Absolutely bullshit merchants these after dinner speaker's, and anyone who listens to this bullshit, are having the piss taken out of themselves. Once heard Alan Kennedy tell a story about how Tommy Smith flattened Duncan McKenzie on the half way line, all the audience was in stitches. Yet Alan Kennedy joined Liverpool 3 years after McKenzie left Everton and Smith retired, all 3 could never have played in the same game

A lot of folk on here seem to be confused by the various governing bodies of the English game, who runs what competitions etc, ie they don't seem to know the difference between the Premier League, the Football League, the Football Association etc. Stoke played Man Utd in the Coca-Cola League Cup that year, a competition run by the Football League, the organisation Kev Lynch refereed on behalf of.
No idea why you would tell this story and give so many details. This just did not happen.

Man U beat Stoke 2-0 at old trafford in the league cup 1993. However, neville wasnt playing (too early for him to be a first team regular) and Keith Cooper referee the match, not Kevin Lynch. Hes completely made this story up.
