This is off topic but you have a guy, a regular, that goes by scaleworksrc. He just put out an amazing video of an rc car. Your probably not into cars, I'm not much either but you should really look at his video. It's really good.
I checked it out and it's obvious he put a ton of work into it. Absolutely fantastic. You will never see video that well-done on this channel. I have standards to maintain (very low standards, but standards nonetheless). I also watched his Cobra M450 video. You absolutely need the 2200mah batteries to get the self-righting feature to work.
For estimation purposes, you'll need 18" of 2x4 foam for every 5 lbs of boat weight.
@@vze23c3q Now THAT is good information.
@@Dr_Jet does different types of foam matter🤔
@@jimstone5339 To a very small degree. Most foams have an advertised density X number of pounds per cubic foot. You would have to calculate displacement knowing that water is roughly 8 pounds per gallon, about 7.48 gallons make a cubic foot then convert pounds to cubic feet, and there's your answer. In the long run, the densities are pretty close, so any differences in the foam is small in the overall impact of the foam.. Vze23's rule of thumb is probably pretty close to the real world for several types of foam. I have gone to using the type of foam that works in the application. My three go-tos are EPP (the combat glider flexible stuff in this boat), EPS (the rigid pink/blue Home Depot stuff, or the very flexible "pool noodle"/packing foam. All that said, I no longer have any faith in that spray-in foam. It's structure is open-cell and it can become saturated if submerged long enough. Ask me how I know (R.I.P. Redbird).
Man I agree, can't have enough floatation. Sadly most people don't realize that until they lose one. Those pics I sent you of the Rev outrigger didn't show the amount of floatation I put in it. I had to take it out to show you the setup. Having lost one outrigger I put it everywhere I could in the second one.
Hey doc are you still willing to cut a few hulls?
I might be convinced to put a few kits together. As I recall, I made a bunch or parts, but I don't recall exactly what I have. I may have motors and ESCs on hand. Let me know what you want, and I'll check my inventory.
Sweet! Gotta love that fresh paint feeling. Almost like that new car smell.
Lookin good, can't wait for finished product.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy, a painting he shall go😅 the problem with no feedback is that they'll keep pestering you to leave it. I've tried.
How does that old saying go? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. 🤐 But if you pester me for my opinion, I'll give it to you! 😎
Love that Cobra boat I got mine on Bangog 2 for $1:33.. they're still for sale on AliExpress for $200 and some.. when you said they stopped making them I just ordered the complete hull for 30 bucks before it's gone it's ben on my wish list in case I break it.. they have the hardware kit too for $80 too much for me right now I've been looking for that wire drive for that haven't been able to find one.... I was saving my money for oxyden mini Dom for 400 bucks then I found the Cobra I think it's way better boat for the money and the hardware's way better..
I just did find the wire drive shaft at the reachon model store AliExpress.. they're the ones that selling the hull...
Good to see you are still around! Also, this is the first video of yours I have seen. This looks cool!
Glad I got mine ,I need to work out where to get e new prp shaft though, mine sheared at the very front end where the recess is cut out for the first allen grub screw.
@@grrfy I’m pretty sure a Mini Dom (or Tenshock Scord) prop shaft will work.
Well, maybe the value will go up now that they stopped hatching baby sneks 🐍
That reminds me of the story of the Squier 51 guitar. They came out in late 2004 and they were very low priced. They received little attention because they were such a "budget" guitar. A few years later, they went out of production and at about the same time musicians realized these were really great guitars; modders learned that made great modification platforms. Originally selling as low as $69.95 at Guitar Center, you are now hard-pressed to find a stock one for less than $300. Fender made re-issues, but the OG will always be the OG.
The squire bass is actually quite popular and many bassist play them on stage. mainly so they don't mess up their good one. They don't record with them. ...
(scaleworksrc)Did you know that when a person looks up the m450 cobra your videos are all over the place.
@Dr_Jet Now that's a cool bit of history.. & just goes to show the old business saying of "supply and demand." 💯 Thanks, Doc!
@@jimstone5339 That's awesome! I tried to give this little boat the attention it deserves & it's honestly a fun little ripper 🫡
Do you think it's also because they didn't charge enough, if they paid retail prices for the parts there wouldn't be much left on the bone. Of course they didn't pay retail but maybe still not enough. And yes I have been working hard trying to get the boat right. I just recently painted the sponsons so now it'll run right 😅. Even though you said that your giving me the trophy boat I'm not going to give up on the boat and you'll be getting a video very soon. And a much appreciated thank you.
It just popped in my head, do you want money for shipping? Just let me know.
@@jimstone5339 Nah, It's all good.. 👍
@@Dr_Jet thanks
That's a highly tunable L bracket 👍 interesting to see the process! 👀✌️
It meets my primary goal for this build: It's RUGGED!
Very professional. You could make and sell them for this and other boats.
Let's see: Long wait time for the material, a lot of material waste, every hull will have a different angle of dangle, a couple hours on the milling machine, hand-threading and filing, a ride in the bead blaster. Yeah, I could do it for a couple hundred dollars per unit..... 🙄
Looks a bit tricky but it's coming along. Appreciate the updates👍
Having grown up in Lancaster which is still l.a.county I used to hear Rick dees. I still use the term dees grees and everyone looks at me stupid 😅. So it cracked me up hearing you say that.
Glad to hear it dr. Bro
With the state of the current USPS, we might have to go back to the pony express 😂 ..appreciate the updates 🫡
Oh there you are, I was getting worried. Hopefully I got my angle of dangle right because I'm off to try the Rev outrigger... again!!! Wish me luck
🤞
God has a way of humbling the proud 💯👍
I grew up with a royce union bicycle that looked like rocky balboas bike and was a brick.... thanks for the bike dad, you cheap ass. Anyway from your intro I'm assuming you didn't pass the inspection 😮😮
Oh no, I passed inspection 100%. The real problem was why I had to do them in the first place. There's a process to waive testing if there has been testing nearby that would be similar. The evil "say no at any cost" inspector said no to our waiver letter (even though she violated policy), I had to charge the owner thousands to do testing that came up with the exact same numerical results as the waiver letter. Same results, but the owner is $3000 lighter with drilling and testing and several weeks later on the calendar. That's why housing is unaffordable in this state. Fully 1/3 the cost of a new home is government fees and compliance regulations.
@@Dr_Jet oh now I understand. Well I guess that's why they drive new vehicles and the rest drive 25 year old vehicles. One of the things I hated the most living in California was that every year I had to get a smog test and it would cost $300 or more. Every year. That was a rip off too.
Lol
@@jimstone5339 Yep, I'm still driving my 2001 Durango. Just hit 200,000 a few weeks ago. There's a net outflow of population from California, even with all the illegal border crossings coming in. High taxes and regulations is a major motivator in that outflow.
I definitely wasn't racing my bicycle. cool story, though. I was out with the kids on a leisure bike ride. I was riding a beach cruiser with forward & aft fenders, my big foot hit the front fender basically acted like a brake sending me flying. Landed on my shoulder hard! Hit my head almost knocked me out 😆
Ouch!

Thanks a Doc.
Stud and nut is a good idea for that turn fin 👍
@@scaleworksRC good name for a boat 🤪
@@jimstone5339 Studnut? 🤔
Well I'm glad you got to see me today, don't work to hard next week
DR jet gets naked...man I was afraid to watch this one 😅
Lookin good Doc, say what kind of juam foam do you use? Thanks in advance.
In this boat, I'm using expanded polypropylene (EPP). The same stuff they use to build slope combat gliders.
Appreciate the update on the build
I didn't know you used a dangleometer. That's got to be one of the cleanest fiberglass jobs I've seen. That's something I need to work on. I'd like to see how big b makes his carbon fiber plates too.
He lays carbon cloth on a sheet of clean, waxed glass.
The only thing I've been wondering about is why on this boat you have your motor at a steeper angle than the last build. Nothing is wrong with it I'm just curious
It's mostly just the way the hardware works out. I try to get the end of the coupler really close to the deck to keep the motor weight as low as I can. I'm also thinking about the length of the stuffing tube from where it exits the hull to the nose of the strut. I knew my motor was going to mount a bit more aft than usual (I'm running really big batteries up front) and since the tube has to be straight where it enters the strut, it needs to be straight slightly before as well. All this added up to a steeper angle helping the drive geometry. I'll show you tomorrow.
@Dr_Jet definitely sounds like your the man with the plan🤔👌
@@jimstone5339 Scratch-built FE boats are a thinking man's game. I think that's why I'm drawn to it. Every new hull is a new challenge.
Lookin' good 👍
Are you talking about a 200-240 amp esc? That would be the biggest esc I've seen you with. And being known for small boats they may not sell you one😅. I just bought the ztw 200.g2 and I really like it, I wasn't sure if I would after hearing others reviews.
I could put on a Big B disguise and then they might sell me an ESC of that size; the problem is, they'd probably say it was too small for Big B..... 🙄 I've used the smaller ZTW g2s before with good results, I'll check it out.
@Dr_Jet I will say that it's a bit big. But I like it
From my search on the Internet the recoil2 uses a 26mm prop and proboat sells them. Also a guy on eBay is selling them winasum is the name
I have to get me one of those stickers... I'm back!!!😅 My son is a camera and video afficinato and he has one that is really cool. It videos in 360. You don't miss a thing with it. It is screwed on a pole that you stick into the ground and push record. I can get the name of it if you want.

As a coffee aficionado, I would implore you to try a cup of Pilon espresso. They sell single serve machines you can adjust to your liking and make all the fancy coffee house drinks with. I like the one where you drop a glob of vanilla ice cream as a treat😄(Affogato?) If you do the 'Americano' ..it's basically half the carafe filled with coffee and a full cup of water. It's the best cup I've had yet. Looking forward to seeing that Ferrari run!

That was Brandon..... You guys all look the same; I can't tell you apart
@@Dr_Jet now that's funny 🤣
I dont remember if it was this video, but in one of your recent videos you talked about spray paint. Have you seen the rustoleum spray paints lately. They have a dial on the nozzle that you can dial in your spray pattern.
Many paints have a turnable nozzle to go from a vertical to horizontal spray pattern. Is this just a refinement of that principle?
@Dr_Jet vertical, horizontal, heavy, light, spot or fog. There is like 7 settings.
@@brandoncocola1322 🤔
Ok pump daddy, there was a purple pimped out caddy(i think it was a caddy)at the very beginning of this video. It was only on there for a split second. I'm assuming it's your new ride😅
That was actually a Volvo limo with a gold snowplow grill and all the "usual" pimpmobile accoutrements. It's the "Photo Cover" for my video, not really a part of it. I picked that photo because I thought it a particularly bad example of the genre.
@Dr_Jet well you got that right 😆

@Dr_Jet your definitely strutting your stuff with that one.
If a company has a good product you don't mind giving them exposure but it's the guys that have poor fitting canopies or bad hulls that you want to make flower pots out of. Happy thanksgiving
This is a good hull. Not necessarily a GREAT hull, but plenty good enough for it's intended purpose. I know the other hulls to which you refer. I don't have much nice to say about them so I say very little at all.

This guy related to Uncle Tonys Garage? As I continue to watch. This is like watching a fever dream where AvE and uncle tony traded bodies.
