I was there. As we headed upstairs, people kept telling us to turn around, because the hall with KVHW was packed. We got to the hall with no problem and stayed there for most off their show. There was just SO MUCH MUSIC at the Kaiser that night that it was hard to take it all in. I remember s short set with Warren Haynes, Matt Abts and Mike Gordon, but I can't find any info about it.

Wow, epic. I had seen Kimock a number of times with Zero, but this was my first time seeing KVHW. And it was such a synchronistic day for me. I had literally moved to Humboldt County that day, and was staying out on the Jetty at one of my friend's houses until I could find a place. He totally kept it secret that Kimock was playing like 5 minutes from his house. I pulled in early in the morning after driving all the way from Chicago for 3 days. Straight to his couch and a bong rip of DMT. Welcome to your new home buddy. Got some rest. Met some of the crew he had been hanging with since he moved there a few months earlier, and we went to the square to check out the scene. People were just showing up from Eugene since the band had just played McKenzie which we heard was a barn burner. Tixs were to be had, and that night was my first night as a new resident of Arcata, and my first of many Cafe Tomo concerts. Super sick show with Terry Hagerty. Think Ray was still mending his busted hand. Someone who ended up being one of my good friends actually ran sound at Tomos, but wouldn't meet him for another 4 years or so. I ended up getting all of the SBD recordings of all the bands from the time it was open till it closed. Great times back then trading DATs still. I just remember that everyone was so welcoming to me at that show, and it is something that few people get to experience. What an introduction to what would be a rollercoaster of life from that night on in The County. Ended up moving to SF in 2006 because my girl scored a biolab job, but I kept gardening away. Thanks for the upload. I can't say I have seen this yet. Sweet!

He said what we all felt at the time. I saw Santana with Jeff Beck opening a few days after Jer's passing-Santana spoke over the gospelly into to "Make Somebody Happy" and got the stage lights and house lights turned on and everyone to stand up and "Salute the Spirit of Jerry Garcia" I hadn't really let my feelings out about it until that moment and I wept and cried out loud at this concert with so many others. Almost 30 years ago, and it feels like it was last week! DO glad there are musicians of this caliber to keep on keeping on like Steve said. Amen, brother. BTW, this version of AFRO BLUE is the sh*T!

Wow such a synchronicity with them happening to be doing a couple of shows the week of Jerry's passing. They played 4 days before at GAMH in San Francisco, and then this show. Talk about two completely different head spaces for everyone with one person of the family having passed on. They were passed the torch, just not in the way they had liked.
