DIY Wire Mesh Molle Panel
I wanted additional storage space in my 2004 Honda CRV. There is unused space on the rear left window, so I added a DIY mesh molle panel to gain extra storage for my knick-knacks.

    Is it more jumpy in the back? Also how is the alignment? Can you use this sumo thing without the lift kit? And why did you have to lift at the front, given it's tall and steady there?

    • @WeekendSoftRoading
      @WeekendSoftRoading 5 місяців тому

      It's less jumpy since it's restricting the springs more. You do not need an alignment when you put in the sumo springs unless you are replacing the rear shocks. You can use the sumo springs without a lift. The lift kits come with both rear and front spacers due to how the suspension geometry works.

    • @quintinn100
      @quintinn100 5 місяців тому

      @@WeekendSoftRoading I see. So you don't need alignment after lifting? Some people lift only the rear, as the car is sagging only there. I have the same problem. I changed almost all the suspension at the back with new springs Lesjofors and coils TRW (should have been Bilstein). Still if you put anything in the car at the back it crumbles too much. They said that putting stronger springs or putting spacers would solve it but I wanted to keep it stock. But now if three people sit at the back and I have a full trunk it's really bad. And asked about the jumpy ride, because back in the day I had gass shocks (on another car) that were very tight and the car was jumpy and bumpy. Very bad. But I guess you're right, stiff springs wouldn't make it jumpy, but is it less comfortable? How does it feel when you go through bumps at slow and high speeds? The geometry of the car is changing when you lift it, isn't it?

    • @WeekendSoftRoading
      @WeekendSoftRoading 5 місяців тому

      @@quintinn100 The shocks and springs for the CRV are inherently soft for a softer ride hence the name CRV = Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. You can either add sumosprings or something similar to the rear to reduce the sag when loaded or replace the springs/struts with something stiffer from companies like Areogenics, Flatout suspension and Bilstein. I went with the easier/ budget route of adding sumosprings as it was an easier install and it works. When you do lift your car you will need an alignment, however if you are just adding sumosprings you do not need an alignment. Overall I would say the ride is more comfortable when loaded with gear. Before without the sumosprings my struts and shocks in the rear would hit the bump stops causing a rougher ride but not they do not hit the bump stops.

    • @quintinn100
      @quintinn100 5 місяців тому

      @@WeekendSoftRoading I know the suspension is made softer, due to European desire for more comfort. My problem is that the front is very high and is not sagging whatsoever. Two men sitting there 120kgs each - no problem. Keep in mind the engine is also at the front. There is a lot of space between the tyres and the fender. It's just not budging. But in the rear it's a different story. There is a problem and it's the same as on Honda Element. It can be comfortable without having to sag. With three people and full trunk the car squats and the fenders pretty much touch the tyres. At least mine does and others that I've seen. And also when people sit at the back the rear end sits visibly lower than the front, which messes a bit the handling of the car... Anyway, thanks for sharing knowledge. I already spent money on shocks and springs.. I guess I'll wait for them to wear out a bit and will see what I can do then. Maybe sumo maybe tougher springs I don't know. I also have LPG tank at the back so my car has some overweight. And a few things that I always carry around in the trunk. Perhaps this would help if I put aftermarket stiffer springs.

      Update on using aftermarket axles after changing my OEM axles for aftermarket axles: I got bad vibrations and also had to replace the driver-side cv axles 5 times as the boots kept ripping on me (thank you lifetime warranty). Sadly I did not keep my OEM axles so I had to go to the junkyard to get low-mile ones. If you do plan to lift your CRV even by 1 inch in the front KEEP YOUR OEM AXLES or find high-quality aftermarket axles. Copied from my other video: ua-cam.com/video/5E6n3HubGGI/v-deo.html
