Jeep YJ seat upgrade
Переглядів 37 тис.9 років тому
I upgraded the seats in my 1990 Jeep YJ to 2008 Mercury Mountaineer Seats. The fronts require quite a bit of trial and error and custom fab to get them right, but the rear's bolt in with little additional work. I did not have to drill or cut any additional holes in my Jeep to fit these seats. Seats are very comfortable on long drives, also have heat, recline and adjustable lumbar.
Hey hey Stephen thanks for this. Its very helpful.
Good video. QUESTION for you. I have an obd2 96 model 4.0 that I took everything wiring, sensors, fuse box, everything. Is it possible to hook everything up to where it went from factory and have it run? It’s going in an old jeep that would have no communication with the dash or any other gadgets, it needs to simply run the efi. I have the Cps and o2s already taken care of.
FSM? Field service manual? I need one for xjs thx
Thank you tons.. My 96 xj had a fire in the dash and half the harness or more is gone. I grabbed a 99 xj to swap in but this is awesome bc it's about the only video that explains this process with a really good example
U did a high pressure inline fuelpump??
What about the fuel pump and the fuel lines is it inside the tank or did you swap the tank as well?
They sure look comfortable for all the bumpy roads
Motor mounts line up ?
Are you still answering questions on the engine swap
Do you have any upclose pictures of the frames bolted down with the angle iron? We just picked up the back seats and would love more up close pictures. Thanks.
Did you make more video on that and thank you
This. Is. BADASS!!!!!!
This is the best video I could find! I’m planning on swapping a 4.0 into my 78 j10
Im doing the similar ford explorer rear seat and ill tell you now its certainly no 15 min job. only 1 hole on each side lines up and you have to slightly space the rear upwards because the seat latches protrude through the bracket and will hit the floor if you dont space them about 1/2in.
So question for you, is the seat out of the Mountaineer the 3rd row seats or the 2nd row outer seats? I finally have some in a local junkyard and want to pick them up
This was my go to info to swap an 01 4.0 into my sons 87 yj. Would have never tried without your video. THANK YOU for your effort and expertise.
Were the rear seats a split bench seat or individual bucket seats?
*this is very cool!*
Thank you
Stephen, I realize that this project didn’t make to the finish line, but these videos still remain the best source of information on swapping an OBD2 4.0 into a 4.2 YJ. Would you be willing to share more information on the subject? Preliminary wiring diagrams? Were you planning on integrating any of the gauges? Were you going to utilize the OBD2 port and it’s diagnostic functions? Thanks, Hinmaton
I'm dreading the wiring!
How hard is it to do it ? First timer Bought an 88 yj with a 99 xj wiring harness is a mess all throughout dash, no gauges work, many dead cables I’m sure. No windshield etc etc help .. what harness would I buy ? Xj?
How tall are you . I’m 6”4 i need a little bit more of leg room.
Awesome!
Hi, Thanks for the information. I have swapped CJ7 with XJ and I want to simplify the fuse panel and wiring. Do you have any idea. How to elimine PDC and use new custom relay panel? Thanks
Thank you!
Thanks for the info! I have a question? I bought just the engine from 96 Cherokee 4.0l for my YJ what all do I need to get/do To get it running?
For the rear do you need any YJ rear bracket to mount them or just use the seats built in bracket... I have a YJ without rear brackets or seats
You should make and sell the brackets to do this!
Dude! Thanks for this video. Question I just bought a 79 Jeep CJ7 with a 99 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 fuel injection. Will the wires be the same color as in your video?
Hi there, wires may be the same, I’d be very surprised if the were different. That said, my motor was out of an ‘00 which used coil pack ignition, yours is cap and rotor. Technically the harness will be different, but the colors may very well be the same.
am having the same issue dud you get it starting
I have a 1990 wrangler putting a 98 4.0 but I'm stuck what about crank sensor in the bell of transmission
Very nice. Do your front seats fold forward to allow for access entry to the backseats?
Yep, kept the factory brackets
I have a couple questions if you don't mind. 1 what year is your YJ? 2. If I understand the swap right the XJ harness heavy guage red wire is receiving 12v positive from the power distribution block and is feeding power into the YJ harness through the three red wires. which is then feeding power to the ignition switch and then to the starter/fuel pump correct?
Can u do a video on the speakers in the floor?
Thanks for the content. I am questioning my harness since it has no yellow red stripe. Is there a way to tell what year harness I have? Thanks!
Hey I got an 88 YJ that I am doing the same to but my harness is a little bit older and I think maybe I have found the blue with the white Tracer wire but I can't find the yellow with red Tracer wire do you have any input on that harness the fuse box is just a little bit different
92 jeep yj 2.5 I'm not getting power to the coil. I have replaced many parts. Engine turns over but no fire to the coil. Any wiring suggestions to help me fix this wiring problem?? HELP ME STEPHEN PLEASE
Steve..good info...did this...only question I have is what small wire attaches to the starter solenoid from the ignition switch?
Did you use the original seat belts and what size bolts did you use to bolt seats down
It works!
What row back seat is that it doesn't look the 3rd row or the 2nd row
Did that. Thanks...did you ever make the c100 video?
I’d rather the original seats those looked squeezed in there
in the rear I agree, the front was really nice tho
@@handle2935 I guess
doing the same swap with a 96 xj and am curious what different about the 98 and newer
I got an 84 CJ7 that I’m trying to get running. This is the exact video I needed to join the CJ with the 2003 4.0 L. Can I message you with any questions? I understand this is a little late.
Sorry for late response on my part. I’m sure you’re on the road by now, but send any questions you may have. Good to know that this works on a 2003 harness.
Hi .Stephen gillett I have also yj 1989 and it have a orignal engine I'm going to swap wrangler 2006 on it but confuse to start up ....how can I arrange wiring in yj deshboard ?? Is any detail video to help me out thanks I'm from Pakistan 00923452359608
I was wondering if the same re wiring would work for a 99 Cherokee 4.0 donor into a 95 wrangler that had a 2.5 if yes perfects also how did you power all your light heater ext..? and my old 2.5 had a fuel and return line on the fuel rail the new 4.0 just has a fuel line on the fuel rail what could you do in this situation change the fuel pump or just cap off return line?
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! Thanks for the help!
Question...I have a 1990 wrangler yj that has a 1989 Cherokee 4.0 engine now in it with fuel injection....is there a crossover harness ready made to add to complete all connections?
Nice old jeep
Nice video good job 👍
