Korg Poly-800 Synth + Strymon BigSky Reverb

Demonstrating some of my favorite patches on my 1983 Korg Poly-800 analog synthesizer. Simple four-note chords can sound tremendous with very little or no effects on this synth. For some added ambience, I am running the synth in stereo to a Strymon BigSky reverb pedal with a very low mix of reverb and "shimmer." This is a work in progress for a forthcoming piece. I hope you like it so far! Using an Alvarez ABT60 acoustic baritone guitar, along with a Strymon BigSky reverb pedal, set to the "Cloud" setting. Recorded straight into the DAW with a Fishman magnetic humbucker.

A super quick demo of the Strymon BigSky reverb pedal. The synthesis engine in this pedal is very powerful. I've learned this from recent videos like this one: even an imperfect synth (or any other audio source) sounds amazing through a high quality reverb. Going to install the Valhalla Super Massive VST today. It appears to be FREE!

I lent mine out 15 years ago, got it back the day before yesterday. Unfortunately, it no longer works .... no power ... my 16-year-old self is now deeply saddened!

i absolutely love this synth for medieval /gothic / Tolkien tones. Easy and fun to learn synthesis. Add a vintage processor like the MPX 100 and fire up the lava lamps. run the sequencer and sweep through the cutoff filter. perfect for long journeys as a music bed.

Thank you! This was so long ago, but I just used the Piano Recital preset in the PC3x and the Swell setting on the Big Sky, set to a high decay with a low mix to create that long tail in the sound. You can also achieve this with most free DAW reverb plugins with some experimentation. This was all recorded directly into Garageband

A poly800 is not a good instrument to mimick pianos.
And stilll no velocity
Not at the time it came out, no. But you can modify it nowadays so it listens to external velocity via MIDI. Be aware: at the time it came out, ŵe could only dream of velocity sensitive synths. They were way too expensive.
Way off key
this keyboard was a dream of mine as a kid, never got it though, I found one at a flea market and bought it but when I got home to test it it didn't work, crushed dreams, so I took it back and got my $60 bucks back.
Did you change the CMOS battery on board? I bought one and it powered on but didn't make any sounds, I replaced the battery on the board, used a video on youtube with an aux cable and reloaded factory sounds and it worked perfect.
My Dad bought mine on Christmas eve 1983 It still works perfect only changed the memory battery 1 time..
i need a KORG 9V AC adapter rated at 300 mA ? need help......
I'm pretty sure it has to be a Korg adapter. Mine didn't come with one but the adapter off my MS2000 works with the Poly 800 just fine.
It does not need to be Korg specific: every adapter with the same voltage on the pins having at least 300mA will do.

"Stranger Things" made me dig mine out the closet. Just a new power cord and I was good to go. I used patch 42 a lot. One of my songs in the studio with my band used it. There's. A "Jump" sound on it too. At least close anyway
Do yourselve a favor and replace the internal memory bank battery..... Everything might work fine but in reality the leaking battery destroys the PCB inside the Korg and some day you will find it not working without any chance to fix it.

the solution is Strymon BigSky Reverb, maybe my farst with Strymon BigSky Reverb sounds interesting

Analogue Additive Synthesis. Digitally Controlled Oscillators.
Its a DCO yes right not VCO, its Digital controlled not voltage controlled, but the Oscillator that makes the waveform is Analog.
The Jupiter 8 had DCOs, is that not an analog synth?????? synth snobs do my head in.... go back to your Moog modular....... LOL......
The sound generation and the sound path is 100% analog.
