cool seeing your improvement throughout these videos
Yes good job bro.❤
Coal is being burned somewhere to bring you this video.
Have you tried finding the sticks?
Oh yeah, that's a good idea...
I thoroughly expected to be you just playing the pad like normal with the iSticks (i being imaginary).
I was expecting this to be like the Rowan Atkinson Invisible Drums sketch where the sticks were mimed but the sounds of the stick hitting the pad would still be played
The stick-less control is great😆
I watched your first video and compared it to this one. From what I have seen your stick control has improved a lot, great job!! Don’t stop playing!!
Hello! What Stick Trick did you do before you started playing?
I was twirling around my sticks until I get to the correct position.
Keep it up!
good job bro.
Looking great! I recommend doing some excersizes found on youtube, they help with rhythms and even sight reading if you're up for it. A channel i'd recommend is called "Sight Read Drums", they're a good channel if you don't wanna scope the internet for warmups/excersizes haha (Link: www.youtube.com/@SightReadDrums)
Good job bro keep grinding that out you got good tempo but try to focus on stick hight when striking
Definitly mush more solid grip and control. Keep up the good work
Not a fan of the back sides of any of my pads.
The first one was ds
Work on 8 on a hand keeping all fingers on the stick and letting the stick rebound using mostly wrist then a little arm when you get closer to 90 degrees. Make sure the stick is only hitting one solid note and not buzzing weirdly like it’s doing now. Don’t be afraid to send all of your energy through the pad, that’s what it’s for. Traditional grip is a little harder to explain but it’s the same concept. Let the stick rebound using the turning of the wrist like you would turn a doorknob. Once you go as far the wrist can go then add a little arm. Don’t make it all arm though, find the balance. This normally takes a while to be completely comfortable with but you just have to keep working at it.
Your drum rolls sound like the 2nd stroke is weaker than the first (R r L l R r L l). To correct that, I recommend practicing invert accents slowly (r R l L r R l L), this will help you even your strokes 👍
can you break down invert cheese pls ???
good job bro keep practicing
I’m here to witness the beginning of a big time youtuber

Awesome man!! This is kinda like how I started drumming, execpt mine was a broken snare drum and a tin, but keep on drumming and enjoy yourself :)
I would recommend marching stick also. They give a lot more rebound and feel more stable. Keep it up man!
Try using as much wrist as possible. Right now you're using only fingers and surprisingly arm. At slow tempos use wrist to stroke out every note, at medium tempos start to lower stick heights and use more fingers. Finally, at fast tempos stick heights should be around tap height and you should mostly be using finger. Hope this helps.
In my experience, this is the opposite. It's true that you should stroke out diddles at a slow tempo, but use mostly fingers at a slow tempo and it's all arms when you start to increase the speed because most peoples fingers cant go that fast.
@@gusteau-tc9dxuh this is simply not true. I can give a full explanation if you need it.
he should use push pull, much more effective
I'm getting a lot of tips, but I don't know which method I should use.
@@MeTuFy25 maybe for a drumset but i can get way faster singles with finger method
I've seen shorter once before
Try working on your grip on the sticks instead of focusing on the tricks and your diddles. Trust me, the tricks will be much easier when you use proper technique.
Thanks for the tip.
Check your comments buddy
I already did and I told you that I didn't saw the comment until now.
@@lucidnightmaredreamEh I'll still leave it here for the algorithm
READ THE WHOLE THING PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏 Dear lucid nightmare Alright look, bit of a long comment here, but this really needs to be said. Not sure how old you are, but there's a lot of things you need to work on. First of all, not even related to your playing, never record in a place that's backlit like in Freestyle snare drum lick 6 (Most of these comments are from after viewing that video). Instead, I would recommend turning around, or closing the blinds with another, brighter light source in front of you. Now for your playing. The worst thing is your technique. The most important thing is to stay relaxed, you are very obviously tightening up, whether you know it or not. If you are relaxed, your playing will automatically get better. You are also severely crushing notes, especially the diddles and buzzes in Freestyle snare drum lick 6. Now I'll break down each hand. First your right (matched grip). You are very inconsistent to start. I believe this is mostly due to you having no instructor. You change your grip on the stick after every few measures so I'll try and teach you how to properly hold the stick. Start by finding the balance point of the stick. On Vic Firth sticks you put your thumb on the flag so the tip is slightly below the H in Firth. Next, wrap your pointer finger around the back of the stick so your thumb and pointer finger make a T shape. This is your fulcrum point and it's where the stick rotates. Finally, gently wrap the rest of your fingers around the stick. They shouldn't really come off the stick while your playing. However, this is a big issue for you. Your fingers should remain on the stick at all times with very little gaps in between them. You also have a habit of extending your pointer finger sometimes while your playing. This is very bad, for it breaks the T shape of your fulcrum. Never do this. Remember to stay relaxed at all times while doing this. I would talk about your left hand (traditional grip), but that would take way too long, and you can find a good tutorial online. Until you can properly play with matched grip, stop playing traditional, because it is much harder. Now I could go on for hours talking about stick heights and velocity, but I feel what I have covered is the foundation of drumming, and you should not be learning harder music until you get your technique good. One last thing, when your playing buzzes you are so tense you only get a few bounces out of the buzz (crushing it), this is why your buzz rolls sound so bad, and disconnected. If you relax you can get more notes out of the buzz, and your rolls will sound much more connected, and smoother. Same thing goes for diddles, but instead of more notes, you open up the diddle more, raising the height of the second note. Right now it sounds like you are playing an accent and a tap, instead of two equal notes. I really hope you see this, let alone actually read the whole thing, because you will greatly improve if you listen to me. Sorry this was a billion words, but it was really necessary because your not as good as you can be right now. THIS IS ALL MEANT AS CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, AND I'M NOT HATING ON YOU AT ALL. If you don't wish to take my advice then that's on you, but I'm truly trying to help you get better, especially if you want to make your schools drumline, snare line, center snare, dca, dci, wgi or any other position in your drumming career. Also I have subscribed because I'm looking forward to watching you (hopefully) improving. Have a good morning, Austin.
Hello Austin, I'd like to say that this is really useful information as I don't have an instructor yet, but I do have something to say. I obviously know that the lighting is obstructing the video in "Freestyle snare drum lick 6" because I was trying to imitate the location I did in my other video, I thought that the lighting of that location was bright and easy to see. Also, I think my matched grip looks honestly fine, except for not wrapping all my fingers around the stick. However, all the other techniques you mentioned that I did wrong was actually pretty valid and I had to fix a lot of stuff. Thankfully, I did find a tutorial on how to fix my traditional grip (Hopefully I understand everything the video instructed me to do) but I'm still learning how to do my buzz roll and my double stroke rolls, so hopefully I'll improve. I also won't be joining any kind of positions in my drumming career right now, by the way. PS: I did not read this comment before I upload the Zackgroove's lick video. I turned the comments off without realizing and while I was editing the video, I stumbled upon your criticism.
@@lucidnightmaredreamAh I see. First I want to thank you for actually seeing this because most people like you just ignore it. You are correct about matched grip, your only real issue is keeping all your fingers on the stick. I would recommend learning a few basic warmups if you haven't already such a 8s/8-8-16/Legato 8s and triplet rolls/short short long/chicken and a roll. These will really help you improve your technique off camera. Then you can play the flashy stuff on camera like you have been doing.
