I'm no expert on singapore, but from what I've heard pinlic services in singapore are connected to voting for PAP (I think it was a polymatter video where I heard that? It's been years, so I could be wildly misremembering). If songaporians want true democracy, a good first step would be to de-politicize those institutions, so they can't be used as a both carrot and stick. I'm looking forward to this channel growing! I've also enjoyed your channel that focuses on under-reported stories of african history. Thanks for all your hard work!

But it was vitally important that someone assumed control immediately to try to demonstrate a level of functional governance and provision of basic service that any population needs. I pray that whatever electoral system is implemented the parties can concentrate more on the commonality rather differences; that workable compromises can be found to keep the country from falling deeper into an abyss of violence. In the years from independence in 1946 to Assad’s 1971 coup, Syria had 40 Prime Ministers and 20 Presidents (including very short term “acting” ones). It would be massively hard for a stable new government to emerge and manage the country well and equitably with just the internal issues. It will be miraculous for this to happen when there are so many external actors who do not have the well being of a new Syrian state in their hearts.
