What to see in Chicago if you have a long layover. Great public transit in this city!
Chicago has some of the best public transit of any city in the United States. It is so easy and affordable to get from O'Hare International to downtown (and other places) via the train. If you have a long layover (or if you're staying a few days), I filmed a few places that I really enjoyed!

This was super helpful! we are planning a Christmas market trip in a couple of weeks. Direct flight from Denver to Frankfurt, which we are using as our home base. We are taking trains to different cities each day rather than worrying about a car or having to pack up and move each day. It's our first time in Germany and 1st tim to do carry-on luggage only. Traveling to Heidelberg, Rothenburg ob Der Tauber, Nuremberg and Cologne. We have a couple of things planned during the day at each location and the markets in the afternoon and evening. What do you think? Does this sound reasonable? Thx for a great video!

    • @scottoftheroad
      @scottoftheroad 13 днів тому

Yes, sounds reasonable and really fun. It’s always nice to use trains rather than a rental car. We had good luck when we did use trains, although plan for possible delays, as that did happen to us. www.bahn.de will have schedules and you can purchase tickets online or download the app, which worked great. Frankfurt will be a good home base as there is quite a bit to do in that city and it has a really good tram system. Have fun, and thanks for watching!

I plan on renting a car (unfortunately) in August 2025 for Star Trek Convention. There should be better public transportation and better sidewalks between rio and the strip. Here in Miami we have a metro mover that takes you all over downtown plus A metro train and it still is not sufficient

I used the South Beach/Miami Beach trolley when I was down there a couple years ago. It got really crowded at times, but it was easy to use and nice to see how popular it was. You're very welcome! Thanks for watching. The Deuce and the Monorail save me so much time when exploring Las Vegas. Plus, I think the Monorail has great views of the Strip during the day and at night. It's worth using it just to see all the lights. The bus from the airport is a great way to go, but it's sometimes hard convincing an entire party of people to go that route when ride share is set up so efficiently at the terminals. We make up for it and only go public transit when we head Downtown or the Arts District.

Hello. Yes, I have a sunroof. We put bulky lightweight items in the cargo bag, and haven't had a problem. I talked to the Volvo dealership about this when I bought the roof bars from them. Check with your car manufacturer as well. I'm guessing they'll have specifications on what's best for your car. Another option is to get a basket to put on the bars and then add your cargo. I went with this bag as it is easy to use and I can collapse and store it when I'm not traveling. I haven't opened the sunroof when the bag is on though. Not sure how that would look and feel, but since you can't really see out of it, I never found the need to try it.

Hi, @Letstravelwithimran. I've never measured the distance between the bars or where exactly the bag will sit. I make sure that the straps from the bag are tight and it feels correct. The bars we bought from Volvo can be adjusted, and my guess is they can on a Discovery as well. I also make sure to pack it a bit light, so heavy items go in the vehicle and lighter ones go in the bag. Just my preference, but I think it makes sense. Thanks for watching!

Oh my - it would have been 6.80 just to buy the ticket to the airport including the tram. The transportation system is integrated all sharing the same tickets - so if you see this - don't do what they did. Also - the comment about just buying tram tickets every time makes no sense. Once you buy the second ticket - you already have paid for a full 24h - so unless you truly certainly only will need one (i.e. direct to airport and out . . . ) then it is best to get 24h ticket from when you need it and you can time it that you do not need one per day based on the way the 24h overlaps.

I posted this comment on another one of your videos. Do you know much about the yellow-headed caracara? I know that they are generally in South America, in Panama. That’s a very long way from California! Well….we have one in Southern California! We don’t know how it got here but It lives in our neighborhood, spends a lot of time in our large tree, for a few months now. It’s very friendly and it hangs out with our neighborhood crows. They are literally together like family all day. It is no threat at all to anyone or anything. It even shares it’s food with them. Neighbors feed it food like fresh chicken, bread, fruits. I wondered if it gets lonely because it’s the only one of its kind but like I said, the crows are like it’s family. We’ve come to Love this beautiful bird. It brings so much joy to so many. How in the heck do you think it got here? I pray that it remains alright and content as it seems. Your opinion is very much appreciated. Thank you.🙏😊

Hi, Shelly. Wow, I have no idea how it could have gotten there. Pretty exciting, though. I used to live in Los Angeles, and I remember flocks of parrots, but those were basically pets that were either released or escaped. As far as a yellow-headed caracara, that's a new one to me. I did an online search and found this from the ABA. They might be talking about your bird! It could be that it somehow made it to California via a ship. www.aba.org/rare-bird-alert-may-17-2024/ Thanks for watching and commenting on my video. The BBC has done several programs in the past, and whenever I find one on UA-cam, I always watch it. Dr. Janina Ramirez and/or Alastair Sooke would be two great art historians for this as I've seen them both discuss art in various churches in the past. Perhaps they'll get Bern on their list. Thanks for your comment!

How the heck did you miss Laderach on Bahnhofstrasse and not go to Lindt Home of Choc only a few minutes from central Zurich by bus?

Hi, Tim. Thanks for watching, and thanks for mentioning Laderach. I'll get there the next time I'm in Zurich. Honestly, there was so much to see in a few days, I took advice from friends and a couple of people I met in Switzerland on what chocolate shops to visit. As far as Lindt, I did manage to visit their Chocolate Museum a few months later when I was in Cologne. Here's my video on it if you haven't seen it. Hi, Richard. Thanks for watching. It's surprisingly big, and really easy to tie down. We put in small lawn chairs, coolers, beach blankets etc. You could get a couple small suitcases inside. We always make sure that whatever goes in is bulky, but light. I don't want to add too much weight onto the top of the vehicle. It definitely helps as our SUV was just running out of space on the inside.

I have a love/hate relationship with DTW. Concourse A is a mile long, indeed, and the PeopleMover never seems to be effective for me--my gate is somehow always in the middle of the stations, meaning I end up walking more than the tram saved me. However, yes, it is a clean airport, and Delta does offer several lounges throughout their concourses.

I went there in the seventh grade on a field trip. It was typical weather for Idaho at the time, gray drizzling, depressing day. Going to the “Old Pen” made it worse. Haven’t been there since. Ghost Adventures filmed several years ago and they captured some interesting footage. I like the BSU-themed cell.

Yes, I know Idaho when it's overcast and drizzling (or snowing). Luckily, this day it was hot and sunny. I was impressed how nicely landscaped the prison yard was ... probably helps to have the Idaho Botanical Garden right next to it, which is another great place to visit when flowers are in bloom. Thanks for watching!

They are a TV crew paid by the network who was paid by The City of Boise to film an episode there. Ghost Hunters is Hollywood. Not reality. I went there myself & felt absolutely nothing at the age of 18 & I very much believed in the paranormal at that time with my own experience when I was 11. There are no ghosts there. Id know. I'm very sensitive to them. I could spend the night alone in that place in lock down with no issues whatsoever. I guarantee you there is nothing there.

I appreciate the comment, Kamran. I should have changed from 60Hz to 50Hz when recording. I didn't realize how low the lighting was … it felt bright enough in the museum that afternoon. This was filmed at 30 FPS, but in Germany, lights "flicker" at 50 Hz. I still wanted to post the video since the museum is definitely worth visiting when you're in Trier. Amazing, his house looks so ordinary and plain it is hard to believe such a towering musical genius lived there. I once read that if you want to know Beethoven don't visit where he lived, where he wrote his music, don't look at his manuscripts but listen to his music, that's the real Bethoven!

    • @scottoftheroad

Well said. You just can't tire of his symphonies. I remember a music class I took and the professor talked about Beethoven with similar thoughts as yours. He also had quite a bit of respect for Gustav Mahler in the same manner as he did Beethoven. I didn't really know Mahler then, but that lecture made me start listening to him as well.
