Переглядів 1469 років тому
This video shows the removal of a retaining wall, concrete block and 10cm poured RC. To expose the original timber frame which was being destroyed by water, which was from interstitial condensation caused by idiotic design by an architect who thought that the laws of nature didn't apply to him. It shows a piece of OSB being squeezed and water running out of it.

    2 ugly buildings i would have something smaller built and out of bricks and morter That big out building looks like a school gymnasium ugly as hell and why do they need a big property when its the 2 of them. They could have saved money on a smaller building and something that looks nice

    Architects seem to be a law unto themselves! We got caught too by an Architect's "folly" - turning our simple design into a "castellated" behemoth that, while it was nice, virtually doubled the cost of the build!

    Why did this happen?

    • @aviator98
      @aviator98 2 роки тому

      The architect didn't understand the laws of physics, interstitial condensation within the wall created the conditions for the wall to become wet, the design of the wall didn't allow for any drying to occur, result = rot. Entirely design related, entirely preventable by good design practice.

    Dreadful, probably looked good on paper, the skills required to build a house fitting in with Bath -Georgian properties , just aint there now and too expensive, this looks cheap, almost like a pair of shipping containers.

    how does ANYONE think a single layer roof like the "conservatory roof " is NOT going to drip ? ... warm moist air WILL CONDENSATE against ...ANY COLD SURFACE .... kitchens produce alot of this, humans breath out 4 litres+ a day .... I have always disliked open plan living spaces where kitchen moisture can go where ever it likes ...bathrooms have doors and exhaust fans for a reason .... this couple needs to buy several dehumidifiers .... to dry this place out

    Wow hideous buildings. I wonder how their neighbours reacted to the big builds. Also why didn't they look into the problem immediately and pursue it with an outside professional assessment of the water issue ?! Would have caught it before it sustained serious damage.

    Here is a dilema, in this case who you sue? the engineer, or the architect, or the builder? or everybody?

    • @aviator98
      @aviator98 4 роки тому

      The answer to that is straightforward: The designer (architect) produces information (drawings) The manufacturer (builder) makes whatever the drawings specify. If something doesn't work, compare the product to the drawings, if the product is not to drawing the manufacturer is at fault, if the product is as drawn then its a design fault.

    I don't understand how an engineer and arcquitech made this thing that does not look like home and besides so defective that you can not live there with all the mold. What they were thinking using wood on the bottom of the home in swamp area, but even so, homes should be made only with bricks or rocks. I hate homes made of wood. It's a hell in summertime or huge airconditioner bills. Gosh, I am just a humble high school graduate, I don't understand anything about home. but this construction is not home, it's a disaster. If I was his friend I would tell him: "are you sure you want this design?"

    As an Engineer the homeowner should have immediately recognized the homes ventilation problem and instituted a cure...it would have saved him many thousands of pounds. By the way was the hideous connected factory building masquerading as a home extension finally demolished? I'm surprised the City of Bath saw fit to approve such a monstrosity, since the entire finished build was little more than a catastrophic eyesore. The carpentry and finished millwork looked like it was readied with a hand axe.

    Wow, sill plate is what that's called. Two, wow. Where was the building inspector? IDK about England but in MI they check for things like flashing, vapor barriers, and so on. It's part of the permitting process. Get a permit, do an inspection then move in. Maybe multiple inspections. Anyone with common sense would have figured that out day one.

Now I have a 2 bedroom home a small kitchen, bathroom and downstairs wc. I am thinking in a few years I might actually move into a one bedroom flat, that'd do for me!

    The Man owner seems so intelligent when he lectures us about whats Wrong. So was he asleep during the building? Didn't he walk around inspecting it while it was being built? He annoys me. All he does is talk, but he only listens to himself. A NO IT ALL, who really is dumb.

    • @aviator98
      @aviator98 5 років тому

      Its nice to know I've annoyed you, the feeling is mutual. And no I didn't walk round it while it was being built, most of the time I wasn't in the same country, and you may not realise it but by law you have to ask the builder for permission to walk round a building site, even if you own the land.

    They dropped a bollock with this - totally inappropriate build.Nice people who seem very intelligent which is why it surprises me they got in this pickle. However, they got the land for a bargain in 93 so don’t feel to sorry for them ,they could have scrapped these two monstrosities and sell the land -which they would make a bomb on ....and what they should have done a few years ago. The ‘architect’needs to be named and shamed- wonder how many other people (not as laid back and able as these two) who’s lives this tit - with a big ego and no talent- has fucked up!

  • @leesawford
    @leesawford 5 років тому

    A case of an architects ego running away with him ,and it’s completely inappropriate for the environment. It looks like a prefab next to a large 70’s council house. The couple seem lovely and surprisingly laid back considering. I hope they finally get what they want-seen there’s a part two so.....
